Other collectors?
People discovered some sealed games in the wild?
Maybe some sealed games were found in storage?
But, Nintendo producing more games? lol, no.

I seriously doubt it
the ones on ebay are either reseals or I guess from peoples collections, or maybe from old computer shops closing down, finding them in the back room or something
I dunno
but I doubt Nintendo is producing new NES Games

yup, they actually have been... they found more stock in their warehouse, and started producing more... so they will become more common, and the values will go down

They come from Nintendo Trees.
I planted a sealed Stack Up in the yard; watch for a flood of sealed Stack Up carts on ebay in the late spring.

Once it becomes well known that sealed games are worth crazy money, there becomes a significant incentive for people other than collectors to put a lot of effort into finding sealed games, and investigating places that they might find them in order to make themselves a bit of cash.
Equation:
P = L x E
Where L = no. of people looking for sealed games and
E = no. of sealed games in circulation (i.e. not permanently residing in a collection)
The higher P gets, the more sealed games you will see on ebay. Previously L was fairly low (just videogame collectors). E will continue to get lower and lower as more games are found and sold.
However the recent rise in P is due to the fact that the value of L (lookers) has been increasing at a much greater rate than E has been decreasing.
Once the rate of increase of L ceases to be greater than the rate of decrease of E then the number of sealed games appearing on ebay will decrease again.

Whoops. Sorry, didn't read the original post closely enough.
Nintindo never stopped producing cartridges.

"Sir, I've just received notice that a group of 'collectors' really want us to manufacture brand new copies of software that was obsolete and unprofitable ten or more years ago."
"Good god man, start the NES Cart Manufacturing Machine(tm) pronto!"
"But sir, each game requires a print run of at least five thousand, and I don't think that..."
"PRONTO!"
"Sir, we'll be losing a substantial amount of..."
"DAMMIT BOY!"
"But sir, what about the old promotional material? The outdated advertisements for Nintendo Power? The registration cards we haven't accepted in years?"
"Those too! GO GO GOOOO! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE NINTENDO MACHINE HOORAY!!!!"
God, did you even THINK before you made this thread?

Unfortunately I picked the wrong game, and planted a SMB/DH tree 20 years ago. Stupid tree.

LOL
grizzly: Because it's not worth the immense costs of setting up manufacturing for a run of only a few hundred carts, not to mention that as soon as collectors found out they were reprints, they'd be worthless anyway.

I find this sometimes with certain games - Ie, games which were once considered rare, like Monster Rancher or Erhgeiz on the PSone. Suddenly, out of nowhere, loads seemed to appear as if by magic, leading to the price dropping drasticly!
People just tend to hide them away and forget about them.
And I am still convinced that somewhere there is a warehouse full of sealed Banjo Tooie's, Conker's, and Paper Mario's just sitting there, waiting...
But I agree with what was written above - Either they are from private collector's who need a bit of cash, or they are resealed. It isn't too hard to reseal a NES game and make it convincing enough to sell on eBay, and it's not like NOA make it hard for people to do that, unlike NOE who make sure all their games have Nintendo tear strips removing all doubt whether or not a game is original or resealed.

I think that some of us have played a bit too much Animal Crossing in the past... :D
But seriously, what do you think is the percentage of true factory-sealed NES games vs. resealed games? It's pretty easy to use a shrinkwrap machine. Although it usually doesn't give the same result as a true-blue factory-sealed NES game, it can still fool someone who doesn't know the difference.
This said, I did find in the wild, 2 years ago, a factory-sealed copy (with the original Canadian Tire price tag) of Smash TV for the NES...

Okay, maybe I should have used one of these ;) to save myself some humilation and I really cannot spell. Remember back when NES was the
only game in town with 90% of the market. Games would sell thru print runs. I cannot fathom there being that much old stock lying around, especially the early stuff, what with the high cost of producing carts.

The reason why they go for insane prices is because they are very rare.
If Nintendo started to produce the games again they wouldnt be rare and the price will be normal.
And i seriously doubt that they will start to produce old NES games again. There arent a big enough marked for it. Most kids today think that everything below Gamecube sux because of the "bad" gfx and sound :\

No way in hell at all! That's as crazy as me saying I just saw a UFO, or would you believe I have been to the moon?
Seriously though, Nintendo made millions of copies of some games, so the chances of some not getting opened is there. I mean the games are only like 15-20 years old. There is a game store around me that still had a BUNCH of sealed NES + SNES games just 2 years ago. (I cleaned them out though!) So they aren't there anymore.

I used to post all the time over at the NES board on gameFAQs back when it was full of knowledgeable people, not a bunch of retro-crazed teens.
Now I visit every once in a while, and everyime I go, there's a topic on there stating that "Nintendo should make NES games again".
Silliest thing in the world I tell you. LOL

Nintendo saw the INSANE prices sealed games are getting on Ebay right now and realized that NES games have a higher profit margin than anything else they currently sell. So, YES! NOA is indeed producing sealed NES carts and making MAD CASH on them!! :D

Really? The last NES games I found new in the wild was way back in 2000. A local K-B-Toys had some copies of Startropics, still factory sealed. I bought one cause it was like $2.99, but I opened it to play on my NES. Well, I doubt that game is worth much. LOL

Yeah, I have had great luck at Kay-Bee stores, as well as certain TRU's.

Anyway, back on subject:
I don't think Nintendo is making NES games again.. It's just luck that some games didn't sell well, Then Nintendo got them back and stored them for ten more years, Then they were sold on Ebay to collectors.

To answer grizzlys question, the reason Nintendo wouldn't remake NES carts is because it's not profitable. Sure, some sealed NES games are going for over 600 dollars, but how many people are there willing to pay 600 dollars or even 50 dollars for a sealed NES game? not very many. It's more profitable selling 1 million copes of RE4 at 50 dollars.

Because by the time you professionally manufacture an exact replica of an original circuit board, put in an order for ROMs that haven't been in production in years, burnt them with very professional and costly equipment, have them soldered by machine, somehow make a reproduction box with absolutely no color loss and, in the case of Bubble Bath Babes, create an entire cart shell moulding, you'd probably be out at least $15k.

And by the time you made back 1/10 of that money, everyone would be on to you. Not to mention that, no matter WHAT, there will be a flaw in your game, and somebody's going to find it.
