View Full Version : Anybody playing TG-16 on Their Gameboy Advance?

I have some questions for somebody that has or is playing TG-16 games on their GBA.

1. What games, if any, run perfectly in terms of sound and everything?

2. What games aren't worth trying to play, because they don't work right?

3. Which version of the PC engine emulator is the best?

Thanks for any help.

Wow, this is news to me I didn't think the GBA could emulate anything past NES. Anyone know if Genesis emulation is possible? That would be the next step after TG-16 I'm assuming.

Unfortunately, there is no working Genesis emulator for the GBA.

There is one for the Sega Master System, and a really, really good one for the NES, and a decent one for the TG-16

among some other systems.

There is a SNES one, but only like one or two games really work decently.

Use a GP32 for Genesis as the speed uis about 95% there...

Hmm, it's been awhile since I tried emulation on a GBA. The NES and Gameboy emulators runs great, as does the SMS emulator for the most part. But, from as far as I can recall, nothing really ran great on the TG16 emulator. Everything was slow. Give it some time...

Yea TG-16 on the GBA is slow and the sound is not good.

Also the compatiability is a little low.

Pass on it for now.

I always have some NES games and good old GB Mono games on my flash card - SNES games work, but they are slow and sound is NOT supported.

Whats the deal with Gameboy Color though? Have they gotten that one under the belt yet?? And I mean the games that ONLY work on GB Color - like Deju Vu II - I must play it, but I dont want to play it on my computer, much rather the GB player or the DS.

ps - sorry - I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I wouldn't feel right about starting a slew of threads about GBA emulation, plus a link to an info site about GBC emu, if it exists, is all I'm really looking for...

The deal is that Game Boy Color used up a lot more juice that the original Game Boy, something like 9mhz if memory serves. And while the GBA processor is obviously a lot more powerful than that, it's simply not powerful enough to entirely emulate a GBC. Basically, it's never going to happen. Sorry.

If I understand correctly you're asking if Game Boy Advance can emulate Game Boy Color. Does this seem a little weird to anyone but me? You just put the Game Boy Color game IN the Game Boy Advance - why mess with an emulator for it?

If I want to play TG16 games on a portable, I just use my TurboExpress. ;)

While the turboExpress is cool, it's FAR less portable than the SP.

Anthony1, forget about it. Look at the Xbox. It's port of Hugo falls short for pc-engine/TG16 emulation (and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise..they're just ignorant ;)). So what makes you think the GBA ports can handle it? Yep.. it can't really. Go try it out and see for yourself. The only decent TG16/PCE emulation is Magic Engine, and I don't see that going open source any time soon.

Not at all. The advantage is you can have say... dozens of GB/GBC games available via a nice menu.. instantly playable and interchangeable, and with save state support. Basically all the same comforts and advantages of emulators that is spoken about... and since it's on the GBA, it 'feels' like it's in it's native format which is nice.

Unfortunately in this case, all the disadvantages of emus come out too. Many GB/GBC games play nice... but slow. Some games fare better than others. i.e. Play Super Mario Land on the GB/GBC emulator on the GBA and it's only somewhat noticeable. Play Donkey Kong 94, and it's molasses. There are occasionally some sound issues as well.

I use GBC/GB emulation on the GBA for a small image I made that has every version of Tetris (tetris flash, DX, original, Plus, etc.) and the jap GB version of Nectaris. As long as you know it's realistic limitations.. it's a fun little plaything. And it DOES get better with new releases at least up to this point in time.

But yes, a real gbc/gb cart plugged into the GBA beats it every time. Just... no save states ;)

Exactly. There are a handful of decent GBC games that I would like to play on my DS - if GBC (exclusive GBC games) were possible on the GBA flash ceart, then I'd be able to play it on the DS. And like stated above with all of those benefits. Honestly, it's all about Deja Vu II.

So it's not possible, eh, that's unfortunate and surprising as well. I learned to swallow that SNES emu will never really happen on GBA hardware so I can accept this too. Dang you Ace Harding, you'll just have to wait.

And there's no way that I will travel with my Turbo Express anymore, even with the TV tuner, it's not worth bringing that thing around. It's not like it's relaly bling anymore (unless your sitting next to a collector on a plane), it's way to heavy, bulky etc - and Far too valuable to me to mess up in a travel debacle!
