I'm interested to see how fighting fans respond to it. The last Tekken was roundly dismissed by all parties. I haven't played it myself, so I can't say whether it was because it wasn't a repeat of the earlier games, or if the balance was just off.

Tekken's always been a good game, and Namco's home versions are all fantastio. The ability to check the movelist at any time is a godsend. I've always been more of a Virtua Fighter fan, but I think there's room enough for everybody.

the game is not online and yes it WAS coming out in March until they surprised us a lil while ago with an early release....and the only way to get the bundle is to preorder cuz there are only 20,000 copies

As I said in a thread last week, when I went to a local arcade recently Tekken 5 was SWAMPED with people. It was SO busy I saw quarters placed on the side of the screen to 'hold' a game, something I have'nt seen done in YEARS. @_@

There's also a tournament going on at the arcade this weekend on the game also......

Maybe I'm missing the boat, but the only 2 3D fighters I've liked were Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur. While not quite as much a "button masher" as Dead or Alive, Tekken just never grabbed me like a Samauri Showdown or Street Fighter.

I got my bundle yesterday. The game and the stick is KILLER. I also love the case to put all your Tekken games in.

I would like to get this game but rarely pay full price for any PS2 or Xbox games.
It looks like the best Tekken ever made and with the bonus content like the arcade versions of 1-3 @_@ oh yeah!
There is a local rental store in my area that are complete idiots and sometimes sell BRAND NEW PS2 game like Toca race drive 2 for 5.00$ and I just picked up the amazing OUTRUN 2 for Xbox at a measly 10.00$ NEW :evil: so I rarely pay full price for any games.

My EB had no preorders for the bundle, and only three for the game itself (with a goal of 30, nonetheless... we're not a big fighting game store) yet we got 2 of the bundles today.

Tekken games just do not appeal to me. Im more of a guilty gear, street fighter type fan. Power stone is also a very good series. I simply do not like the style of tekken games, wether its the complexity or sometimes slow paced battles I'm not sure.

Yeah, Jinpachi a bitch isnt he? So far, I was only able to beat him with Paul, law, Kazuya, and Bryan Fury. Jinpachi is one cheap ass boss.

Not even close. I'm wacking him on hard with even characters I'm not familiar with.

Just start off with very fast attacks and knock him down. Get in your low attack, and just keep on him. Side step when he warps to shoot the killer fireball, run in, knock him in the air, rinse and repeat.

The CCG endings are awesome! Heiachi's and Lee's are my favorite so far.

I see there's not a lot of love for the Tekken franchise in this forum. Personally, I think it's one of the greatest fighting series of all time. It definitely has it's own unique style, and I can't tell you how many intensely close matches I've had against my friends. I think calling it a buttom masher is a misnomer- any fighter is like that, until you know what you're doing.

Anyway, I reserved my copy, and picked it up yesterday. After hearing about all the extras I'd get (the artbook is beautiful, btw), I cancelled my GT4 reservation, and got this instead. I've only had a chance to play it for about 30 minutes so far, but from the moment Starblade booted up during the load screen, I've loved the game. Graphics and sound are top notch as always, and the rest of the presentation is solid. I'm a bit annoyed that none of the new characters seems truly new, but then again, I haven't unlocked the rest of the fighters. I'm glad they brought back jumping, which is one thing that kept me away from Tekken 4. Overall, a solid game- nothing revolutionary thus far, but including Tekken 1-3, and Starblade, is enough to push it over the edge into 'worthy purchase' territory.

For the record, I rarely ever buy new games at MSRP anymore, too. I traded in some stuff to gamestop, taking advantage of the 30% extra deal, to soften the blow.

IMO Tekken is one of the few fighting games that you have NO chance at if you button mash....Soul Calibur 2 is a perfect example of a button mashing game...ive seen 5 year old beat SCII...honestly...but anyway im totally 100% hapy with Tekken 5 on PS2....i thought the graphics would have to be dumbed down a lot compared with the arcade version....im glad to see that they werent :)

Yep, it's an excellent game. I've been playing this nonstop. Got all the time release characters except Devil Jin for the moment. I didnt play much of the Devil Within game yet.

the graphics for the characters are exactly the same but some of the backgrounds are a tiny bit dumbed down...apart from that it looks amazing...

on a side note : i got my ass kicked sooooo bad at the Nationals today....:D oh well, i work at the arcade so it was free for me

For some reason, I can't get my Real Arcade sticks to work with this (it might not be working w/ the PS2 at all, which is very upsetting). It worked initially, but when I plugged in my second one they both just shut down. It still works w/ the other consoles though (ithey're universal), but I'm rather annoyed by them. It's probably a long shot, but has anyone else had this problem?

Oh, and Asuka and Law's ending are both hilarious. :lol:

It's pretty fun, until you realize how damn long it is. It's only worth it if you don't want to get all the characters by beating Story Mode x amount of times, which is a piece of cake.

I had to play through and beat it once, just to see what it was like. Fun at first, tedious by the end. I'm not sure if I'll play through it again, but Devil Within is at least more interesting than Tekken Force of T4.

The rest of the game is awesome, perhaps the best Tekken yet. Jinpachi is a bitch, though. His bastard level isn't quite as high as Rugal or Igniz, but I could picture him as the last boss in an SNK game. NO, you cannot play as him, maybe unless you hack the game with a Gameshark. But why would you want to committ such dishonor? Heh...

BTW, Feng Wei owns all. 8-)
