WOW! This thing is incredible. Someone purchased this as a late Xmas gift for me...much to my surprise! I cannot believe how sweet this thing is, an emulator-boy's dream come true! :)

Question for those that have it:

Is it possible to browse files installed in the memory? Or perhaps even browse files on the SD card while it is in the system and hooked up USB? There must be a third party app out there that allows this to happen. I have a card reader, so I guess it is not a real big deal to take it out of the Zodiac and add stuff to it, but it would be really nice to leave the zodiac in the cradle with the card in it, connect and do what I want. Not only that, but it would be nice just to browse the actual Zodiac's ram. I guess what I am looking for in that respect is something like FExplorer for Symbian OS's, and maybe something other than Palm Desktop that will allow me to send anything, and perhaps browse the files in memory and SD. Anything like this out there?

There is an app called Filez which will let you do this.

I have a question:

Are all files transferred with the use of a cord, or Blue Tooth, ala N-Gage?

I would love one to play NES/SNES and Genesis ROMs. Do they work with Macs? Because I know the damn GBA version of the Emulator stuff doesn't. And that's bullcrap.

I'd love to play all my ROMs on the go. But until someone caters to the Mac users, I ain't buyin'. (And don't even DARE suggest buying a PC because I'm sick of it.)

So, can Tapwave owners be Mac users? Or the other way around. Whatever.

I believe The Missing Sync from Mark/Space will allow you to properly sync a Zodiac with OS X. It supports other stuff like Clies, too.

Well if you have an SD card reader on your PC you can transfer the files to the SD card and run them from there.

Yeah, a reader really is the way to go with transferring files. I'm really amazed at what this baby can do. On another note, why is it so hard to click and unclick the memory cards? They drop in so deeply, and I have no fingernails :) I actually have to use the back end of the stylus to push the card in to click it into place...

I have a Mac and a N-Gage and I have no problem putting roms, videos, music on it. But a much smaller screen than the Tapwave.

You should buy a PC.

Alternately, there is a program called "SD Card Copy", in which you can put the palm PRC files on a memory card, insert it in the system, and install software that way. WIth this, all you would need is a card reader for your Mac to copy programs to the card. This of course does not solve the problem with allowing you to sync contacts and so forth, but you would be able to install apps/emus without the need of palm software and hotsyncing.

I figured I'd revive this thread because I found the program that allows me to browse the Zodiac's SD cards while connected to the PC. It's called Card Export II:

Awesome program I must say! Imagine that, I'm all lazy and can't even stand removing my SD card and sticking it in the reader...haha. But, it does work great.

I have been playing with this machine for a few weeks now. I still say WOW. If only everybody knew what it was capable of...or even what it is :)

The Tapwave is incredible. Two of the sites I visit on a dail;y basis are:

http://www.tapland.com/
and
http://www.zodiacgamer.com/

These two sites are a must for any Zodiac owner. There is much more to them than just gaming. If you own a Zodiac or are thinking about getting one browse through these sites for a little while to see what all the fuss is about.

I believe the Zodiac is easily the best convergence device so far.

Yeah, I have pretty much jumped head first into the Zodiac world. It is easily the best device I have purchased (or actually had given to me :) in the past few years. Now with Mame being ported (I have been testing PalmMame the past few days...awesome) and so many other great things I truly believe this is really the best portable device out there. It brought a tear to my eye to actually view my old C64 demos within the emulator available for it :) So, now I can play:

NES
SNES
Genesis
Gameboy (GB/GBC)
Neogeo Pocket
Wonderswan
Colecovision
Atari 2600
Sega Master System
Turbografx 16
Mame v0.36

And play MP3's, and Divx movies (which currenlty occupy one of the two 1GB SD cards I have in the system right now)

There are more that I have yet to test due to time constraints, but this is really the ultimate in portable gaming for me. And as a HUGE bonus it is also a Palm OS5 device...compatible with the thousands and thousands of softwares out there. I just cannot say enough good about this baby!

I have to ask, as I know next-to-nothing about the system.

How's the MAME emulation? I'm just trying to get an idea if it will play MAME games like, say, pac-man or more like, say, metal slug. What's the most advanced MAME game you can play and still achieve a good framerate? Do all SNES games play more or less full speed?

Mame is pretty new to the system, but it does play many titles from the 80's and early 90's at a full framerate. Double Dragon, 1942 and so on. It is also NOT using the Z's hardwarwe acceleration just yet. After Tapwave signs the program it will be able to use those API's. It's pretty good now, and I wonder how it will be using the Z's hardware! Good things are definitely to come...

As for SNES, it's more or less fullspeed at Frameskip 1 with sound on. I find the majority of the games play just fine. Take for example Super Mario World. Just the music *slightly* slows down at points, but the game is VERY playable :)
