Oscar winner Clint Eastwood is returning to Dirty Harry.

The 74-year-old filmmaker will have an active role in the translation of the tough-guy cop franchise to the video game format, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Eastwood will consult on aspects of the design, while his voice and likeness will be used in the game.

"This will be an opportunity to satisfy the many requests over the years to continue the Dirty Harry legacy, only now in the video game medium," says Eastwood. "Creating Dirty Harry video games will also introduce this memorable film character to new generations on a medium they appreciate."

No release date has been set.

I dunno, to me the Dirty Harry movies were all about Eastwood's persona. That kind of thing doesn't translate too well to a game. Remember the Dirty Harry movie where Harry killed hundreds of bad guys? Me neither, but I'll bet that's what the game is like.

I, too, have a feeling that the movie won't really translate. The best things about the movie are:

-Harry Callahan's dry, caustic, pithy comments that betray a semi-bitter and certainly a calloused attitude. If they try to make this a shooter game without any dialogue, say goodbye to that.

-Callahan's unusual detective methods and resourcefulness (i.e., asking to borrow the suspect's gun @ the shooting range and coming back later for the bullet)

Somehow I doubt those two will come through all that well. And yes, there was a Dirty Harry game for the NES.

Perhaps he figures if Vin Diesel can get into game-making so can he...

If Eastwood didn't think this could work, he wouldn't have signed on.

Wouldn't surprise me if it ends up as another GTA clone.

I wish the ghost of Sergio Leone would make a Clint Eastwood game. That would be something to play.
