Hello All,

So nice to find a community of gamers that enjoy collecting and playing. My name is Dana and I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. USA.
I truly enjoy every aspect of gaming whether it be console or PC...just can't get enough of them. I found this site while I was searching on Google. I was searching for "how to open a video game retail store". I didn't come across anything at all...even though I have been searching for quite some time. What I'm really looking for is a supplier, I'm interested in opening my own retail location to sell all console games as well as PC games. Does anyone here have a hint of how to go about finding a supplier? I have the location and I think I have enough financial help to get started. Well, just wanted to introduce myself and let everyone know what my interest in gaming is all about. If anyone has any ideas at all about finding a cheap supplier then please send me an email at avidgamer@sc.rr.com

Thanks for all the help!!

Welcome Dana! :)

Wow...high aspirations. The main thing you have to remember about opening a retail game store...especially one that deals in new product, is that the wholesale you get offered will probably be HIGHER than the retail of a store like Wal-Mart. That's why so few smaller stores carry new games. It's not cost effective. Finding a distributor can be a pain too. My small town game store had a couple..but he only got them thru video rental store conacts. Talk to the local video rental stores and see if you can get the names of some distributors. You may have ti sign a contract with them not to offer game or movies for rent, but sometimes that's the only way to go. You'll find that 99% of your profit is in used games anyway :) Good luck either way!

I haven't checdked the web site but I know you could try one thing for getting supply cheaper: co-op. Find a few other people who runs or are going to run independent video game store and band together. By ordering a bulk of games in one order, the cost per game is greatly reduced.

Of course it's more then getting cheap games, you would need to be familiar in business practice (schooling would help a lot), have a signifiant sum of money for starting, know what things will cost including rent/lease and utilities and etc.

hey, nice to see someone from S.C>(and Myrtle Beach at that) posting here. (I am from S.C, beautiful place, wish I still lived there)

I got a quick question for ya, how come you want to do New games? I would leave that up to Wal-Mart and such, and go after the used stuff, that is where the money is at, as stated in above posts, just curious. Anyhow, have a good one in, at least you are still in the good graces of great weather.

Hey Spoon,

I'm sure you must miss Myrtle Beach-It sure is nice being able to wear a light sweater on Christmas Eve. I would definately sell the older and used games in my store, but I honestly believe that if I'm going to have a game store then it also needs to encompass new games as well. Any other thoughts on this? Even if I could make $10 per sale on a new game that would be great. I was also thinking about having some high speed computers set up for Lan parties in the store.
