View Full Version : Games We Gamers/Collectors Should Keep Our Eyes On

so heres something ive thought about doing for a while. ( The 'Gitaru Man (Gitaroo Man)' topic finally got me thinking about this issue) It always seems like a game will come out, and a few months later its impossible to find and people are throwing away hundreds of dollars on games they could have spent a fraction of the cost on if they just picked it up in the store when it was in stock...

For Example: Rez...even though it might be getting re-released people are spending a ton of money on this game...

The Big issue is that these games arent really that old...and its a shame what some people have to pay for some of these games becuase they were not informed that they were really good games but were made in limited quantity...and i figured that there are so many gamers/collectors here at DP, with more knowledge of games old and new, than anywhere else in the world...that we could keep each other up to date on games that are out NOW, or games coming out fairly soon that we should keep our eyes open for to snag before its too late...

damn i hope im making sense :)

of course this whole thing is not concrete by any means...we might THINK a game will be rare, but after a while it might become clear we were definitly wrong about it...which is ok. We cant know for sure what will happen but at least this way we can help sort it out before its too late...so the point of this topic isnt to argue whether or not something may or may not happen.

So ill start it off:

Katamari Damacy (PS2): I know pretty much everyone here has this game, it seems to be very popular around here...but even so its a great game, but it also seems to me that not many copies are being made because i rarely see any new copies at EB or anywhere else. So this is one to snag if your even remotely interested in it....and hell its only 19.99 US

Tekken 5 (Bundle Pack): only 20,000 copies of this are being made...and it might be too late to get it seing as its pre-order only and it comes out so soon...nevertheless i thought i would mention it incase there was some hope...

So post your thoughts guys i think it will really help everyone out! Remember its only for games that have just come out recently or are about to come out soon.

RPG Maker 2, maybe? Wonder if the strategy guide's even rarer. I could pick it up at a local Fry's.
Special edition SPs. That is, the TRU exclusive gold version, the black "Who Are You?", and, most importantly, the Classic NES version.

I dont think katamari will become a $100 title, but it will definitly be one to watch. Ico is also becoming more and more expensive. sealed copies are starting to go for $25 on ebay, used to be like $10

Ugh, Ico's starting to raise in price? Damn, I really gotta buy that one. I Actually did, THREE times at that. Every single copy (they were all used) refused to play. And no, it's not my PS2. My used blue bottom contra plays perfectly.

...enough rambling. Anyways, It's always good to keep an eye on the Suikoden games. 3 & 4 aren't hard to find now, but I'm sure they'll at least be in demand in the future.

I often have similar thoughts
I always thought victorious boxing and .
Mr misquito will be rare both were different but great games you just dont see them in the store bin .

i'm hoping phantom brave and lapurcelle tactics become rare
Ialso think the suikoden series has run its rarity course

I'm not the greatest authority, but, for Xbox, I'd point out:

Frogger Beyond
This is one not everyone thinks of since the game is not exactly a classic. There was only one copy in Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area as far as I could determine, and I had to have it transferred to a store closer to me. A used copy costs 25.00 at Gamestop, which was raised from the 19.00 it was previously. On Ebay, it is selling for much more.

Marvel vs Capcom 2
Most Xbox collectors already know this one is becoming expensive.

Dai Senryaku VII
It was just released, but not every store appears to be getting it. Possibly a future rarity, but too early to tell.

Metal Sug 3
I see the occasional used copy, but this will become a favorite of collectors both old and new, I'm sure.

Silent Scope Complete
I'm not sure if this will be rare or not, but I don't see many copies around.

MLS Extra Time 2002
Possibly rare, but not necessarily in-demand.

Then there are a handfull of games for which people tend to overstate the rarity:
Toejam & Earl 3 (may become a rarity, but speculation has inlfated its price)
Air Force Delta Storm (the mot overrated Xbox title in terms of rarity)
Fatal Frame

House of the Dead 3 (not rare at all)

Ye.. I've also thought about this. But its hard to know which game who will be worth alot in a few years.

I think if you're gonna talk SP's, then a completely different thread needs to be made especially for SP's - There are a slew of really good ones in Japan (My favourite is the recently released yellow Pikachu version!)

I think there is enough material to make a really good thread out of the ol' SP...

As for this topic... I have a sneaky feeling about Suikoden IV... Also, the UK is going to be getting a really cool Resident Evil 4 GameCube bundle, and in it a two disc version of the game (Second disc being bonus material) - I think that could become a rarity in the future.

I have found that most the double disc console pack in games for the Cube still maintain a higher price than their one disc counterparts - Games like:
Zelda - Wind Waker (With Ocarina Of Time / Master Quest disc)
Mario Kart Double Dash (With bonus Zelda Collector's Edition disc)
Pokemon Colosseum (With bonus Pokemon Box disc)

Plus the fact that the Resi 4 console itself will no doubt be sought after... Not too sure how many are being produced, but I have pre-ordered one just for the hell of it!

Choro Q and Technic Beat (PS2) certainly aren't going to get any easier to find. Those were both really sparse even right after release. I'm not sure about demand for Choro Q, but Technic Beat might have some collecting/hoarding value to it eventually.

P.T.O. IV for the PS2 is one tough sucker to find, if you see it, pick it up!
