true but there are many people that only play playstation and forget about all of the other systems but i hate sony because the graphics suck and they hardly make their own games

Sega's my favourite game company if we're talking all of gaming history but there's absolutely no point in them making hardware anymore. We don't need another piece of hardware on the market, certainly not one that's likely going to fail and drain money from Sega. It's the games that matter.

Valid points, but, I still want a new Sega system.
I could care less about PS3, or X-Box Next or whatever the sam-hell these new contraptions will be called.
Get Sega back in. I'm sorry, I want more Sega. Simple as that.

I would only want Sega back in the hardware biz because they seem to make a lot more great software to try and support their own hardware..
I haven't been too impressed with Sega the software company so far...

I really loved Sega as a company and I absolutely adore the Dreamcast... that having been said, it would be nearly impossible for Sega to release a new console by themselves now. I could see, and it would be very interesting and odd, but I could see Sega working with another company to help build and market a console exclusively -- either Microsoft or Nintendo -- but I don't think that it is too likely in the near future. It doesn't make sense for Sega at this point, and neither Microsoft nor Nintendo feels the need to really get Sega totally on board one of their consoles...
Yet.
The success of Super Monkey Ball for the GameCube really made a lot of people notice Sega could make quirky but great software still. I think that in the future, you could see either Microsoft or Nintendo making them into an exclusive developer with a very sweet deal. I only leave Sony out of this because they don't tend to hold onto third party developers in the same way that MS and Nintendo do. For instance, GTA and Metal Gear Solid are both released on the PS2 first, but they have both made their way to other consoles in updated forms. MS bought out Bungie and Rare to develop exclusive titles. Nintendo has their huge first party studios and they have held onto companies with major exclusives in the past (Turok series, Killer Instinct, Cruin'n ___, etc.) And Nintendo is a little more desperate.
If Sega makes their own non-arcade system, I think they might try for a handheld of some sort. Never again do I expect to see a true Sega console.

This is a biased question as everyone on this forum is likely to support SEGA and does collect old games so obviously they do all like Sega. If you go around asking any average gamer, they will tell you that they dont care and they all complain that the Dreamcast is a garbage system, so its likely to not happen, although I would like it to happen along with everyone else.

Perfect answer. Ideally, I would like to have seen the Dreamcast do well, but I don't think that was in the cards. Sega re-entering the console business at this point would be suicidal.

I honestly don't know of *any* "average gamer" who would declare (or complain?) that the Dreamcast is a garbage system. In fact, in all of the game stores I go to, a lot of the people working there keep their Dreamcasts and talk about them. When I bought Crazy Taxi 3 for my Xbox, the employee there said that he loves them on his Dreamcast and that the system died too soon.
It really seems to be only Sony, Xbox or Nintendo fanboys (not lumping you in here...) that would make a statement like that. I don't own a PS2, but I don't think it is a garbage system. Hell, I can't think of one system I would ever call a garbage system just because I didn't own it. That's goofy.

I'd love to see Sega return if the market changes again. Right now we have the Sony powerhouse with MS and Nintendo and we've seen how well the market is handling 3 big systems right now. I'd think if Sega made some excellent games, and like someone else mentioned, get into an exclusive deal it could help them fincaially in the future to start hardware developing again.
Know what would be ironic? Nintendo AND Sega developing a system together.

I voted yes, but the second I did I wanted to put no.
SEGA is to involved as a Third Party company. They've already co-developed a Nintendo Franchise, and they have many Xbox titles co-published by Microsoft on the Xbox. I think its to late for them. As much as I want to see it all happen, I don't think it can... plus 3 systems is to much already! No way in hell am I going to shell out $__.__ for a system and $__.__ for games for that system... I can barely keep up with Just GameCube and Xbox.

I voted "Yes" but I wouldn't want SEGA to make new hardware right now...perhaps at some point in the future.
Maybe after this upcoming generation.

That wouldn't be ironic. That would be just another business deal. And given all the Sega games already on Nintendo platforms, not even a stretch at that.
Ironic: Sega stops making videogames and starts a campaign about how they are the work of the devil and should be outlawed.

Exactly. I'd love to know why that guy even made such a ridiculous website.
Yay for inaccurate websites that think they're being smart! And for making up things like that damned 'Beta 7" thing.
Ugh, I really, really, really, hate that website.

I think it would be a great idea but then there would be too many consoles. I think as of right now, Sega should continue to concentrate all efforts (and money) to their gaming departments. I think for now that will do (in my opinion).

Sega were never as good as Nintendo and as a result they went down the toilet. I still have a bit of respect for them as they really were a true gaming company unlike Sony. As far as a new Sega console I think it would only be good for the market :)

I voted yes, but not right away, not the new gen coming up but maybe 2 generations from now, sega has built up so many new series in these past few years over the 3 systems....they'd no doubt have a solid library, the hard part would be gettting people to come back from sony ms and the big N...but all in all ID DIE to see sega re-enter the console market, would save me money. wont have to spend on 3 different systems

if sega made a new console i would be jumping everywhere, probably breaking things, and screaming with glee. but:
In 2000, Sega's Chairman Isao Okawa dies and as a last request, Sega will make no more hardware: no developments and halt the hardware already in production.

What? An overpriced financial burden on the company that ultimately leads to their bankruptcy? No thanks.
On topic - yes I would love for a new Sega console. But will it happen in reality? I doubt it.

I'm going to have to suggest a variation of a post I read earlier.
Sega, SNK, NEC, Atari & Nintendo go in on a system...the Segecktarido!
I'd buy that before a PS3 or X2.

Sega can make great games, but, at least for this generation, those games have been great complimentary titles rather than defining titles. Just off the top of my head, Skies of Arcadia seems to be the one current generation game that could legitimately be used as part of the foundation of a system. Many others could shore up the system, but I don't see any other title helping to shoulder the system's entire weight. Otogi, Jet Set Radio, House of the Dead, Crazy Taxi, Super Monkey Ball, Panzer Dragoon, etc. are all great series, but not system sellers. At least not for general gamers of this generation. That's why I think the Dreamcast failed to compete against the PS2. I buy almost every Sega game for the systems I own, and not because I'm loyal to Sega - I just really like those games- but I wouldn't necessarily buy a new Sega system just to get them.
I'm perfectly willing to be wrong about this, but, as much as I like Sega, I just don't think they produce system selling titles anymore. That doesn't mean that they don't make some of the best games around, or that they don't own property that could be developed into system selling titles once again. Sonic never quite made it to the 21st century, IMO, and Phantasy Star is too bogged down in second rate online play, but each franchise could explode onto the scene again in a major way.

I would love to see a new sega console.
I buy games all the time for the system and there just as good as ps2 gamecube and xbox
The videogame industry is starting to get smaller and smaller with the cost of making videogames smaller companies will be leaving and companies like EA will be getting bigger and bigger and lots of good ideas will be lost.
back in the genesis days we had super nintendo neogeo sega cd 3do ps1 jaguar turbo duo lots of choices and lots of good games. We had four systems now just three and who knows who's next we need more systems
Sega has so many classics and icons that they need to make a comback in the future for the fans having sonic on nintendo is like mario on xbox or ps.
Its just not the same

Look i really like sega and my dreamcast still gets a good workout everyday. But i think their time in the hardware world has passed. Sega never quite figured out the console game and i don't want them to risk destroying the company by trying to make a new one. The consoles we have right now are fine and their successors are really shaping up nicely. I love sega, but i want them to stay in the software world. I think it's best if they keep their efforts focused on delivering a great game and not on building a new console.

Indeed. As much as I'd love another way to support Sega, there's no way a Japanese company would dishonor the man, it's just not done.
Honoring the dead aside, they do need to get a handle back on their game development. Specifically, Sonic Team needs a swift kick in the Yuji Naka. Get that programmer-turned-celebrity out of there, then maybe they can start making a good Sonic game, preferably NOT from a hacked up Sonic Adventure engine. And a real Phantasy Star game.
I bet Yuji Naka has issues with Naoto Oshima, which is why Sonic CD hasn't appeared anywhere since 1996. Arrogant bastard, I hope a tengu strikes him down.
