What are your favorite gaming commericals from past systems that always made you laugh, cry, or really want the game for the Atari, TG-16, SMS, NES or any others?

The NES Game Genie commerical was the coolest. Seeing all those games fall from the closet was a great visual effect. As the narrator put it, "Run faster, jumper higher with the Game Genie."

I like the old Legend of Zelda ads, both the original with the rapping geeks (look at it this way, most of us WERE these geeks at one point or another) and the one with the crazy man (Pea-pea-peahats! Zelda?... Zelda!!!...).

The only commercial I saw was the Segas Sonic one. It had a man and a boy dressed in black suits and were offering you the system like a mafia would "Offer you cant refuse". It was cool wish I could find it somewhere.

Anyone know where to get this commerical possibly?

I remember the Sega commercial where a groundhog emerges from his hole only to have a TV fall from the sky and squash him, heralding Sega's "Hedgehog Day" release of some new Sonic title. A group of officials pull the television away and ask "Did you see your shadow?" to which the bedraggled groundhog replies, "SEGA!"

Silly as it was, that 30-second spot has always stuck in my mind.

@Kaine: Yup. Same place I got them... :)

It was at Gaming-Age.com, in a 4-part series about old videogame advertising (8- and 16-bit). The first part (http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/specials/special.pl?spec=adspecial&pagenum=1) concerns Nintendo. You will find the Zelda TV ads on page 9 of that article (http://www.gaming-age.com/cgi-bin/specials/page2.pl?spec=adspecial&pagenum=9&pages=9&title=Flashback:%20Video%20Game%20Advertising).

For parts 2, 3 and 4, just look in the Specials index (see tag on top of the page) and scroll down until you see Flashback: Video games advertising part 4, then part 3, then part 2 (articles are listed in chronological order, starting with the most recent one).

The crazy guy one was my favorite too.

Not quite as classic, but anyone remember the rapping kid playing Link's Awakening? "I'm down wit' Zelda!"

I remember the Sega baseball game ads with "Hi Ricky !"

I also remember the "coffee...tea..SEGA!" in the Plane it was about the Gamegear. Newcoleco and i we dumped this commercial (french version) and it was send to Joe, so it will be available sometime in the futur on the DP web site.

Hehe, glad to have made your day, Kaine...

Unfortunately, I don't really remember any Sega ads. It seems that the Sega scream is the only thing I remember from them.

However, the Crash Bandicoot ads with an actor in a Crash mascot costume struck me as being funny, especially the one set near Nintendo's headquarters. No wonder we all thought the game was made by Sony, even though it wasn't.

And who could forget the old Activision commericals for their Atari 2600 games (brought back to life by Activision Anthology).

Some these classics should get hosted by DP. :)

Like the classic Ice Hockey ad featuring a young Phil Hartman as a geeky customer who becomes more aggressive as he's told about that great hockey game by Activision...
