ok this is really starting to get on my nerves. I'm trying to play Dragon Warrior 4 and the white menu text, especially in battle, is kinda blurry. It probably wouldn't bug me so much if every time Brey died the text didn't suddenly turn red and come into focus. Then the difference becomes night and day.

I have the system hooked up with AV cables because I thought it was suppose to get a better picture. Is this a normal NES problem? Is it the game?

I tried another game (DW2) and it seemed to have the same problem but wasn't nearly as bad. And what's really weird is it's not constant, certain specfic towns I enter suddenly have crisp text. It's really weird.

Is this the toaster or the toploader?

If it's the toaster, I'd try switching cables and see if that's the issue. Cheap, beaten up cables give poor results. Dirty contacts on the cables and/or the jacks give poor results.

The toploader has its own A/V issues, but I don't think they relate to blurriness. I don't have a toploader so someone else will have to comment on the toploader's issues.

Oh it's a toaster. And I tried switching a yellow cable for a red cable, and while that seemed to help temporarily it went back to being blurry shortly after.

The color of the cable is irrelevant. They're color coded to help you connect them consistently on either side without having to look back at which you had where.

Are the cables in good condition? The NES a/v circuit is pretty sturdy, rarely fails, especially since most NES units never had the a/v out used at all. Have you tried other games? Do other things plugged into that set of jacks on the TV look better?

I only mentioned the cable color to- ok I don't know why I mentioned it. I just ment "Yes I tried a new cable" But I'll go see if I can find a completely new set of AVs. :P

The cables look to be in good condition on the outside, but I wouldn't know if they had a broken wire within. So off to try a new set just to be postive.

Nevermind. And thanks for the suggestions but it's my tv's inputs that are fucked up. Game looks great on the downstairs tv. (:

Don't know why I didn't think of moving it sooner.

It's all good though, and the solution is now immortalized for future searches! 8-)

There are some slight sharpness differences between toaster models, too. At one point I had like 12 NES units that I was testing, and there were visible differences between some of them. Although, nothing severe enough to prevent playing any games.
