Me!

I dunno, do you mean actors, politicians, or singers, artists, etc? Or those who are famous BECAUSE of their collections?

You might want to watch that show "Players" on G4TechTV (or maybe it's back to just G4 since they took away most of TechTV's content).

Then again, maybe not. Usually it's some rapper playing Madden or some other sports game on PS2. The only one I saw with retro games was Hal Sparks (of "Queer as Folk" but probably better known for his commentary on VH1's "I Love the 80's/70's/90's" shows). He had some Atari 2600 games and played them.

I've heard John Mayer obsessively plays Halo...

Yeah, I still don't like him either.

Watching G4, I'll often see them interviewing folks on "The Red Carpet™", asking them about what games they're into etc. Many of them mention being into retrogaming, but something tells me the last time most of them played pac-man was sometime after birth, and before the agent, thousand-dollar shopping sprees, and that cocaine addiction.

Yeah, most of these celebrities say "Pac Man" "Donkey Kong", "Mario", etc because those are the last games they played....back in the early 80's.

Other than that, you just got your typical Madden celebs.

I doubt seriously that any of them are REALLY into retrogaming at all. Ask em who Aero The Acrobat, Sparkster, Mighty The Bee, or Plok is and they wont be able to tell you because they are some of the more obscure classic characters....where as most of us on the boards here would know. :)

If we're talking celebrities and video games in general.....
-I read in a magazine that rapper Rah Digga (flip mode squad) can dominate Resident Evil 2.

-Mariah Carey has a Ms. Pac Man cocktail cabinet in her apartment. I saw it on her episode of MTV Cribs.

-I've seen Jaleel "Steve Urkel" White play Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

I read somewhere a few years back that Curt Schilling (Boston Red Sox pitcher) was really into EverQuest. When he was pitching for Philly and Arizona he would take his laptop on the road for away games so he could play EQ in his hotel room. And about a year and a half ago, he actually wrote a review for PC Gamer that covered one of the EQ expansion pack (some "Planes of...something expansion pack) Pretty cool to think that some people playing EQ were adventuring with a Hall of Fame pitcher and didn't even know it!

Most of the celebs I see on tv are only into the newest systems, or the ones they are getting paid to endorse. You always see the guys on MTV's cribs with the XBox, GameCube or PS2 hooked up to the massive entertainment centers. However I did see the crib of two of the members of Maroon 5 and they had a NES hooked up to a set in there living room. They didn't mention it, but it was in the background.

Holy crap. I'm not famous, but I post here pretty regularly, and I have no friggin idea about any of those guys. Must be from my giant NES blind spot. (As you well know, NES is too recent to be "classic" :P )

Gaming reverence is not a nescessary requirement nor detracting factor to the major MILF-vibe that woman emits.

In other words, it wouldn't anger me even if I still watched MTV for more than 5 seconds, and somehow managed to catch a glimpse of the segment in question.

I was just watching MTV Cribs, and Omarion (from B2K) was on. I'm not sure if he collects classic games, but he was wearing an Excitebike t-shirt (one of the ones you can buy at Hot Topic). I thought it was kinda cool in a nerdy way. LOL

In passing, it seems far more feasible to me that a band or musical artist is much more likely to actually play games regularly than say, an actor or typical celebrity(see "Hilton & co. holding sealed PS2 games and controller for Gamepro photo-op"), as I'm sure they probably spend lots of time on a tour bus with nothing else to do.

According to surveys done by ESPN and other sources, up to 70 percent of proffesional athletes play video games when on the road with their teams. (Football, baseball, etc.) The coaches actually aprove of this since it keeps the players in a few locations and they can be easily monitroed, plus they are not out making trouble or anything. :)

I know Tom Brady said he used to play NCAA Football with his roomamtes all the time when he was at Michigan. :)

Also -- Dale Earnheart Jr plays online with NASCAR all the time. He even has the wheel set. Can you imagine playing aganist him in a online game? Of course no one knows he's there -- it's rather cool. :D

I've read many times that Leo Dicaprio is a huge Gamer. I remember I was so Jealoud of Fres Savage when I read his interview in Nintendo Power way back when The Wizard first came out - he said that he got to take home a copy of SMB3 and play it, this was way before the movie came out and even earlier than the game came out at retail.

Violet Berlin. Even featured in a game. (Micro Machines 2 & 96)

But they are or were game program celebs, so I don't think they really count

I wouldn't call any of them "famous" but what they've made is pretty well known. The animation studio at MGM Disney (Mulan, Home on the Range) has an Atari VCS that the animators occasionally hook up and play. Don't know if it counts for our purpose here, but I just felt like saying something. :)

Sometime back Rolling Stone Magazine did an article on celebs and gaming. I remember Jack Black mentioning a huge affinity for older games. I think he mentioned the 2600 and also that he was a huge buff for arcade Scramble.

Along these same lines, gaming is also apparently widespread among professional wrestlers. From what I've read, wrestlers also tend to lean towards modern consoles and sports games (wrestling, too). WWE management, however, tends to be a little disdainful when wrestlers are playing PS2 in the locker room between matches when they could be "studying" the other workers out on the mat.

Booker T is apparently one of the biggest gamers in WWE and even owns his own game store in Houston called "Jam Zone". Anyone ever been there?

Pro wrestler AJ Styles from NWA is a HUGE video gamer. He's said many times that when he retires from wrestling, he wants to try and get into the game business somewhere.

Damn straight....I wonder how much money he gets just for royalty fees for each DVD sold...or each time they played it on that Disney TV where they play cartoons 24/7.

Plus each time he says the word "Sonic" or "Tails" during the show, you know Sega paid him a nice chunk of change back in the day

Raymond Herrerra (Fear Factory's drummer) is a pretty big gamer. I've emailed him a couple times about games, and besides being into the newer stuff, he does play some of the older games as well. Hell, he even knew Splatterhouse. Check this out: Fear Factory Gaming (http://www.ffx4.com).

On a similar note, a guy I used to know met Raymond after a FF show in the mid-'90s and played Samurai Shodown with him for an hour or so.
