If I had the ability to travel back in time, man, I know for sure that in 1987 I would have done some things differently. In October of 1987 I was a 17 year old Junior in High School. At the time I really wasn't very into video games. I was much more interested in trying to go the the "cool" parties and hook up with incredibly fine young women.

Anyways, I did have a Nintendo NES system. I was much more of a casual gamer that liked to play sports games against my buddies. Double Dribble was a game that got played to death. Track & Field II got played alot. I actually was in a group of guys that would get together and have freaking competitions in Track & Field II for the NES. How funny is that.

But anyways, to get back to the topic. There is no question that if I could travel back in time to when I was 17 years old, in October of 1987, I would have done alot of things differently, and in addition to that I would have done whatever the hell I would have had to do to get my hands on a PC Engine right when it launched in Japan in October of 1987. To think I could have actually been playing PC Engine games back in freaking 1987!

That would have been so amazing!

Also, because I would know what I know now, I would also be playing that PC Engine on a R>G>B monitor. I mean, how state of the art would that have been? To be playing PC Engine games on a freaking R>G>B monitor way back in 1987!

I would have also got a Mega Drive the second those came out in Japan a year later.

Oops, it was October 10th 1987. I thought it was really late 1986.

What about the Mega Drive, when did that first release in Japan?

Has anybody ever seen any website that gives alot of details about the original launch of the PC Engine in Japan in early October 1987? What PC Engines games came out in late 1987 and during 1988?

The TurboGrafx-16 didn't come out until like August of 1989 right?

Man that's almost a freaking 2 year advance time. That would have been so awesome to have experienced that nice little system so early in it's lifespan.

I could think of so many more things I'd do differently if I traveled back in time...

Not saying I have a lot of regrets, but not playing a specific game system "early in its' lifespan" ain't one of 'em.

Well, certainly, there are lots of "things" I would like to do if I traveled back in time, and video games wouldn't be super high on that list, but simply from a video game standpoint, I just think it would have been so cool to experience the PC Engine when it first released in 1987.

But if you altered your past, it would also change the outcome of the future.
Would you still like games at all,or even be the same person in this alternate future? :hmm:

I have been trying to figure out PCE relase dates too. Years are based on what it says on the title screens:

1987 -

Shanghai, Bikkuriman World(variation of Wonder Boy in Monster Land), The Kung Fu(China Warrior), Kato chan & Ken chan(JJ & Jeff), Victory Run, Yokai Douchuuki(Shadowland).

I think I read somewhere that Shanghai and Bikkuriman were launch titles but I don't know for sure.

1988 -

Alien Crush, Fantasy Zone, Galaga '88, Hani in the Sky, Majin Eiyu Wataru(Keith Courage), Power League, Pro Yakyuu World Stadium, R-Type, Sengoku Mahjong, Vigilante, World Court Tennis, Appare Gateball, Dragon Spirit, Necromancer

Space Harrier says copyright Sega 1986 and Altered Beast says 1988 but I don't know when the ports were. Wonder Momo is another one that's likely early.

Hmm

In 1987 I was spending every spare moment on Atari BBS's in search of new games. I had a 1200 baud modem and I was happy :)

Then I had to go and buy a Master System and mess it up by having to BUY games again..

What was I thinking..

So let me get this straight. You regret chasing girls in high school, and wish you would have played more videogames?

No, I don't regret chasing girls in high school. I regret that I didn't pursue it even more heavily. he he. Yes, I do actually wish I played more video games then. I would have definitely done both. In addition I would have tried to work my ass off at school and have gotten straight A's. Basically, I wouldn't be sleeping a whole hell of alot.
