XBox replacement AC cords? Is this for real?

My brother just emailed me a link to this, but for some reason, I just can't seem to fathom why Microsoft would want to provide us first gen XBox owners with a new power cord.

I feel as if it's just some ploy to steal my XBox's serial number. :hmm:


Does anyone else know about this?

I just did a bit of research, and it does seem to be real.

It's even been in an article at the Chicago Tribune:

Damn. I guess it is time for me to get a replacement cord. *sighs*
