By "How do you play?", I basically mean do you pick one team and use the default players (so you have your favorite team's regular rosters or do you have a fantasy draft and make the best team you can? Despite the fact my team (Pittsburgh) is not a very good team, I still usually use the Pirates' regular roster. I find it hard to get into using a fantasy drafted team. I may still try that after I play one season of my new game, though.

Usually, I choose the one man on one man option. I find that if you choose the 3 men across defense, it's almost impossible to hit a home run.

I usually use the available roster, although I may tweak it to suit my fancy (ie. add Andrés Galarraga to the Expos in MVP Baseball 2004).

I never play baseball games alone anymore, not since World Series Baseball and my Batter Up on Genesis, but when I play with friends because they have talked me into playing, I always just pick a decent looking team and play with default settings. Same goes with all sports games. I just never really have felt the need to spend a few minutes switching players around.

I usually play with normal rosters, maybe a trade here or there for a couple of my favorite players.

I usually play with the regular rosters. Although, sometimes, if the certain baseball game I'm playing is a few years behind, I might make a few trades here and there to get the rosters up to date.

The last time I played a baseball game was RBI Baseball for the NES... I think I had to use the orriginal teams LOL

I'm like you Rog, I start with the regular rosters, but I do like to play out a season where "anything goes" and work on tades and player management during the simulated season. Alas, there's never enough time, and my "seasons" typically end after about 20 games :)

It's been a while since I played any baseball games, but I'm starting to get back into watching, so I was thinking about picking up one of this years games. What would be a good one to go after? I've got all three current consoles, so that's no problem. I tend to prefer an arcade-style over simulation - I just want smack the ball around a bit ;)

I'm the exact same way. I don't think I have ever completed a season in a sports game, except maybe for a football game. I still have a save-game for NHL 97 on PSX that I plan on finishing, but havent. 8 years. LOL

I also start with whatever players the team (in mty case, the SF Giants) come with, but I will try and trade people after the season starts. If you just do a fantasy draft then it doesnt feel like your team anymore because you're playing with different guys.

I remember games used to have animations where a ball was thrown back to the pitcher after each pitch...now he just magically has a ball after each pitch. It's a minor thing but I miss it. I wouldn't mind seeing them add little extras like fans catching foul balls and such.

Regarding rosters, I was playing one season in MVP 2004 where I was adding legends you unlock into my team. I was getting guys like Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Nolan Ryan, Mike Schmidt and Walter Johnson onto my team. I may do that next season I play in my MVP 2005 after my initial season. Predictably, I'm off to a poor start...2-5

I use the default players and really don't change anything unless it's needed.

But my buddy Ron,when he comes over to play me changes everything.
He'll sit there for the longest changing everything he can..

I think it's one of the reasons he beats my ass at Baseball Games most of the time... :P

In MVP Baseball 2005, you now have 4 teams (MLB, AAA, AA, A) and if you go for the fantasy draft, you then have to set four line-ups for every team. This means from the time you begin the draft, it's probably going to be about a half-hour or so before you can play your first game...

What do you mean choose players? I just use the blue team and pick stats by rolling the dice and consulting the off-screen gameboard table for batting averages. Maybe that's just me . . .

So how is MVB Baseball 2005? I've been thinking about getting a new baseball game but was'nt sure which one to get this year.

I really am enjoying it. It's very similar to MVP 2004 plus some added features where you can set prices for consessions and tickets, choose your own promotional days, etc. Still no Barry Bonds in this game...which might be a good thing depending on your point of view.

My favorite baseball game is on the Odyssey2, so I've had those same darn blocky guys playing for me for 20+ years. LOL

Only Baseball game I play is Wold Series Baseball II on Saturn... I usually play with my Brother. I'm always Mariners and He's always Orioles (spelling...) I've NEVER played a season in any Sports game... Or Home Run Derby's are always fun- Griffy vs. Palmero.

Default Teams / Line-up...

That's interesting because I've never really gotten into playing Home Run Derby. I guess different people have different interests. I enjoy playing full seasons...one reason is seeing my best players' stats gi yo,

I'm a fantasy draft kind of guy, I never played one game in World Series 2K3 with the default lineup...I like it better that way. I may pick up MVP 2005 though, I like the idea of controlling the Lansing Lugnuts...

The April 2005 issue of EGM came today and they review MVP & Major League Baseball 2K5 together...MVP gets the nod with scores of 8.5, 8.5 and 9.0. 2K5 (or ESPN or whatever you want to call it) got straight 8.0s from all 3 critics. So, while MVP gets better scores, it's very close and your choice may be a matter of preference. I'm happy with my MVP 2005...
