As the style and tone of Final Fantasy VI changes drastically halfway through, I was wondering which world was the more popular.

This is the main reason why I strongly feel FFIV was a far better game. The World of Ruin had an emotional effect, but really relinquished all the charm. All the charming points of the game I remember were from the first half of the game.

There most certainly are memorable moments from the World of Ruin, but overall I found it to be entirely drab and somewhat out of line with FF in general. The colorless pallate used in the world of ruin really turned me off, and all the bright vibrant colors of the world of balance is what really makes me think fondly of the moments in a game.

I don't know why but I really enjoyed the world of ruin despite the bland colors...

ive never played it, but it sounds like the 'stripes' or 'chasing amy' of video games...somewhat accurate?

Not even close.

I love the non-linear gameplay of the World Of Ruin. You could pontentially beat the game immediately after you get the airship, with only three characters.

I liked the world of balance more, because many of the things in the world of ruin were fairly hard to figure out.

The World of Balanace, of course. I honestly think that we are supposed to like it better then the World of Ruin, from the general stand point. The drab colors of the World of Ruin, however, set the tone for the rest of the game...making you feel like you need to drag on and on and on, to set things right again.

Aside from aesthetics, WoR honestly ruined the game for me. It's hard to say specifically why, but...

By this point the characters special abilities become nearly meaningless when compared to the way-overpowered magic system. Also I've never liked games where they give you a ton of characters to choose from.

Just... everything COOL and "wow-inspiring" was in the first half of the game. All the brilliant mini-games that were so well-integrated... not just thrown in there with the plot twisted around it to fit like so many games.

Personally, if they could've continued with the brilliance of the first half, it could've been the greatest game of all time. Instead it falls behind FFIV in the pantheon of FF's for me.

I understand exactly what your saying Fantasia, and well i disagree with it it's all good :)

but I love the world of ruin, it was so interesting fighting the tentcales in the basement of the castle, though I also like the world of ruin, it's a hard choice for me the game is easily one of my favorite of all time, so it's hard for me to decide
