I had to ask, as I picked up a pirate nes multicart with it included and I wrote this game off after playing the 2600 version (so bland) but I've been playing the nes version and its really growing on me. I can only make it to round 3 and can get around 50,000 points but I keep coming back to it, and it's becoming one of my favorite classics now. I wanted to know if any of you like this game too, share your thoughts and also share which version is your favorite. Let's start a topic and enjoy.
Here's a console list with pooyan.
Atari 2600
Commodore 64 (disc)
Casio PV-1000
Tomy Tutor
Nes (Japan)
MSX
Arcade
and maybe a few more
PS: what are some of your best scores on any version?

Pooyan rocks! I can't recall my highest score off hand, but I did get to at least the 3rd intermission. Arcade version, only!
Pigs on an elevator shooting arrows at wolves ascending then descending from balloons.
They don't make them like that anymore!
The only thing I don't like about it is the squeak of the arrows being shot.
Konami ought to make an update of this game! Make it a real elaborate story about the mama pig getting the little ones back! I'd play that before another Metal Gear game, I tell you that!

Count me in as a Pooyanfan too.
Can't remember my best scores off the top of my head though. But it's tons o' fun. I'm glad it was included on the PS1 Konami Arcade Classics disc.

I've been a Pooyan fan since I discovered the game on the first multicart I ever picked up. The music is great, and the overall theme represents everything that's right with the classics. Back then it seems every game idea was the result of someones drug-induced pipe dream (realism in modern games has become the bane of my existence). I'd like to see a company in today's video game climate make a 3D rendition of a game like this!

Hey, there's also a pretty snazzy Atari 8-bit version out there.
I love Pooyan. It's a great game. I'd love to get the real arcade version of it someday.. Hey, I'd even settle for some Pootan action.
BTW, How big of a Pooyan fan are you? Can you name all of the characters in the game? (Don't peek on MAME!) :)

Yeah, OK! I just started liking this game, throw me a bone with some answers.
BTW How valuable is the famicom version? I saw it on Ebay for like $45 everything else he was selling was like 3 bucks. Apparently he thought it was worth it, so is it?

Ball breaker of a trivia question! Great!
Without looking in MAME - Mama, Pooyan, Pootan, Buuyan, um... did the wolves have names???
I have several fond memories of this game. One of which was when my cousins and I used to have marathon game sessions when we were kids. We were fiercely competitive, it made us into the awesome players we are today. Being older than him, I always took the risk of getting the big meat at the top, then firing down a lot of wolves at once to maximize the score. Points are an old-school way of playing, wheras since he was younger, he would just go for level completion and simply shoot the wolves.
Pooyan is interesting in that at the end, you are given score, time, and level for completion. He got to a higher level and had a longer playing time than me, but I still won, because I played for points!
When discussing the different versions of the pig elevator later on, he asked, "wasn't there a pig at the top carrying the mom?" I said, "there's two, actually." Out of nowhere, he made some totally mean comment about his brother saying, "with my brother it would probably take four!"
HAHAHAHA!!!! Well... um... it seemed funny at the time. Guess you had to be there...

I was pretty darn positive they were sheep!
edit: just looked at KLOV at the arcade cab...You're right. Pigs it is. Childhood memories shattered :(

I first got hooked on Pooyan through an NES ROM, and subsequently tracked down Konami Arcade Classics on the PSX (which I wish I still had). I love that game, talk about obscure arcade games...and obscure KONAMI games. I bought the 2600 version at CGE and didn't like it, it's still sitting in my trade box.

Sorry.. but Pooyan sucks :P
Well ok, a lot of people like it. But even when it was brand spanking new in the arcades (I first saw it in a cocktail in Japan).. I thought it was less than stellar. Just my pre-teen opinion of course and that's carried through to this day. ;)
