View Full Version : Degrees of relation in the DP bacon

In an attempt to link the evil-doers in a sinster plot, I became perplexed. How many auctions are required to link all the DP mods based on their eBay feedback?

I think he means something along the lines of dp mods either:
a) have a conspiracy to boost feedback
b)eventually would form some huge interconnected network based on buying and selling from each other
I dunno...

Well, it's not exactly very well worded, but I *think* he wants to know if it would be possible to surf through all the DP mods' ebay accounts just by linking through feedback
e.g. find a feedback from Sniderman in Joe's feedback, then one in Joe's from, uhhhh, Flack .. and so on until you've gone through everybody.
Kinda similar to the 'six degrees of separation' theory except with ebay transactions as the connectors rather than 'knowing someone'.
If the question is 'what is the minimum number of auctions that would be required for all the mods to be connected in this way' then the answer is
n-1, where n is the number of mods. Simple really. Or if you count a dutch auction as one auction then even simpler - the answer is 1!
Anyway, hopefully I have now confused even more people. But my maths is absolutely correct, and I defy anyone to prove me wrong on that! :D

Try this:
The Oracle of Bacon (http://www.cs.virginia.edu/oracle/)
Input any actor/actress, and the computer will give you the shortest "degrees list" to Kevin Bacon. Example: Richard Pryor -
Richard Pryor was in Muppet Movie, The (1979) with Steve (I) Martin
Steve (I) Martin was in Novocaine (2001) with Kevin Bacon
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example - Rick Moranis -
Rick Moranis was in My Blue Heaven (1990) with Colleen Camp
Colleen Camp was in Trapped (2002) with Kevin Bacon

That Bacon site is insane! I couldn't stump it...I even tried old actors from the 40s and 30s and it was always with in 2 or 3 degrees.
Fabio was the biggest with 4 degress, though it's really 3, since he was in Dude, Where's My Car.

Simple
The Oracle says: Thomas A. Edison has a Kevin Bacon number of infinity.
Thomas A. Edison cannot be linked to Kevin Bacon using only feature films.
About 12% of all actors cannot be linked to the rest of the movie universe, either because they have appeared only in TV features or straight-to-video releases that the Oracle doesn't count, or because they have not appeared in any features with actors from the Hollywood mainstream.

I found yesterday that I'm about 4 degrees away from Kevin Bacon (relationship-wise, not movie-wise). My buddy went to some youth group conference a few weeks ago where his buddy's friend was Kevin Bacon's son. Kevin Bacon provided the dough to rent the hall as a favor for his kid. Odd.
So, my buddy is at 3 and that would make me 4. LOL

Yeah, I'm only 3 away from him as I am in a local comedy show, The Caribou Show, it only airs in South Dakota so unless you live there don't ask about it, We had Ken Osmond (Eddie Haskel, leave it to beaver) as a guest on an episode and Ken Osmond was in Good Morning, Miss Dove (1955) with Janet Brandt and Janet Brandt was in Queens Logic (1991) with Kevin Bacon

Damn, Magnor. I found plenty that the system couldn't find any relation to him...that 12%, I guess, but I never found a 7. Good job.
Thetoxicone...that's pretty damn weird.

I found one with an infinity value, and he's a LEGITIMATE person in the movie industry:
Harry Gregson-Williams.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004581/
He's a composer in the Metal Gear Solid games, but he's also worked in various movies, including Team America: World Police, Chicken Run, and Enemy of the State.
Of course, he's -not- an actor so I don't know if it counts... but he's in the IMDB. :)

Thats easy 12% of all actors have an infinity value. The goal is to find the highest finite value. The website mentions 7s,8s,9s,10s, and even an 11 !
And why is this thread in Ebay auctions?

Your number of zero stands not a chance against the wisdom of Magnor.
kevin bacon's great grandma has a Bacon number of -3.
