I just tried playing my Sega Nomad again for the first time in a few years. Man is this system ever a piece of crap. Its massive in size, sucks batteries like no tomorrow and the screen is just horrible. I can barely play fast games like sonic the screen blurs so bad. The D-Pad is also bad, I find it hard to do dragon punches in Street Fighter and dekes in NHL Hockey.

I do remember loving this system when I first got it but it really hasnt aged well. Give me a pocket pc with some roms anyday.

I love my Nomad of course I also have an AC adapter so I don't have to worry about the battery issue.

I havnt tried Nomad yet, but if its as bad as the gamegear i might not buy it (unless its realy cheap)
I recived my Gamegear yesterday and i didnt knew it was this bad. Games are blurry, bad angle on the screen, and it uses 6 AA batteries! Good sound on it tho.

Word, I used to plug the AC adaptor into mine and use it as a quasi-boombox. The ladies can't resist the leet Sonic Chaos chiptuneage. 8-)

Whats with all the negative people. Atari 2600 sucks, INTV sucks, Saturn sucks, etc..

You know what sucks, people who have to complain about a DEAD product of yester-year..

I'll see your George Foreman Grill and raise you a Car-B-Q. But wait, there's more! I'll throw in a bottle of Orange Clean.

wow. I'm agreeing with Raedon.

Now, not everyone's going to love every system, but I've rarely and i do mean rarely seen hate on a nomad. If you're having screen issues, have you used the contrast dial? It's on the bottom left. Works wonders.

Battery life - that's a valid complaint. It's a battery hoover.

I have the orginal box and all the stuff that came with the box (manuals and such). The unit itself is in pretty good shape but the screen is scuffed. I see replacement screens on ebay all the time. I would consider a trade for boxed coleco vision items.

I guess it be much cheaper to buy a nomad instead of building your own. You need proper tools, time and skills.

He used his Gamegear as a music player. Just plugged in the AC adapter (instead of wasting batteries), started Sonic and listened to the music :)

nomad is a great handheld gaming system, and the ability to plug a controller into it for 2 player is awsome! great for long car rides too....the screen to me is bright and vivid, I love it.

A few comments on the Nomad.

You're right about a few things. The screen does blur pretty easily, and it IS big, and it DOES eat batteries.

But consider this: you can plug the thing into any TV and you have a fully functional Genesis (it WAS my Genesis for a few years there). Also, there are plenty of games that don't move so quickly as to cause that nasty blurring. You have to stay away from the Sonics and most sports games but there's plenty more that you can play in the system's 700+ library.

It's retro. Handhelds have come a long way. You can't hate it - you can only say that it hasn't stood the test of time. Looking back, it was a great handheld - the ability to play Genny games anytime anywhere is good enough reason for me to hang onto mine.

You hit the nail on the head, I like it for the relaxed games too, it's a darn shame mine freezes easily
