The thing with DDR is: It is so easy to cheat.

I have found that if you press all buttons simultaniously, then you can do it - You don't necessarily need to press the right buttons in order, but can get away with pressing all of them.

That takes away the hard part. All you need to do then is time it right.

Still, even with good timing, it is still quite unbelievable!

Shame about the interferance with the monitor...

I don't believe anything is wrong with his monitor, that's just what computer screens look like when you record them with a video camera. I could be wrong though :monkey:

I believe this is sped up.

At the beginning of the video it says 1.5 rate.

If he can do that with any tune at first attempt then I'm pretty impressed.

However, if, as I suspect, he started off slowly, learned all the finger work and then just learned to "play" it faster and faster, it doesn't seem any harder than, say, Chopin. Compared to Chopin, though, it requires a LOT less finesse and uses only four fingers.

Anyone else who plays piano care to chime in?

Ya, this is legit. I know some of the top DDR/Stepmania (the video is stepmania) players in the state, and some of them are nearly this good. Archowl is widely considered to be the top Stepmania player, if you play the hard stuff then you'll find that a huge amount of the toughest songs were made by him too.

I believe this is sped up.

I thought so too in the begining, but if you listen to the strings they dont go faster. Pretty amazing, is it a japanese whos playing? They are the best ;)

Even though he's using a computer keyboard and you can't press all 4 arrows simultaneously.

Yes yes, Stepmania, whee, Arch0wl is the best Stepmania player on the planet because everybody else just plays Beatmania or Pop'n instead. Or plays DDR with, you know, their feet. Nice video, but I'd rather see one of Arch0wl's IIDX videos.

At the beginning of the video it says 1.5 rate.

1.5 rate refers to how fast the arrows scroll up the screen. At the beginning of the song you can choose 1x, 1.5x, 2x, etc.

I'm not saying it is fake, but I know how it could be faked. If you play it at a slower speed and then videotape it, speed it up and play it back on the monitor...then record with a video camera onto the monitor it is possible. However, I don't know a whole lot about that game, so I could be wrong.

That's some inhuman shit right there, though!

The screen effect is the result of different scan frequencies (the camera and the monitor) not being up to sync with each other.

Beatmania IIDX stomps all over this in terms of difficulty. For proof...

Go down to the Lisu playing One More Lovely video. It's sheer madness. And he does it ONE HANDED.

I have seen that before, but it is still @_@ . What I think is amazing other than the fact that the kids fingers move 1,000 mph, is that the game would even feature a level that is that hard! Honestly, if I saw that level for the first time, I would think it's humanly impossible!
There is also a video online of someone playing a similar game in a Japanese arcade. It's pretty amazing, because the guys hands move fast as hell just like this vid.

Stepmania isn't an official Konami product. It's just a DDR simulator, and thus anybody with the ability to use a text editor can make their own step files for songs. Konami isn't that sadistic. At least they wouldn't have you doing that sort of nonsense with your feet. But check out that IIDX video I linked up there, seriously. It's like a hundred times worse. Ha ha.

since I cant read japanese I have no clue where this link is.
Also the video is legit. If it were sped up the monitor frequency would speed up as well.

Oh, come on, you can still at least identify the characters "Lisu" and "One More Lovely". ;-)

Fine, here are the URLs on the mirror sites for those afraid of the crazy moon language:

thats where the monitor interrferance comes in, the strips are normal speed, so you can see its not sped up.

But unless you have actually filmed your tv or monitor and know exactly how fast the interferance (actually refresh rate) moves then this could be sped up. I would imagine the the rate at which the interferance scrols from top to bottom looks about right, but it still could be spead up and still look pretty normal!
