View Full Version : Personalized Collection Lists... Last Steps!

Isn't fun to be part of a work in progress?

I'd like to direct your attention to your personal collection lists, now available via your forum profile. Go ahead, take a look at your own profile (not the edit page - the one that you see when you click the profile button on any of your posts). Added now are the links for your collection, your trade list, and your want list. When you click the associated checkboxes from the online guide, this is where they go.

Feel free to play with it, but as I stated in the "coming soon" post...
http://www.digitpress.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=554479

... don't start adding your stuff seriously unless you're prepared to do it all over again in a few days. The database still has to be re-indexed, meaning that the games you're selecting now will not match the games when they're given their permanent new numbers in the new database structure.

There are also a number of formatting changes that will take place, but essentially the "engine" is in place, tested, and fully functional.

As promised before, I'll post here when it's "all systems go"! And *yes* there will be other features added in the near future, including a comment area for each game in each list (so you can label its condition or completeness) and more. Stay tuned.

EXTRA THANKS to SpasticFuctard for tirelessly working through the logistics, spending many long days and late nights toiling over the details to make this all happen. If you see him, please thank him. Especially since his work has really only just begin. :)

great, do you want us to test specific things out or just play around a little bit with it ?

can't wait to see it working 100%

It's been tested. The tinkering you do now is for your own benefit.

It is working 100%. This isn't a "beta" you're looking at, it's the final v1.0 release. The only delay is in the database population, which has no effect on the engine.... and all other features will be announced releases going forward.

Enjoy.

I dont see anything in anyones profile.

Sure you do. It's below the contact information.

PS Don't worry - keen eyesight is something you acquire after collecting for awhile. You need to be able to pick a single game out of a stack of VHS tapes and cassettes, or an odd piece of hardware from a box of miscellaneous computer parts and wreckage. Consider this your first lesson. :) Incidentally, the location of the links is one of the formatting changes you'll see over the next few days, it will be much more prevalent in the profiles at that time.

Excellant. Will wait a few days as suggested before putting my collection up. But....wahey! Well done everyone involved

This is fantastic. Thanks DP. :)

Er, is there a possibility of you adding system sections, like IGN, to make the lists a little more clear?

I don't see it either. Is it in all of the forum skins? I don't use the default black and red skin.

EDIT: That's the issue. I switched to the default red/black and the collection links are there. They are not in other skins, the only one I tested being subSilver.

I only modified the subRed skin because I fully expected Joe to take exception to my total shit idea of web design and make good with not crapola links.

Yeah, once I get the formatting the way I like it I can copy that code to the other skin profiles. For now it's subRed only.

Well you see, if I added all my stuff now I'd have to re-do it all again later when the database gets re-indexed - hence the reason why I'm asking everyone to not do their complete lists now (see original post).

I do it for that lowest common denominator - the ones that "just don't get it". Until they include a sarcasm meter on my browser I'm going to assume that some people are stupid. It's OK. I'm quite used to working in an environment like that.

OK.

Anyway here's an update: ALL of the forum skins have been tweaked a bit so the collection links are a bit more apparent. I don't think anyone will have a problem seeing it at this point.

Another update: the database is getting re-indexed tonight - so by this time tomorrow you'll be able to create your lists. All I ask is that you wait for the green flag! I'll post a new thread here when that moment arrives.

What's the whole process with reporting bugs or games that are NOT in the database? I know that the whole thing is not finalized, but I figured that I would add one game to each list in my profile simply to test it.

Starfox Armada did not come up when I searched for it via the Want Page list creator.

What's the ebst way to report stuff like this, send someone a PM or post them in the soon to be created "bugs with the list" thread...?

The best way to report bugs or missing games is in the Guide and Database forum right here. That's the way we've been taking them for the last year or so and the process works very well for the most part.

Starfox Armada did not come up when I searched for it via the Want Page list creator.

When you enter this into the Guide and Database forum, I'd highly recommend including as much info about the game as you can: system, complete title, manufacturer, part #, country of origin, and anything else that seems relevant. It will help us not only get the bare minimum of info into the database but also ensure that we didn't already have it listed as something else!

Hope this helps and thanks for inquiring.

Starfox Armada was the working title of Starfox Assault, that just came out. That could be why It's not in the database. ;)
