Do you think he is buying it to resell for a profit? If so, I had a hard time believing anyone would pay more than what he did for it, so chances are he's gonna lose some money on this one.
Although , that is a beautiful looking copy!!!

This is getting out of hand! Realy crazy to pay that much for one game you will never open. On the other side its realy cool to have, but for that price i'd rather buy 100 used SNES games.

Well, in the past, he's mentioned that he has a friend willing to pay large amounts and that he only spends that kind of money when it's really for the friend. He seems more careful with his own money, but who knows for sure.

Well, my suspicion would be that it is a good way for him to avoid having all those pointless arguments with people who go ape every time they see someone pay that much for a sealed game.
Just throw yourt hands up and say "It's for a friend ... I couldn't possibly comment!".
Or, of course, perhaps it's true. But it just smacks of the old favourite "A friend of mine <once got arrested for> <did some really stupid thing>" etc etc - insert whatever thing it is that you don't want to admit to.

aint nescescerily "I can never spell that word" so..
Ive seen that the majority of rare games have fallen in price due to the internet over the past couple of years, people have seen games sell for $200 and so they thought "I have that somewhere", dig it out and suddenly its shown to be not as rare as people thought.
There are obvious exceptions, but as more and more people browse ebay, more and more "thought to be rare" stuff surfaces.
Jopac games are a prime example of this, they were a minimum of $100 a peice 2 years ago.. I just got three for $60
Hand helds & Game n Watches, $60 for your standards 2 years ago, $20 now, etc
Heroquest board games used to go £20-£30, now average price is £10..
so unless its unique or a production run of sub 1000, I think at best there is only going to be a value rise equal to inflation.. if not a loss

I think that his "friend" must be Andre Henretta. This figures into my "Henretta Conspiracy Pyramid" theory where he is at the center of all shady ebay activities involving enormous amounts of money.
In other news, 2 copies of Magical Chase have come and gone on ebay, he bid on one, didn't win it, passed on the other. He's paid tons more in the past than either recent copy went for. Wierd...

I remember when I started collecting, collectors debated wether or not NES were "classic" or not and wether or not they should be allowed to be discussed with the rest of the "classic collectables". SNES was still being produced and sold and many collectors at that time expressed the belief that these would NEVER be collectable or worth anything.
I boughtout a stack of new Earthworlds (10 or so) at my local Walmart for $5 each and the only responce I got was ....Why?

02-23-2005, 11:50 PM
I remember about 5 or 10 years ago when everyone I ever asked about it told me that video games would never be collectable, and certainly not any 16BIT ones. My only regret is that I foolishly assumed that I would always be able to get games like Chrono Trigger and Radiant Silvergun factory sealed for about the same price that they originally sold for factory sealed. What a huge mistake that was! But at least I was wise enough to focus mainly on all the obscurities and save the biggest of the undisputable legends for later. It may be making me pay alot more for those games, if I can ever afford to get them now, but it's still far easier to find a factory sealed Chrono Trigger or a factory sealed Radiant Silvergun for about $500 now than it is to track down even a used copy of all the obscurities that I have, much less a sealed copy. And I'm really only missing Chrono Trigger and Radiant Silvergun now anyway.
So, just as soon as I can save up $500 for it, I'm going for Radiant Silvergun. Then the only other grail that I'll have left to save for will be Chrono Trigger. Sure, there are still many other sealed SNES games on my wishlist, and I may never be able to find some of them still factory sealed anymore, but I know that they're out there somewhere, and probably not for too bad of a price, in most cases. It's only a matter of time. Some that I've gotten recently took me 10 years to find factory sealed, but I did find them eventually, and still for about what they sold for factory sealed originally. The only exceptions are all the Chrono Triggers and Radiant Silverguns of the world. But I missed very few of those, so it all evens out in the end. Most of you know that I just paid $300 for a factory sealed Hyper Duel. That's the first time that I've ever paid anywhere near that much for a single game, but it was worth it. Now I have one less game on my wishlist to worry about, one more rarity in my collection, and I'm one step closer to saving up for Radiant Silvergun too.
I know that alot of people don't understand it, and people like Adol who can afford to spend that kind of money on a single game all the time as though it was nothing make me sick too. It took me 3 solid months of selling off alot of stuff that I didn't really want to have to part with to be able to get my Hyper Duel, but in the end it was all worth it to me, and I really don't mind the fact that I had to make alot of sacrifices to be able to get it at all. That just makes it worth that much more to me, and it makes me appreciate the value of it that much more. But for all we know, Adol and his ilk could have very similar reasons for obtaining the grails that they pursue at the prices that they're willing to pay for them, so who are we to question what their motives are or why they're willing to spend that much money on one game? How do we know what fills their wallet, or possesses them to possess them?
Now the Andre Henrettas of the world have got to go for sure, and Adol is not much better either, but I don't believe that he's hoarding every single Magical Chase that he can get his greedy paws on. So whatever his reason was for spending that much on that game, I'm sure that it probably meant just as much to him as my Hyper Duel did to me. I just had to have it, and I was willing to do whatever it took to get it. That's why I have it now, and I certainly won't be selling it on ebay, trying to make a profit on it either! It will always be in my collection, and will only be sold when everything else in my collection is sold, if any of it is ever sold at all. That's why the fact that it cost me $300 to get it makes very little difference to me at all. I bought it because I wanted it, and my rules are that I will only buy factory sealed. It doesn't matter to me if I'm gonna open it and play it or not, those are still my rules, and I refuse to break them. That's why there's still alot of games that I still want that I still don't have yet. But I will get them all, someday.

Dude, if you are paying hundreds of dollars for a factory sealed game and then opening it, that is seriously the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. I'm not trying to insult you, but think about it for a few minutes and you should realize how insane it is.

Why is it insane to want a guaranteed 100% mint complete copy of a game? I would rather pay whatever it costs to get a factory sealed game and open it up than to pay 100's of dollars for a used copy that's 100% guaranteed to have some scratches on it. I don't care how mint they say it is, or how much they insist that there isn't a scratch on it, used games will always be flawed in some way. So IMHO, what I am paying for is 100% guaranteed factory fresh quality. That's the only reason why factory sealed games cost so much, because they come with that guarantee. Anyone who believes otherwise is only kidding themselves. Most people who collect factory sealed games will never open them or play them, but there will always be some people who will open them and play them. That's why eventually you can never find a factory sealed copy of a particular game anymore. Because eventually those who never open them or play them will sell them, and those who will open them and play them will pay whatever it takes to buy them, so they can open them and play them. And that applies to anything factory sealed. At some point it will always be sold to someone who will open it and enjoy it. People who buy things like that just to let them gather dust buy them only to make a profit from them someday. Because there's nothing else that they can do with them besides watch them gather dust. At some point, they will always either tire of that or die. They will either realize how stupid it is, and they will sell it, or their heirs will. And eventually someone like me who can afford it will come along, and pay whatever the price is to be the lucky one to open it, whatever it is. That's just the way that the world works. It's a universal law. If it was ever factory sealed, eventually it will be opened up. So think of factory sealed as a time capsule. Because that's really all that it is.

I have to admit, I do love the feeling of opening up a factory sealed SNES game and being the first person to play it! I started out collecting sealed SNES games, but I soon realized that I would never have much of a collection if I only bought sealed games, because they cost WAY to much!
I know how you feel about the condition of your games must be perfect, because I am really really bad when it comes to Licensed NES games. If I can find any flaw on them anywhere, I won't put them in my collection. I still think however that you should start collecting MINT complete SNES games. Someday you're going to look at what you did and really wish you would have, because you could have had so many more great games for a much smaller price. This isn't a flame, but right now all you're doing is wasting tons of money on plastic and then ruining it.

Well fortunately, I already have most of the SNES games that I want, so it's not really a big deal. I may have to do that for Chrono Trigger though, as much as I hate to. But the thing is, especially with my SNES collection, every game that I own I bought factory sealed. So I just can't bring myself to buy any used SNES games. As I have said before, I COMPLETELY 100% agree with you. I know I would have like 5 times the collection I have if I wasn't so damn picky with the condition of my games. But I don't care. I spend the $$ to make sure and get a GUARANTEED MINT game. Now I might not spend as much as you Iron Draggon, but would if I had the money, but still don't care about buying a game for $50 or $70 or whatever, and it's brand new, then opening it. Well you got freakin lucky then!!!!!!!! Those prices were like that around '98 or so, around when ebay first started. They haven't been that though in the last couple years.
I know there is once in a while I still can luck out on a good deal on a sealed game. That rarely happens though. It's been slowly declining since about 2 years ago on that luckiness!

I hear you, but to be honest I don't think I've ever seen DKC2 over 50 or 60 bucks before.. so the price still strikes me as pretty crazy by any definition. But then I don't watch sealed snes as closely as I do sealed nes, so I guess it's possible I've missed some sales.
