View Full Version : What video game world would you live in?
cr0n0
02-20-2005, 01:34 AM
Maybe this has been done before (probably has)...but, if you had a chance to experience a video game world first hand, like live in it or just visit, which would you pick?
I would go with the Mario universe, just so I can visit Island Delfino. That place looks like total paradise. Racing in the Mario KArt tracks wouldn't hurt either.
On the other hand, my wife would like to live in Animal Crossing just because it's cool to live next to animals (that don't attack you) and not have to clean up after them. Also, moving around furniture would be easy, just pack a leaf.
My son would like to fly missions next to fox McCloud.
Guess to each his/her own.
Space Chanel 5, I lke the style of a future 50's world. Oh and becouse the aliens have space Michael, they can keep him. LOL

The Star Ocean universe, around Star Ocean 2.

I wouldn't want to be around in the third one where the Earth gets decimated by the Exicutioners.

After playing Curse of Monkey Island for several hours, I have to say that the Monkey Island world would be pretty fun.

Nirn, or more specifically, Tamriel, the setting for the Elder Scrolls games.
The lore of that world is so extensive, so complete, that I feel like I've already been there on several occasions.

There are several possibilities here. Unfortunately, most of my favorite game series are REALLY REALLY dark. I mean...who would CHOOSE to live in the worlds of Aliens Vs. Predator, Silent Hill, or X-Com? :D
I'd say probably one of these four universes:
Snatcher
Phantasy Star
The Shining 'verse (Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, etc)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Nesmaster

make me invincible, and i'll choose either 1 of the 3 gta cities
if inviciblility is out of the question, take me to super mario 64. jumping in and out of paintings would be fun LOL
runnerup: anywhere peaceful ie. any game with a nice relaxing looking island....

For regular squidblatt, the worlds of:
Windwaker
Harvest Moon
Mario
If I were super-squidblatt, the worlds of:
Forgotten Realms
Skies of Arcadia
Any horror game. I wouldn't look for ghosts - just sit around and look at the scenery. Guess I'm a closet goth or something.
Oh, and Elder Scrolls

My shallow side says wherever I would be able to meet and make virtual love to Iori Yagami, because HOT DAYUM that boy is a fine piece of ass!
*cough*
Besides that! Traverse Town from Kingdom Hearts minus the Heartless would be okay, Hyrule, any Sonic world would be awesome because they're just the bestest. Maybe Terra from Final Fantasy 9.

What can i say i'm a 20 year old male so i immeditaley think the world of DOA: Xtreme Beach Volley Ball. Nothing like just kicking back on the beach with a drink while watching some ridiculously well endowed women play Volleyball in skimpy bikini's. Ah Paradise.
And if i ever got kicked out of that world i'd probably go with the world of Contra. Sure it'd be a tough life and i'd probably die faster then a para-trooper in Nam, but hey, at least i could take a lot of people with me.

I'd be in "The Misadventures of Tron Bonne" or "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night"
Or maybe:
Mega Man Legends
Mega Man Battle Network
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 7
Star Fox 64
Yoshi's Story
Chrono Trigger
Earthbound
SlicktheZombie

Definitely Hyrule or Termina (with no moon).

Well, an obvious one for me would be Sonic's world. I mean, come on, that would be amazing.
Don't deny it!
Anyways, some other worlds that would be fairly interesting..
Earthbound's
Hyrule
Star Fox's
Ring of Red's (Come on, mechs in 1964? Kickass.)

damn awsome question....I would choose between:
Ico-
The castle is just awsome.
Jak and Daxter-
One of my favorite worlds in a game, then I wouldent have to worry about load times walking out of my house :)
Beyond good and evil-
Another awsome world
FFXI-
I love the environments
FFIX-
This would be the world I would pick if I had to, I love midevil
Kingdom hearts-
So I could hang w/ my fav disney characters
Morrowind-
One of my fav games on xbox just becuase of the environments
Cirrus
02-20-2005, 04:39 PM
Yeah, Morrowind is beautiful. Just so well done.
I also have to agree with Ico. As long as I can live in a village that doesn't put its children in tombs on an island. Maybe the next town over.
If I'm in a fighting mood, I'd like to go to River City (of River City Ransom). Lots of cool stores, and everyone you kill disappears and leaves money.
But most of all, I'd like to be in the Mega Man universe (not X...). What a great place.

Ok. Since you're obviously still miffed about it, lets examine why his posts got replies, and your one post didn't.
First of all, the thread title.
cr0n0's is called "What video game world would you live in/avoid?". Yours is called "Total Immersion Gaming".
Whereas his are clearly labeled as to what they pertain to, yours is some vague, abstract name that could just as well be about any number of different things.
It might not make a difference if you're writing an article for some online gaming magazine, but when you're trying to get noticed amongst a hundred different threads, it matters.
Secondly, the post itself.
Again, cr0n0's are short and to the point, whereas yours launches into a varitable essay, first congratulating yourself for thinking up such a great idea, then going into several large paragraphs detailing all the many different worlds and places or "gaming environments" you'd like to live in, that's assuming the reader has already deciphered the actual meaning of the thread by reading through the first paragraph.
You're right, basically the same premise as cr0n0's, only he accomplishes in a few sentences what takes you close to a full page of text.
And again, while yours might be better from the standpoint of reading it as an article in a magazine with it's completeness, cr0n0's posts are more discussion-provoking(kind of important in a forum), specifically because of their terseness.
Most of us don't visit forums to read essays. We visit forums so we can participate in discussion, contributing many smaller, incomplete ideas and opinions, which then hopefully form a larger collective of ideas and opinions that make, as a whole, something worth reading.
Also, it didn't help that you just spouted off at the beginning, rather than politely stating that you had already made a similar thread, and providing a link to it. In fact, I'd even guess that the mods would've backed you up and suggested to move the discussion over there.

brittania, specifically the way the world was set up in Ultima Online.
Oh man, that'd be an awesome one too. Given the fact that I owned several houses in Brittania (on the Catskills shard, primarily in the woods east of Britian) and played for 4.5 years, that's probably the closest I've ever come to actually living in a video game world. LOL

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker- Its just so perty. Heck, any Zelda game for that matter, Environments are *errrr...* Lovely!
Oddworld, its just so... Odd.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time / Warrior Withing- Awesome environments, Though I'd have to be the Prince himself If my fatass were to get arround. And I'll skip on the Sand Demons and Dahaka Crap thank you!
i'm going with the DOA extreme beach volleyball world ... I've always been a sucker for the beach.

ANY of the Grand Theft Auto games.
But then, I do live in the real life equivalent of Bayside (Sausalito), just north of San Fiero (San Francisco) in San Andreas, so in a way art does imitate life.
If only I could get away with the same shit in those games...

I'd say the world from SMB 1 or 3 would be cool: running around and eating magic mushrooms the whole day sounds like fun... 8-)
Hyrule would also be a nice place to live in. For more action I'd like to be a fighter in the Baldur's Gate (Forgotten Realms) environment.
This makes me laugh.....because back when my friend and I first saw 3D, courtesy of our brand new N64 systems, we used to say to each other "wouldn't it be cool if you could live in the gameworld?"
Let's see....what would mine be?
As far as the N64 is concerned, it was always Hyrule or Diddy Kong Racing's world. I also always wanted to be armed to the teeth and running around in Quake.
Fantasy-wise, I'd love to run around in the world of the first Jak N Daxter game.
Other than that, give me the world of the Ridge Racer series. Going full drift around those city-scaped tracks in those futuristic import cars would be heaven.

Tough question.
I can't tell the difference between where I live now and the levels in Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars. Driving to work on the PA Turnpike looks exactly like the first level minus the flying chickens.
But seriously.
I could easily transport myself inside Tron 2.0 . I have been wandering around in levels I already beat just to look at the landscape..
Or the Skies Of Arcadia... OOooOooOooo

SILENT HILL
I read all the way to the end, saying "Yes, no one took mine, and then someone did."
Silent Hill all the way - any of them, all of them, it's all the same universe.
Other than that, Wipeout - i'd make a fine racer, or maybe I could be the DJ at the track spinning all those good tunes. Wipeout XL/Wipeout 2097 might be a plus b/c of all the free RedBull you could drink.

Beyond Good and Evil on Hilys. The whole place is like an alien Venice. And everyone drives floating cars. I'd love to actually live in the light house and have an uncle Pey'j with a hovercraft and interstellar space cruiser. Also, the architectural style and lifeforms are beautiful.
Second would be the world above Hyrule in Wind Waker. Sure, it's mostly ocean, but it's pretty cool living on an island knowing there's another one a few miles away in the distance. I wonder how far the map would be if it were real. How many miles would it actually be from your island to the northern most point? Would be cool to figure out. [Wonders if he could send this to Hey! Spring of Trivia and make it their Seed. Would they actually do it...]
Third would be the world in Super Mario RPG. To live among the mushroom people and visit the monsters in that town.. whatever it's called. The one with Culex.

A hentai game.
C'mon, I shouldn't have been the first one to say it, and a good percentage of the people in this thread are liars for saying otherwise.
Perhaps a mesh of a hentai game and Final Fantasy XI. I love the vastness of everything in it. There are some beautiful landscapes and bustling cities.

Game worlds I would want to live in...
Shenmue
Well I mean it's a real place(Yokosuka(sp?) Japan), but it's in the 80's and it's a bit different in the Shenmue world.
Just think about it...
-You can drink a soda in 2 gulps
-When you wake up your hair still looks perfect
-You have a Sega Saturn atleast a decade before it even existed!
-In gang fights nobody ever seems to remember to bring a weapon
-You can fall asleep instantly
-Toy Capsules are actually worth getting
-You work like 5 hours a day, get a 2 hour lunch break AND free lunch...
-Even after wearing a motorcycle helmet your hair is perfect XD
Sounds like fun to me.
Runnerup would be Final Fantasy 8(I mean c'mon, because it's Final Fantasy 8) :)
