i have a turbo cd with no original power supply.

i am trying to use a radioshack universal supply

the unit will not power up - i was asured that it works

before i say that its not working - id like to find a few things out

--- is the device finikey when it comes to powersupplies?
--- should the unit power up when the switch on the core system and the base unit are switched to on?
--- is there a third button that needs to be pressed to turn on the cd unit?
--- can the cd unit be powerup by being taken out of the base unit and directly plugged in to the power supply?
--- any tricks i should try?

Well, the Turbo is very finicky about AC adapter tips. Big hole on the barrel. that's the first thing I'd wonder about.

The CD unit can be removed from the base and used separately, as a CD player.... you can use the PS from the TG16 unit for that.

Here's what you need to do to get the TGCD setup working:

1.Insert the CD drive into the base.. move the lock switch into place.

2. Insert the TG16 into the base and move the lock into place (on the bottom of the base)

3. Connect the AV cables or RF to the TV

4. Connect the power supply.

5. Put the CD system card into the Hucard slot.

6. Put a CD game into the drive.

7. Flip the switches at the front of the unit into the "on" position.

8. Now you should see the led readout on the CD drive light up.

If you do not have the right PS, you will not be able to power it up. It takes a lot of amps versus most of the universals that are out there and the CD system will just burn right through those things...

Thanks for the detailed instuction

when you are trying out the cd unit on its own - is it suposed to just power up once you plug it in? i dont see an on button and the unit is not powering up with the tg16 supply

From what I recall, if you have an audio CD in the drive, it will light up the led when you press play.

finaly it worked - took some coaxing but atleast i know that part of the unit works and the tg16 - now i need to figure out if the base works

I had the same problem because the ps that came with my cd player was broken. I cracked it open and resoldered a resister that had come loose from the board. Do you have a ps or did you get the cd without one? Honestly I looked for 3 months for a replacement before I fixed the old ps and had no luck. I haven't heard of any verified examples of aftermarket ac adapters working with the tgcd but if you can figure it out let me know.

i certainly will post it - one worry i have is messing up the system trying diferent supplies -- i would expect the Vregs the handel anything that comes along at least for a min (which is long enough) - but im not sure if that will hold true if you reverse the polarity

and i got the system with no supply
