Just recently saw this game at a local shop for $38 complete, and was wondering if it's worth it for a casual strategy/rpg fan. I like games such as Shining Force, Arc the Lad, Vanguard Bandits and FF Tactics, but I'm not really a die hard Strategy gamer.

What's the learning curve like, and how much time do you need to invest in the game? Basically is it worth it to the non-hardcore?

That's a damn good price IMHO, I used to see it go for $60 back in the day. Is it still worth that much?

Either way, that's a bit of a steal at $38 complete. You should pick it up regardless.

I own it, but I've never had a chance to sit down with it.

Its basically a re-do of the SNES Tactics Ogre. Another 3/4ths View Strategy RPG. So if you like the Vanguard Bandits, the Final Fantasy Tactics and the Disgaea's of the gaming world then yes, totally plunk down the 38 bucks. Its not a bad investment game either, one thats never been out there in huge numbers... The one i've got it one of maybe 3 ive seen in the wild, and the only one ive seen complete.

In my opinion, it's a superior game to FFTactics. So if you liked that, you should like TO.

It's a great game. I'm sure that if you don't like it, you wouldn't have any trouble selling it for more than what you paid for it (if it's in good shape and complete).

It's FREAKIN' HARD. There are a few tricks to make the game easy, but if you play normally, you're going to have a heck of a challenge. I love strategy RPGs and I've played a ton, and it was still insanely difficult for me. If you're not too crazy about strategy RPGs, you might be put off by the difficulty.

Regardless, that's a great price for it. That's what GameStop charges for it, right? I recently sold a loose, rather scratched up copy for $45 on eBay. If you're patient, you can get a nice, complete copy on eBay for 40-50, but I've also seen them get up to $90.

FF Tactics.

It's the same system as both games were made by Quest. Get it. If you liked FFT you'll love Tactics Ogre. It just you know, wont have Cloud as a secret character. :P

Not to mention $38 complete is an excellent price for it. You'd pay a lot more on ebay.

Do you know if it's the limited edition or the regular?

I think I remember a limited edition that let you get up to level 100 instead of just 50.

There was only one release of Tactics Ogre in the US. It originally came out in Japan for the Super Famicom, and it also came out on Saturn, but I know of no "limited edition". Perhaps you're thinking of Ogre Battle, which was also released in the US for PlayStation by Atlus? That was titled "limited edition" (but every copy released was), and I don't know if the game is much of any different from the SNES release. I think it came with some maps and junk, though.

So which one is the better game, Orge Battle for PlayStation or Tactics Orge for PlayStation? What about the N64 game?

Well it depends. Like Daria said, OB Tactics plays more like your typical turn based, grid style SRPG with a stronger focus on actual combat. While Ogre Battle and OB64 rely alot more on where you place your troops on the map before battle and character setup. Also note that in the Ogre Battle games that the combat really isn't up to you. It's all controlled by the computer one you enter actual combat.

I'd say yes. I just recently passed up a complete copy for 35 dollars because I didn't feel like spending that much at the time. However, when I went back with the intent of buying it, it was gone. :/ So please, PLEASE don't make the same mistake as I did and pass up on it. And hey, listen, if it's missing the manual, don't worry about it because I happien to have a extra one on hand.

Okay, you guys convinced me, I'm gonna go get it. I just hope it's still there Sunday because I won't be able to get out tomorrow to get it.
