Both companies both have a lot of history and both companies both have a lot of many memorable franchises. But which is better? Both companies have recently had big hits (MGS3 and RE4) and both companies compete with survival horror games (Silent Hill and RE).
Konami has Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania and Contra under it's belt. But Capcom's got Street Fighter, Mega Man and Resident evil. All classics.
I myself choose Konami because i love the story of MGS and the fast paced action of Contra. Not to mention the creepy feel of Silent Hill. I find that Capcom spends too much time milking it's series for all their worth whether then innovating. I mean come on, how many games are there based of the Street Fighter 2 Core? Although i've got to give them credit for RE4. It was truely a new experience.
Well i've made my choice clear, but which company do you think is better?

I had to go with Capcom, but it was VERY close.
Capcom has Megaman. That is reason enough. But the also have the RE series, all the VS. fighters, the Ghouls 'n Ghosts games... ugh, so nice. Konami is also a great company, with all the music games, MGS, and Contra, one of my favorite NES games ever. In the end, it had to go to Capcom. I loooove me some Megaman.

Well, since RE4 there isn't even a close contest!
And other than ninja turtles, I haven't played ONE THING from Konami in this generation of games.

Contra, Silent Hill, and Castlevania are all great series. Some of the sequels may have been lacking, but overall they remain solid examples in their respective genres. Have not played MGS, but looks solid to me. Konami wins points here.
Capcom has whored out Mega Man and Resident Evil to an excessive extent, flooding the market with sequel after sequel and spinoff after spinoff. Each of their fighting games have received far too many sequels and revisions. And the titles they haven't fully shined (such as Power Stone) have been left to rot. Meh.

Today for me it's Capcom>Konami. Back during the 8-bit days it I would've said Konami>Capcom. Capcoms Fighting games and heavy support for kick ass arcade style games on the Dreamcast are what changed my opinion.

Tough break.....I love my Konami and Capcom to death....I voted Konami because of the obvious CastleVania reason...but Capcom made my Ghouls N Ghosts......damn it...this is hard :(

Their fighting games for the DC impressed me too. But in this generation i haven't seen much i like expcept for RE4.

very close, but in the end Capcom has Mega Man, Street Fighter, Puzzle Fighter and RE. Konami does have a lot of greats though

If you want to skip games like Metal Gear Solid 3, ok, but I won't lie, you're missing one of the best gaming experiences ever that can never be replaced.

I'll side with Capcom. While each side does revolutionary stuff, Konami's stuff seems to be overhyped to all hell. Silent Hill games are viewed as terrifying by the masses, but I've always felt they're only creepy games at their best moments, overanalyzed by Gamefaqs. Metal Gear Solid pretty much is the absolute form of the cinematic videogame, but every episode save the first has moments where your jaw is on the floor because somebody did something stupid. Castlevania? Had 4 classics out of about 20 games. Nothing special.
Now Capcom's a different story. Sure, Devil May Cry is dumb as hell, but Capcom pretty much invented the fighting game genre, and they kept it fresh with efforts like Rival Schools and Power Stone. Mega Man 2 was what sold me on the NES, and while they got redundant as all hell, Legends would bring on legends such as the Servbots and Tron Bonne.
Either way, a tough fight. I say Capcom, though, and I'm sticking to that.

I'm a big fan of both companies, but Konami gets the nudge because of the Parodius and Goemon series.

I've got to disagree with you there. Capcom did not invent the fighting genre. They were far from the first company to do it. However Capcom is responsible for setting the standard for all 2d Fighters. But i don't agree that they keep it fresh. Capcom makes improvements every now and then but they've also released so many versions of street fighter 2 that i can't even count them all.

Having a look at my collection....
Capcom games:
Auto Modellista (PS2)
Bionic Commando (NES)
Capcom vs. SNK EO 2 (XB)
Ghouls 'n Ghosts (SMS)
Marvel vs. Capcom (DC)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (DC)
Mega Man 3 (NES)
Mega Man X (SNES)
Power Stone (DC)
Resident Evil 2 (DC)
Street Fighter II (SNES)
Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (SMD)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (PSX)
Super Street Fighter II (GEN)
Tech Romancer (DC)
Konami games:
Axelay (SNES)
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (NES)
Gradius (NES)
Probotector (NES)
Road Fighter (NES)
Zombies (Konami)
Capcom is one of my favourite developers of all time, and a number of those games listed are favourites of mine (CvS2, MvC2, MMX, RE2, SFA3).
Aside from Axelay, Konami hasn't produced anything I'm that fond of, and as such, their games don't feature in my collection that much.

I don't know about you, man, but Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Eternal Champions, Battle Arena Toshinden. Pull the book out on one-on-one fighters, and they'll owe at least a nod to Street Fighter. I wasn't trying to argue there was never a fighter before those games, but influence pays, and if you show me a fighter that was released since Street Fighter 2 and I'll show you elements that arose care of Capcom. I'd call that inventing the genre, although at your request I'll cede that "serving as precedent to the genre" would be a better way to put it.
Street Fighter 2 has indeed had "so many versions," but in fairness, a great deal of them were warranted. Championship Edition included the bosses, which was a rather stupid oversight on the Capcom's part amended. It was argued Turbo drastically improved the performance of the game, debate that how you will. Alpha 2 added a ton of characters and is considered by some to be the best playing game in the series. Alpha 3 was the obligatory "Alright, get everyone in this game" chapter of the franchise. While Alpha 1, the Ex's, and pretty much everything having to do with 3 were a disappointment, when half of the games you've released are considered successes, you're doing a lot better than a lot of videogame franchises can say they have done.
In the meanwhile, on the side, Capcom has done a lot of stuff. Rival Schools is probably my favorite fighter, with brilliant character designs and a very passable story for a fighter. Marvel vs. Capcom was largely a videogamer/comic fan's dream come true, and the first one had old school smart alek attitude in spades. Power Stone 2 is the nigh perfect party game, easier to pick up and play than even Smash Brothers.
Looking for creative revolutions from Street Fighter is kind of like looking for great RPG stories in Final Fantasy these days. It's such a mainstream franchise that there's a very limited amount of space they can manuevere in creatively without ticking off the fanbase.

I say konami,
They have taken care of there franchise games compared to capcom ex capcoms games like street fighter and resident evil. for ex. the new street fighter annv. for xbox is awsome but a few years too late with it online extra they run their franchise into the dirt then try to resurrect it ex res evil. res evil 4 is awsome but should have came out years ago. Capcom is sorta like ea all about the money lets get them ports out.

Konami's Yie Ar Kung Fu predated all of those Capcom fighting games, although it was only one player. Still fun, though.
Anyway, prior to two years ago I would have gone with Konami, simply because it has produced more games that I like. Which is what this topic comes down to for most people, really.
Then two years ago Capcom produced Steel Battalion, and since I'm a complete SB junkie I would have flip-flopped on over to Capcom. Then a year ago Capcom released Steel Battalion: Line of Contact, which is a great game, but a game that has received absolutely horrible support from Capcom. Horrible, horrible support x_x (which I won't go into right now).
So once again, it's Konami.

both are top notch but I have to go with Konami they seem to develop/publish the most original games out of the 2.
Konami=SILENT HILL, Castlevania, MGS and some great shooters mainly Gradius.
Capcom=The best 2-D fighing games ever made (right alongside Neo-Geo and the Gulity Gear games from umm Atlus is it?) also I luv the whole RE series no matter how matter ppl bitch about the older ones and the Mega Man games (although great I think its time to retire the series and let it stand on what has been made).

Street Fighter's Importance > Anything Konami has done.
That's a bold statement. And, as a big shmup fan, I love Konami. Gradius/Salamander, Twin-Bee, Parodius, hell, Time Pilot and Gyruss. I also rank Metal Gear Solid as one of my top 10 games of all time. Not to mention Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Also, the DDR / Beatmania series cannot be denied as the new champion of the arcade.
But the Street Fighter series kept arcades going for almost 15 years after they had lost their relevance.
And no, SF didn't spawn the fighting game genre, but they made it viable and fun.
Combine that with legendary series like 194X, Mega Man, Resident Evil, multiple fighter series (Darkstalkers, Cyberbots, X-Men), the Commando-ish series (Bionic Commando, Gunsmoke, MERCs), Ghosts and Goblins, and new series like Viewtful Joe and Devil May Cry.
Clear winner to me. Capcom.

Capcom, hands down. They have brought forth unto this earth the unparalelled awesomeness of Megaman. Also, I was playing RE4 last night, and I was blown away by how freakin' great this game is!

Yes, I know!
Unfortunately I don't have enough money to support my ebay, GC, GBA, DS, and retro systems as it is. It would be impossible to get a ps2 and xbox to add on to that. I already don't buy as much as I would like for my other stuff. (I would get an Xbox before a PS2 though!)
But yeah, I do know I am missing out on alot. Maybe I will pick them up when they are on clearence isles when the new systems come out???

Had to go with Konami! I am a big Silent Hill and Suikoden fan and I like Castlevania quite a bit too.
Konami's SNES output is quite nice as well with (among others):
Axelay
Batman and Robin
Sunset Riders
Super Castlevania IV
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV &
Zombie Ate My Neighbors
Capcom has some great stuff too, but they tend milk franchises a little too much. I'd hate to pick just one though...

This was pretty tough, but I'm going with Capcom. Overall, I think they have fewer flops.
I had to go with capcom simply because of SF2 Turbo. I still play that game like it just hit the arcades.
Respectively Konami has some excellent games Metal Gear, Suikoden (fav RPG series), Contra and theres many more ... but i'm still going with capcom.
