Well, according to my latest piece of Paypal phishing spam it has been...

Also note the Case ID Number....I must have been the FIRST! LOL

I just found this humorous and figured I'd pass it along

Perhaps they use a random number generator and don't check it? LOL

Yes, I got one of these awhile back too; I think the key thing about identifying this as fraudulent (aside from the obvious 35-year-history lie and lack of error-checking), along with other emails like this is that they all provide a link somewhere in the email. Any time a link is displayed in IE, you can roll the mouse cursor over the link and the link's destination will be displayed in the bottom bar. The one thing that's common about all these emails is that THE LINK AND THE DESTINATION DO NOT MATCH. For instance, I got one claiming it was from Ebay, and the link was typed in as a legit link, but the destination was actually www.eebbauyy.da.ru; apparently, this site copied Ebay's hypertext code and used it to make it look like a legit Ebay site, and used it to get your username and password. Moral of story, if it looks suspicious, it is. Don't ever give out your information to anyone, no matter how legit it looks (most legit sites will keep all info confidential store it indefinitely unless you request it).
