just a quick question...i thought Ico had a cardboard outer casing on it...i keep passin up copies at EB because i was waiting for a (in my mind) complete copy....can someone tell me quickly if it does have a cardboard casing, at all...any version....if not just call me crazy and we will leave it at that :P

The PAL release came in cardboard packaging with Ltd Ed Art Cards. Im not to sure about the US release though. I thought it came in a normal DVD case.

That's correct. USA Version was standard release with really crappy cover artwork. Euro players got all the love.

us americans only got the dvd case, with some of THE WORST box art EVER! the european and japanese box arts where simply...awsome...but no, no slip cover for us :( buy the game regardless! I buy a copy of the game everytime I see it and hand it out to friends to spread the love for my favorite game ever ... if you havent noticed that yet :P

PDorr, have you considered getting the Japanese or Euro version and swapping out the sleeve for the new box art? I'm definitely considering that.

The euro version costs a pretty penny, but I am considering buying both versions, I simply MUST own those art cards @_@ the japanese version of ico pops up rarely on ebay, I love the box art though, hence my avatar.

Get the European version if you can since it also has a few more puzzles, an extra secret weapon, you can translate Yordas speach as well as getting a slightly different ending on the second playthrough.

oh ok i remember what happened...i was in england and i must have seen the one with the slip cover there...oh well next time is see Ico i will definitly be picking it up...

I am not familiar with UK/PAL ps2 games. Can I play them on my US console? if so I will definitly dish out $80 to play an updated version of Ico :D

I'm pretty sure you would need a modchip of some sort, or at least a flip top/knife trick. Or a PAL PS2, along with a PAL TV.
There are patches for converting CD images (which is what Ico is, a CD) to ntsc from PAL, and they often work... but I'm not too sure how to go about it. So, you would need to buy it, make a copy, and use it on a modded ps2.
Or, get a converter (expensive) from PAL to NTSC signal. You'd still need some way of playing the game.
In other words, damn, they make it difficult.

well theres no way Im going to buy all that equipment....so until theres an easy way to do it I will halfto be happy with my us version. my only question is why do we americans never get the limited edition games?!!?!?

Oh, we do. Europeans get pretty screwed across the board. We should be happy for them. (Although the Japanese really do have all the luck. That's okay, they have an entire country smaller than california with 80 percent mountainous regions. I'll take this. :) )
I'm going to import it anyway, as it looks fantastic. (Just that box, wow).
Well the European version does have a 60hz mode so at least you don't need to worry about the tv (the output for 60hz modes in PS2 games is actually NTSC unlike Xbox, Gamecube and Dreamcast games where it is PAL60).

Nice! So, basically, you can just get a flip top mod (easy) or do the slide-trick, or get a modchip put in. I know of a good place that puts them in the new PSTwos, PDorr... just pm me.
