Hi all,
Just finished watching G4's Icons. It was the episode covering the history and impact of Tetris in the gaming world. It reminded me of my love for that game and the various offshoots that have come out over the years. But, I realized I don't really own any puzzle games and really don't know what is considered the best in the current puzzle game genre. Anybody have any recommendations on some fun games I can pick up? Thanks for any helpful replies.

Bust-a-move series. I like bust-a-move 4 for dreamcast, but they have it for cube and ps2 as well (maybe xbox, not sure)

True, but saying Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo sounds odd to some. ;)
Oh, I also suggest Hello Kitty's Cube Frenzy (Yes, i'm serious. It's a fun game)

I love the nintendo ds version. I'm not a huge fan of puzzlers, but my all time favorite is dr robotnicks mean bean machine on genesis

Turnabout for PSOne. Complete budget title but oddly addicting and never going to be considered easy.
I've heard great things about Intelligent Qube for PSOne, but this fetches a fair price.
Also heard great things about Devil Dice and Bombastic, and even though I own bombastic I've not played either.
I guess Katamari Damacy could be considered a puzzle game of sorts. I'm stuck because I'm certainly not using my time efficiently enough in the level I'm on.

Bombastic (PS2) is a lot of fun. Especially multiplayer.

I suggest you import that (http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-4a-15-puzzle%2Bcollection-70-23g.html) one cause it features all the classics.
"Puyo Pop Fever"(GC) is also roxorox

I second Mr.Driller. Also, if you do have a DS or plan on picking one up, definely get Zoo Keeper. Awesome game.

Zoocube (GC) is pretty fun. Bombastic (PS2) can be good if you have the patience to get through the learning curve at first.

Here's a vote for Tall: Infinity for the PSX. Budget title that came out later for the system, and you can get it for cheap, cheap, cheap.

Landmaker (Builder's Block in States) for PlayStation is very fun and cheap.
One of the launch titles for the PS2 was a gorgeous puzzler called Fantavision. You should be able to find it used just about anywhere for a few dollars.
Other than that, you'll find that many of the common puzzle franchises are available.
Otostaz (PS2) looks interesting.
If you like Mr Driller then you need to get Mr Driller: Drill Land for Gamecube.

What system(s) do you have?
I'm a bigger fan of puzzle games on my handhelds personally, although I do buy 'em for my consoles.
I've been playing a lot of Mr. Driller DS lately. And you can't go wrong with a Bust-A-Move. Those are probably my favourite puzzle franchises currently on the market.
(If you have a PS1 I'd second the "Turnabout" recommendation. I had my wife hooked on that one :) )

Mr. Driller, is in my opinion the greatest puzzle game ever. Also, do yourself a favor and stay the hell away from Tetris Worlds for GCN. I love tetris, but that game is garbage.

puyo pop for GC is great, also if you pick up the Sonic Mega Collections disk, yo get DR. Robotnik's mean bean machine which is a GREAT puzzle game. well worth the 20 bucks!

Cleopatra's Fortune on the Playstation is another one worth picking up, and it should be pretty cheap too.

If you have the means, import the Nintendo Puzzle Collection for Gamecube. Three excellent titles in one!

Looks like some decent suggestions. Is Mr. Driller Drill Land for Gamecube only available in Japan? If that got a US release I probably would check that out. Oh, and I already have Sonic Mega Collection for Gamecube. Unfortunately, I lent it to a friend and he's being an ass about giving it back. But, yea Mean Bean Machine is great. Here's the rundown of the consoles I own - which will invariably narrow down the suggestions posted:
NES
SNES
N64
Gamecube
XBOX
Feel free to offer more suggestions even if they are for a system I don't have (such as Playstation - which I will, hopefully, be getting in the near future).

N64
For the N64, here are some titles to check out:
Pokémon Puzzle League
Wetrix
Tetrisphere
I haven't played Tetrisphere; of the other two, I like Pokémon Puzzle League the best. Sometimes it's hard to line up the pieces in Wetrix.

I hated this game the first time that I played it, but it grew on me over time. It's really fun and difficult in the later stages. Got a great multiplayer mode too. Worth picking up for a decent price.

Ahh, no love for Dreamcast? You can play both games on Dreamcast, Dreamcast also has other puzzle games like Wetrix, Tetris, and Chu Chu Rocket. In Japan Dreamcast has other puzzle games like Cleopatra, Musapey Choco Maker, Supper Puzzle Fighters XII (damm Capcom, why didn't they bring this over here).
I have Tetrisphere for N64, I personally don't like most of the puzzle games 3D, way too confusing which took the fun out of it.
I'll "3rd" Turnabout, which also runs on PS2, if you dont consider PS1 current.
I had non-gamers (my dad & brother) comment on how cool the music was, while the rest of us were screaming at my neice about what move(s) to make next!

You can play both games on Dreamcast.
I mentioned 3 games - which two are you talking about? I know you can get Mr. Driller for DC, as I own it. But I've never seen a Bust a Move or Turnabout on DC.
(And for the record no, I don't love the DC)
Puzznic is a budget PS1 game I own that was actually a NES game originally. Check it out.
For the record the SNES version of Bust-A-Move is the version that got both me and my wife hooked on the series :)

Sega Swirl was a decent puzzle game for the Dreamcast and cheap too. especially if you consider the fact that it's on just about all the DC demo disks.

Thanks for the informative replies everybody! I think I'll be checking out Turnabout and Puyo Pop Fever. I still have a couple of questions though. Does anybody have an opinion on the best incarnation of Tetris available? Also, does anyone know if Mr. Driller Drill Land got a US release?

Does anybody have an opinion on the best incarnation of Tetris available?
I'm guessing *everybody* does. :)
Mine is the GBC version, because of it's portability. Unfortunately I don't own a version for the systems you have so I can't help out much there :)
