I received an e-mail yesterday regarding the DIAMOND in the arcade version of Mr. Do!

--Hey, all you Mr.DO! lovers at DP, I discovered a secret to this game (on
the coin-op or MAME)....we all know the biggest thrill is finding that
diamond. Did you know your chances increase in direct proportion to the #
of credits you put in? If you "put in" a quater, chances are less than 10%
that you'll find it. Put in ten credits , though, and you are ALMOST
GURANTEED to find it! I never heard this mentioned b4....

GAME ON!

Interesting. Can anyone confirm?

Through playtesting, that doesn't appear to have any effect on it (max credits is 9). Maybe someone can review the code and confirm whether or not there's some kind of algorithm in place to that effect?

I should know that, but I don't. I will look into it.

Perhaps it varies from Taito to Universal to different bug revision versions is my only guess right off the bat. I will research then get back to you!

I've played countless games of Mr. Do. I even knew the 255 lives trick and would play the game for hours on end as a kid. Heck I even had my round of favorite machines depending on where i was.. whether at the bus stop or at a cocktail by the pool in a health club. I played a lot of Mr. Do. on actual machines.

...and let me just say, I've only seen the diamond ONCE.

When? IN MAME! (of all places LOL )Maybe 3 years ago or something? I was goofing around in it and an apple fell and out popped a diamond. It was so odd and unexpected and threw me off because it's existance was something I had pretty much forgotten about over the years..

So to answer the question.. I gues my answer is.. "I dunno" :P

I think the diamond is random. I have a Mr do arcade game (my favorite) and the diamond pops up now and again. I have even had it pop up 2 times in one game. I'll have to try the credit thing out and report back.

Well, I tried keeping the credits maxed out and played about 10 full games. Never saw the diamond. I even continued to put in more credits than the 9 it allows. (You'll hear a chime still when you put the credit in, at least during the game.)
