I just saw that this game is going to be released for $19.99. My question is what's the point? They can't release another MLB game again next year due to the MLB license being purchased by another company so there's no sense trying to build fan loyalty to the title. Why not just release it as a full priced game and make what money they can while they still can?

Actually Take 2, who is releasing Major League Baseball 2K5 is the company who bought the rights for baseball, so releasing this game at $20 is a good move to draw in baseball fans to their game. This also makes EA Sports bring out MVP at $30, like all their other sports games are now.

MLB 2006 is released by Sony, who like Nintendo & Microsoft are 1st party companies. They exclusive is only for 3rd party companies, and starting next year, preventscompanies such as EA Sports, Midway, & Midway from bringing out their respective titles. Sony will continue to release the MLB series as long as they want to, Microsoft has the rights to the High Heat series if they bring back sports, and Nintendo has announced MLB Pennant Chase for the Cube.

Thanks to the great sports pissing wars of 2004-05, we've lost Segas ESPN games, including the amazing ESPN NFL 2K series, MVP Baseball, MLB Slugfest & NFL Blitz as we know it.

So long story short, at $20 they are making money, and will continue to seeing that they will be the only 3rd party baseball game for the next few years.
