Atari Lynx or Neo Geo Pocket Color?

Ok, ok, I have decided to change the topic of discussion.

I want a new handheld, and it's come down to the Lynx or the NGPC, which one is a better decision? Mind telling me the benefits over the other, and why? What's the library on each? Total number of US games released?

There are roughly 80 "official" Lynx games, and of those, very few are exclusive to the system *and* still worth playing in 2005. I vote nay.

i love that games, so i picked up the system and few games when i found it cheap in box

if i didnt have chips challenge and was cheap, i probably wouldnt have bothered....so unless you are dying to get one, then just spend your money on something else

I love Rampart on there... and Stun Runner is pretty good. Those are the two games that I keep going back to.

just kidding of course I have two. I actually like that it's the biggest handheld I own since I have big hands. The games I've played and own are enough fun to make a purchase. I was also able to get it cheap so that could be a factor too.

You get to play Roadblasters, Klax, Rampart, and STUN Runner. There's Chip's Challenge, Electrocop, Gauntlet 3 and Slime World. Oh, and there's that winter olympics homebrew game that was released a year or two ago.

Grab a Lynx, I'd say. It should be dirt cheap.

Sigh...the Lynx gets such a bad wrap sometimes...if there was any justice in the world, we'd all own one.

I was in the same position awhile ago. NGPC or Lynx...for the love of God...get the Lynx. Lynx has quickly become one of my favorite systems of all time.

Games to look out for: Xenophobe, Warbirds, Blue Lightning, Todd's Adventures in Slime World, Chip's Challenge, Rampart, Klax, Paperboy, Lemmings, Battle Wheels, California Games, Xybots...all examples of awesome games that you'll most likely love.

I'd recommend a set of rechargable batteries...it takes 6 AA. That's what I do...I think I get around 5-6 hours on a Lynx II. It's a great investment.

Oh...Lynx hardware benefits? Back lit, Flippable screen, Hardware sprite scaling.

Oh please, oh please get yourself a Lynx!

Oh, and I'd recommend www.best-electronics-ca.com for it. They sell really nice refurbished ones...and they have a good selection of games too. They're a little bit pricier than I think they should be, but it's certainly safer than the E-bay route.

Lemme be the first (apparently) to say NGPC. If you like Fighters, RPGs, and puzzle games, this is the system for you.

Could also be because this is the only handheld I play, ever. Don't even whip out my lit GBA. I love the NGPC.

well now that you've changed the subject I'll chime in again. I say just flip a coin because you know as well as I do that you will eventually get them both. It's tough to compare these two since the types of games you'll get on both are totally different.

The Lynx is a great system, but it's too big and it eats batteries like hell. You won't play it outside.

I have to vote for the Lynx. I had always wanted one, so I finally picked up a beautiful mk1 last year. Nostalgic excellence. As mentioned before, RoadBlasters (my fave), S.T.U.N. Runner, Hydra, Blue Lightning, Chips Challenge, The Gates of Zendocon, Zarlor Mercenary, Rygar, APB, Klax... the list goes on and on if you like late 80's early 90's Atari arcade games. The Lynx has very cool scaling capabilities and a certain feel that is indescribable. I don't understand why it gets such a bad rap. Yes, the battery life is on the low side, but the screen, though low resolution, deals well with blurring; something that other portables from the era have problems with (the Nomad and original GB come to mind). Get an AC adapter.

The NGPC is cool, especially if you like fighting games (SNK vs. Capcom is amazing), but it still has only remained a curio for me. I have a bunch of good games, and it is a nice piece of hardware with a clear screen, but I just don't play it that often. If I want to play an SNK fighter, I have plenty of other options.

Both are excellent, but the Lynx still has a WOW factor to it. It was ahead of its time.

The Lynx does have some good games on it, but it just has too many drawbacks for me to recommend it over an NGPC. Crap battery life, terrible d-pad and it's way too big and heavy.

The NGPC has an excellent range of games, has better battery life than a GBA and has the best non-backlit screen out of any handheld ever released.

Funny, I would have listed the D-pad among the Lynx' strong points.

I really love the system. The fact that it's factory backlit automatically makes it the choice for me over the NGPC. Both systems have a limited library with *mostly* great games. The Lynx is just better known for old-school arcade games and has some very neat scaling effects. Blue Lightning, the game I got when I got my Lynx way back when, is still my favorite. I'm also a fan of STUN Runner, the Ninja Gaiden games, Turbo Sub, Hydra, and Battlewheels.

Ultimately you can't lose with EITHER system. Just get 'em both.

Naturally. In fact, if portability doesn't matter to you, that removes TWO problems that Lynx owners have: short battery life and overall large size of unit. These won't matter if you're plugging it into a wall at home.

I love the Lynx but I would recommend the NGPC over it because I find the old screens like it and Game Gear very hard to look at today. Games-wise they're both impressive. The Lynx has more good games in total but nothing on it impresses me as much as SNK vs Capcom and Sonic on NGPC.

The only Lynx issue is battery life. That can be fixed with a nice set of rechargables.

I own practically every console out there, and I play Lynx the most. Great games, portable. Enough said.

Neo Geo Pocket...while nice...just doesn't do it for me. Theres some great games...MOTM, Sonic, Carfighters, etc...

Battery life is great...but you can't see the screen for crap...and really, graphically...though the MOTM sprites are Mega cute, I think the whole system feels a bit too..."Game Boy Color" things aren't quite colorful enough...if that makes any sense.

Both good systems, both can be had on the cheap...just buy them both and judge for yourself, I guess.
