Phantasy star online, Alien Front Online, Quake III Arena. Are these games online only, I mean can you play them like a normal game offline to?

I know for a fact that PSO has an offline mode. I'm not sure on the other two, though.

Alien Front Online can be played offline as well.

Quake III was playable offline as well. As far as I know, there weren't any exclusively online games for the DC, save for maybe Speed Devils Online (since it had a predecessor lacking in an online mode).
As far as the servers, I doubt they're still even up. Sega pulled all of theirs down, meaning AFO, PSO, Outtrigger, Quake III Arena, etc. are done for. As for Gamespy hosted servers in games like Unreal Tournament, I don't know if they're still up, but I would very highly doubt it.

u can do it with phantasy star (homebrew server) and quake 3

Yes, having played all of these games extensively, I can confirm that you can play them both online and offline.

Although you can play all of these games offline, Alien Front online and PSO are lacking in the offline modes. As there is no split screen like in Quake.

Quake III can still be played online. Anyone can host a server with the PC version if they have the right maps and the right version of the server software.
