Is Capcom vs. SNK 2 : Millionaire fighting 2001 for Dreamcast the best 2D fighter in current history?

no... i would say Garou Mark of the Wolves, KOF 98, or as many people seem to think (i dont agree) street fighter III 3rd strike.

I agree with this as well, but personally, I love 3rd Strike as well :P

KOF 2k3 eats anything that CvS2 has to offer. I really hope SNKP can expand on the formula for this "new trilogy" and they will have on hell of a Tag Team Fighting Game!

Street Fighter 2 Turbo is the greatest fighting game ever made.

CvS2 is a turtle fest-there's no incentive to go on the offensive in that game when it's so easy to just sit in the corner and counter everything.

KOF 2k3 has Duolon, who's leagues better then everyone else in the game. 2k3 is alot of fun, but there's just simply better fighters out there.

KOF 98, 3rd Strike, and MOTW are all great games, to be sure. But SF2 turbo is still the best fighter out there, after all these years, for one simple fact. It's simple enough anyone can pick up and have a blast, and deep enough that people can get really into the strategy and tactics. There's no one character that beats everyone, even Ryu and Sagat, though really good, have their less then stellar matchups.

I love other fighters, like Sam Sho Special, KOF 2k2, Smash Bros Melee, but SF2t is still the GOD as far as I am concerned.

This question is like asking 'what are the best pizza toppings?'. Sure, some are more popular/acknowledged as good than others, but no one truly likes to eat the exact same type of pizza all the time. It all depends on what you're in the mood for.

I would put Capcom vs. SNK 2 up there as one of my favourites. I'm also quite fond of Guilty Gear X, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and King of Fighters 2000.

It is a 2d fighter, and like Sf2 turbo, is simple enough for anyone to pick up, but with enough depth that people will play it competitively.

Believe it or not SSBM tournaments get the highest turnouts of any fighting game, and there's a competitive scene for the game in just about every state. It certainly doesn't play like any other 2d fighter so most people don't think of it as one, but it's impossible to discount it's strength as a fighting game. Nor can one discount just how damn popular it is with your casual player-it's like Halo for Xbox. If you have a cube, chances are you have smash bros.

Don't scoff at the game-it's a great one.

damn straight. me and my roommate are hardcore gamers and hes a fighting game fanatic, and while he think kof is the best, the fighting game of choice is, was, and always will be SSB. we host tournaments by weekly and all our suitemates play it non stop.

theres just no reason to play guilty gear, kof, sf2 or whatever when you got ssb, more people can play, gameplay is simply more fun, lots of characters, and its got the golden rule of a winner: seconds to learn, years to master.

before you use more obscene gestures, i do in fact own just about all the fighting games for DC, along with capcom vs snk 2 for GC and Guilty Gear X2 for xbox (along with a plethora of 3d fighting games). in the end of the day, the choice is SSBM.

Oooooh...brain....asplodes....

Three way tie:

Street Fighter Alpha 3 DC
Best damn combo / juggle balance system ever. World Tour Mode sucks me in every time I play

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
THe ultimate judge in defining the true nature of the inner beast. You haven't lived until you've parried Akuma's Super Combo Air Fireball into a Dragon Punch to win the round. The only game I will play when I want to actually prove something.

Guilty Gear XX: Reloaded
One Word. Five Letters.

Dizzy.

Greatest. Animated. Character. Ever.

But I play Millia. :rocker:

My Favorites:

Street Fighter II Turbo
Street Fighter Alpha II
King Of Fighters 98
King Of Fighters 96
Fatal Fury: Mark of The Wolves
Fatal Fury Real Bout Special
Samurai Showdown II

I play each of those at least once every month.

Super SF2 Turbo is definately one of the best 2D fighters ever, but my vote ultimately goes to Street Fighter Alpha 3 (DC version), which would still be a great game even if it lacked World Tour Mode, Survival mode, and all its other wonderful gameplay variations.

Put me infront of a Garou game in Survival mode and I'm stuck there for hours.

Garou, KoF 97, KoF 2003 (not for competitive play though) are tops from SNK

SSF2T, SFA2 (not 3), and SF3:TS top out the Capcom roster.

I'll give respect to GGXX though, it is Sammy's best output in a game for a LONG time.

Why, other than personal preference, do you rank Street Fighter Alpha 2 above SFA3? SFA3 seems like the better game in every regard (except for endings, perhaps).

Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is probably my fave on the DC and JoJo's Bizzare Adventure comes in second.

This is clearly the best fighting game, 2D or 3D, ever created. Kinda strange how it run best on the Dreamcast though... with better grafics no less..... Take that Sony.

That's because CvS2 is a NAOMI game, and as a result, it's arcade perfect.

It's the same reason why Marvel vs Capcom 2 is arcade perfect, yet 3rd strike, alpha 3, and the neo ports are all pretty off for anyone who played the arcade ones hardcore.
