Wow. Bonk's Adventure for the TurboGraphx-16 is pretty freaking amazing. Originally when I had a TG-16, back in 1989 and 1990, I had Bonk's Adventure, but I didn't play it all that much. I mostly played Final Lap Twin and World Class Baseball and TV Sports Football and Dungeon Explorer with my roommates. Didn't play the one player games too much. So even though I had games like Splatterhouse and Legendary Axe and Bonk's Adventure, I didn't really get a chance to play them that much.

Well, anyways, not to bore you to death, but recently I've been giving some quality time to Bonk's Adventure and let me tell you it's freaking a totally awesome game.

Man, the Graphics and Sounds are totally amazing, but the feel of the control and the play mechanics and design of the levels is also wonderfull. This game is a true gem.

Right now I'm trying to think of what other games came out in 1990. This game is incredibly underrated, I can tell you that much. It absolutely has to rank as one of the 5 best games of 1990. Most Impressive.

It's like Sonic the Hedgehog, it's a great game but the sequel blows it out of the water in every way.

God I love Bonk's Revenge.

Bonk's Revenge was cool, but they totally ruined the spin attack for me. It was much tighter in the original.

I'm dead... I've only played the TG16 Bonk games by way of Emulation :embarrassed:

But I do have Super Bonk on SNES, fun game! (What is Super Bonk based on?)

Yes, Bonk is indeed the shiznit, quite indubitably. Personally, I like Bonk's Adventure a bit more than revenge...for no real reason, either. Oh and if you can, check out the japanese GCN remake of Bonk's adventure. It's awesome!

It's more or less Bonk part 4, and is insane. Super Bonk II in Japan is even crazier, some mixture of insanity and crack smokery.

Here are some games released in 1990(domestically, although some were earlier in Japan) that impressed me:

Super Mario Bros. 3(NES)
Strider(Gen)
Raiden(Arcade)
Golden Axe(Gen) - It says 1989 on it but I know I didn't see it in stores until 1990.
GunNac(NES)
AB Cop(Arcade)
Devil's Crush(TG16)
MUSHA(Gen)
Chew Man Fu(TG16)
Thunder Force III(Gen)
Alien Storm(Arcade)
Neutopia(TG16)
The Immortal(Amiga)
Ninja Gaiden II(NES)
Castle of Illusion(Gen)
Ninja Spirit(TG16)
Moonwalker(Arcade/Gen)
Secret of Monkey Island
Legendary Axe 2(TG16)
Ys Book I & II(TGCD)
Alex Kidd in Shinobi World(SMS)
Liquid Kids(Arcade)
Megaman 3(NES)
Turrican(Amiga)
Magician Lord(NG)
Kabuki Quantum Fighter(NES)

Bonk's Adventure was indeed one of the best that year, maybe the best. It's a shame none of the sequels were quite as good because of the spin dash thing Melf mentioned. The TG16 sequels I liked but Bonk kind of sucked on SNES. The Kaneko arcade game wasn't bad.

Bonk's Revenge makes Adventure look pale in comparison. I've played 3 on rom but would extremely love to own it some day which I plan to accomplish. It was weird with all the candy making you change all different sizes but a lot of fun.

Bonks a pretty fun charictor.

I've have and played Adventure Revenge and Super Bonk. I like Super Bonk the best becouse of its wacky candy. I like destroying things with giant bonk.

Bonk is classic gaming in it's truest form. Pop it in and have fun immediately. Although, not as well known as his two rivals he definitely is on the same level. Adventure and Revenge are both great games, and if you get the chance playing them on the turbo is the best way to do it, also like Crawfish said try out the Gamecube remake. If you like adventure you'll love the remake it's got all of the great platforming vibrant colors and quirky worlds in a totally new style.

and just to reiterate what almost everyone else has said I'd like to own bonk 3 too.

If Super Mario Bros. 3 came out in 1990, then that has to be game of the year hands down.

But there isn't any question that Bonk's Adventure would win the award if it wasn't for Super Mario Bros. 3.

Hudson Soft "loosened" it in Revenge on purpose so you couldn't cheat and "fly" across the whole board. With the spin on the first game coupled with the built in trubo controlller you could get through most of the boards without even playing them if you wanted to.

Also, I believe it was named game of the year by EGM. Beating out SMB 3 and alike :D

It must have been some other mag. Genesis Strider got GOTY from EGM in 1990.

I heard there's a GC and PS2 version of Bonk, but I haven't had much luck finding it anywhere...can anyone point me in the right direction?

Try Japan. :D They were only released over there. I think NCS (www.ncsx.com) has them in stock still.

Oh! Ok...I thought there was a US release for some reason...

Upon searching, ncsx and play-asia have these two ps2 versions:

Anyone know the difference?

Hudson Selection Vol. 3: PC Genjin (Hudson the Best) US$ 20.90

Hudson Selection Vol. 3: PC Genjin US$ 25.90

I beleive the "Hudson the best" version is nothing more than the JP version of a "Greatest hit" so they're the same game.
