I do and I have a question. While I was playing The Legend of Kyrandia 2: The Hand of Fate, I experienced a slight lag in the beginning of the game as well as when Zanthia is talking to the little guy, Faun, before going in her hut, but when I play the game...it runs perfectly. Is the game really like that or is it my pc? I post the same question on the "official" forum of VDMSound (I think) and nobody has replied yet. Thankz for those that reply.

i'm not sure if it's supposed that way, but my question is why don't you just use DosBox instead of VDMSound, sounds like the better solution to me...

well, if DosBox ain't an option for you you should ask on this forum, excellent for Dosbox, vdmsound and so on questions

Well the reason why I use VDMSound is because I don't know how to run Hand of Fate on Dosbox. I followed the directions but then it says "CD is required"...something simialr to that. :/

Edit: I got it working...nvm. But is there anyway to fix it using VDMSound?

Well it seems that DosBox is WAYYY better than VDMSound. No lag what so ever in that beginning scene of Legend of Kyrandia 2. The only thing that's happening is that I hear a little hopping sound in the beginning. :/

of course it is, VDMSound is just a virtual sound driver or something like that, DosBox is an dos emulator :)

to set up a cd drive you have to mount it like this, preferably in the dosbox.conf file at the end after [autoexec]

!this is my complete autoexec, the interesting line is marked >>!

mount c e:\games
c:
keyb gr
>>mount d n:\ -t cdrom
>>mount e o:\ -t cdrom

the first line mounts my e:\games directory as drive c:\ which means if you go to drive c: in dosbox it is infact my e:\games dir...

same goes for the cd/dvd drives, first cd drive n:\ becomes drive d, 2nd one o:\ becomes e

Alright...I got that down. The only problem I have now is that I hear a little pause in sound...probably for a millisecond. Is there anyway to fix that?

It might be a problem with the CD drive spinning up. If you're feeling adventurous, try ripping the CD to an ISO image, and then play the game from the image (after mounting it with Daemon Tools or something similar).

Thankz for the tip, Jorpho. Well it seems there's a millisec lag on sound and vid with whichever game I run off a CD with DOSBox. I think occurs when the game loads. I tried playing Day of The Tentacle with VDMSound and I get no music and which DOSBox..there's that loading lag.

EDIT: Well here's the solution my brother came up with regarding to DOSBox. I basically copied all the files that was on the CD and paste it on the harddrive. By doing that, I don't get any loading lag. As for The Hand of Fate, I installed the game onto my D drive and copied and pasted everything that was on the CD onto my C drive. This way...DOSBox will think my C drive in my CD-Rom drive and loads everything from there. And since it's not reading it from a CD, I don't get any loading lag. Now I don't get any lag while playing Day of the Tentacle and while playing The Legend of Kyrandia: The Hand of Fate. 8-)

playing Day of the Tentacle

seriously, don't ever use DosBox for a Lucas Arts Adventure, go with ScummVM instead....

Hell Yeah! ScummVM is the future of the past! (If that makes sense!)
If you havent tried Scumm yet, i suggest you go amaze yourself @ http://www.scummvm.org/

it's wrong because ScummVM was soley made for this purpose, playing Scumm games, it's perfect for it! no matter how good DosBox gets, it could never compete with ScummVM when it comes to Scumm ;)

Legend of kyrandia isnt suppose run like that, its one of my fav series, most the dos emulators out there are good, dosbox isnt bad but it does lag quite a few games, honestly i just put together an old pentium 2 system with 64 meg of ram and now i have a pretty decent collection of older games, dont have to worry about them not working, or lag

EnemyZero, I'm about to hook my very old computer back up to do the same very thing, play old PC games on it. But to be honest, I think DOSBox lags when the game loads. I just beat The Hand of Fate on DOSBox and I didn't experienced any lag (that's because I wasn't play off the CD, technically). Makes me wanna play Legend of Kyrandia 1 and 3 now but I don't have those games... :/

Hydr0x, I have used SCUMMVM in the past, just wanted to know what was wrong with using DOSBox. :P

I just have an old computer that I play classics on. I have both a Win 3.11 machine and a Win 95 . I used to know the guys that programmed dosBOX but the interface sucks. Thats why i built two computers with extra parts I had, 486/66 power whoot!

Once you get all the commands and stuff down, DOSBox is easy to use. Anyways, the only thing I really need to rebuild my old computer is a power supply and a monitor...and maybe a mouse. One question, will old PC games work well with Windows 98 or do I need to install Windows 95? Oh yeah, the only game that works with no problems is Duke Nukem 3D on Windows XP. 8-)

I've heard some people say that Windows 95 supports some old hardware that Windows 98 does not, but aside from that I can think of very little reason to use Windows 95 rather than Windows 98 (or at least Windows 98 with 98lite).
