Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Multiple)

The title of the game may seem decieving because it is so silly, but underneath lies one hell of a fun action shoot em up. For those of you that do not know this is an overhrad view action game that pits you in all of your favorite horror movie scenarios, from a shopping mall with wicked little dolls, to draculas castle itself. The levels are very very varied, and you get a huge arsenal of different ond goofy weapons such as popsickle sticks to a weedwhacker.
The game is LONG, and is not easily beaten in one sitting. A grfeat way to approach the game is through the games co-op mode, which I have had countless hours of enjoyment with playing with family members and my dad (he loves this game!)

Overall a VERY fun and satisfying game, its not rare or expensive, so by all means if you own a genesis or snes do yourself a favor and pick this game up!

Did you know?
The zombies on the cover are actual zombiew scans from the film Night of the living dead!

I love Zombies Ate My Neighbors...it's probably on my Top 10 of All-Time SNES favorites. This game uses a password system rather than a battery so you can look it up without fear it'll die on you. It's funny as well as being an exciting game. Back when my friends played video games (a very brief period that lasted maybe a year or two), this one game we had fun with. I'll still play it even though co-op play makes it even more fun.

I like the game but really don't think it deserved some of the reviews it got. I think EGM gave it 9's which is too high.

Oh, I love this game so much!!

I used to play the Genesis version back in the day. I recently acquired a brand new copy of it for the SNES, and just opened it yesterday. I planned on playing the snes version today. I still am looking for the genesis version when I go game hunting.

Can someone answer this: Is there any difference in the Genesis version from the SNES version??

I love this game, but only with 2 players...It kinda sucks 1-player. What other game has you attacked by a giant baby? None, dammit! Buy this game right now if you haven't already!

I love this game so much...it's a shame they never did more w/ it or made a series out of it.

Well, there was a "sort of" sequel to it, "Ghoul Patrol" I think it was called, but it wasn't nearly as good as Zombies. :rockets:

This game rocks! I have the SNES version and I love it. I find the music to be very catchy in my opinion, and the insanity of some of the things you see is hilarious. I love leaving behind a blow up clown dummy as distraction for the homocidal maniacs or the little evil dolls. The giant baby takes the cake and the UFO attacking in the middle of the football field will always have a place among my video game memories.

This is one of my favorite games. It does take forever to beat in one sitting, but that's actually the easiest way to beat it, because if you use a password you have to start out with the default weapons and no extra lives.

Yes, and I'm glad you asked. The SNES version is full screen.. it doesn't have the statusbar on the side like in the Genesis version. Some people like this, but I dislike it because the radar gets in the way of gameplay. You can turn the radar on and off with a button press, however. Also, the SNES version has better music quality... I actually prefer the Genesis tunes to the SNES, however. Some raster effects from the Genesis version are missing in the SNES version, such as the effect that happens when you hit one of the giant babies.

yea this game is awesome, one of the most underated games ever i think. definetly one of the best 2 player games too. a little side note, if you pressed L or R on the lucasarts screen you could hear a dog bark or something, though i think this might have worked with most snes lucasarts games? i still need to beat this game, my sister and i actually played through the whole game till the last level and my snes crashed and we never got to complete, im still pretty bummed about that.

Great game, bought it brand new for the Genesis. Spent a couple years playing the hell out of it but could never beat it. Then one day, I let a friend borrow it... he moved and so did the game. I have yet to see a loose copy of the game for either the SNES or the Genesis in the wild

Thanks. I can't remember the Genesis version very well, even though I played it to death for about 3 years in a row.
I just got done playing the SNES version. I reached level 20 in about an hour or more. Haven't played the game in so long, don't remember being this AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got this game Christmas 1993 and it has been one of my favorites ever since. So quirky and funny with each level being a parody of a horror movie. A classic in my mind.

Yes, it's this kind of quirkiness and craziness and weirdness that I love the game so much. I have never played anything like it.

BUMP! I was going to make a topic of this, but I thought I'd utilize the Search engine for once. LOL

ZAMN is one awesome game. I don't know what the allure of it is... the cheesy/campy B-movie feel to it? The huge load of weapons and items you have at your disposal? The plethora of enemies ripped from almost every horror movie genre there is? The forty-eight plus levels and the secrets packed into each and every one? I really don't know what to say, other than the innovation of this game is brimming at the edges of the cart.

I will say this, though... HARD. I don't think I could beat this game all in one sitting. If I don't lose all my lives first (more than likely to those FREAKING GIANT ANTS, them I hate), then all ten victims will die. That's a question I have: Is there any easy way to prevent random civilian deaths? Granted, each stage goes faster with only one person to save, but that's too risky.

I've also played Ghoul Patrol, and while it can't match up to ZAMN, and I thought it was mediocre when I first played it, it began to grew on me. The more serious feel can be a bit off-putting at first, but I recommend giving it more than a play. Besides, getting to transform into an invincible Grim Reaper is rather bitching.

Hmm...for some reason I always thought of "Commander Keen Episode VI: Aliens Ate My Babysitter!" when I saw this game. No surprise, as it's an American-made game, and it is similar to old Apogee games though (maybe, haven't played it, Halloween Harry?) - lots of powerups and a score-based arcade game feel (as seen in Apogee games, that is). The Genesis version seems pretty good so far (I'm to the third stage, Terror in Aisle Five). Not amazing, but quite different from what I'd expected.

Also a classic favorite game of mine. It also features an "ad" for day of the tentacle, in the form of a hidden level. There's lots of fun hidden levels in this game, like the talk to the programmers level, ect.

This image is a big box of what the hell but I'm posting it anyway. I am not entirely sure why I ever have this on my drive but i saw it the other day and this thread is here and therefore...here ya go.

i love this game. it's pretty hard as well. i got stuck on that one stage where you have to kill those sand monsters to get the key. i didn't have the firepower to kill one of them and i had to start over. i did eventually finish the game though.

That's kind of funny...but it'd be funnier if it were Mike Tyson instead of Shaq.

Zombies may well be in my top ten of SNES games and I definitely will be playing it the next time my SNES is hooked up.

is it a TRUE sequel?

Yep, it appears so. You can find screenshots on google image search. Here's some info from some website (there's not much out there, it doesn't seem to have a US release).

"Ghoul Patrol was released a year after Zombies Ate My Neighbors and, as I said, is a lot like the original. There are a couple of differences that are definitely worth noting. The biggest ones being the graphics, which are much better, and a slight variation in the story. In this one, Zeke and Julia get together to stop a demon from using and army of ghosts, goblins, and (of course) ghouls to take over the world. The arsenal was beefed up a little for this one. Now you get everything from plasma rifles to suction cup arrows and you run around collection rubber chicken power-ups.

What I think is the most important thing to note about Ghoul Patrol is the fact that it’s not really important at all. You see, while Zombies Ate My Neighbors gathered a cult following still alive to this day, its sequel did not. I think the reason for that is the same reason a lot of people criticize the game. Namely, its campy B-Movie theme. Ghoul Patrol didn’t have that, and so it’s been mostly forgotten. Konami and JVC tried to take something appreciated for its silliness and turn it into something serious. That wasn’t their big mistake, though. The big mistake was trying to make a sequel at all, because even if it had been in the same style, it still probably would have failed. It might’ve even killed the fun and originality of the first game. Zombies Ate My Neighbors was a game that lived and died based on it’s premise. It’s one that can’t, and probably shouldn’t be duplicated.

In the end, what can I recommend about this game? Well, since it’s been years since its release and you can now pick up SNES games for $2.00 per, I say go for it. You can’t go wrong with a classic. Just remember what you’re buying... A game that has two children using squirt guns to kill zombies, Popsicles to freeze Jason, and six-packs to foil giant mutant babies. Still want it? Good!"

I only ever wanted to finish this game once, with two players. While it IS fun, there are just an insane amount of levels to plow through, and it gets slightly tedious.
