Kind of minor and won't affect most of us, unless we have small kids, but I have'nt seen this mentioned here yet:

I hadn't heard about that...
I'm not liking the "E10+" name, but whatever. I of course don't know of anything better though :P.
I guess it's just too close to "EC" (Early Childhood) or something, and somehow gives the picture (to me) as too "kiddie"-like for something between E and T. But whatever. I really don't care, and like I said, I can't think of anything better...
I'm glad that they did put something between E and T though.

This is good, I look at it as the equivalent of PG for movies, I mean E is to G and T is to PG-13, so why not something in the middle? Parents should be well-informed.

Should have been M10+... at least that would be the end of people downplaying the E rating (which stands for Everyone, not little people)

Neither do I but we dont get paid to come up with the names. :) Yeah that name is retarded but I am glad they did it. I dont view any of this as censorship, Im glad there is someone out there who will do the research for me...when I become a parent, itll make it easier for me to know when to say "no".

Strange. Seems pretty unnecessary to me. Why add a new rating that is only three years younger than the Teen rating? Sure, kids change a lot in those preteen years, but I don't really think there's much that a 12 year old can handle that a 9 year old can't.
I've watched my sister-in-law grow from 7 to 11, and I haven't seen a single E rated game that I wouldn't think is okay for her (even when she was 7). Likewise, I don't think she's really ready for Teen games. We play even Mature rated games while she's around (Resident Evil and Silent Hill and such), but she knows not to watch or pay any attention.

i thought that was T was for anyway. we all know that kids pretend to be older than they actually are... M rated games appeal to 13 year olds more than to me

I also see no real need for this. Is the content in some E games enough to warrent this? I have not seen any E game ever that a 8 year old shouldn't play.

"MO: The "Mature" rating is all this game has going for it."

The ESRB ratings always look ugly on our game cases. Oh well, the progressives are already gearing up to oust Joe Lieberman in '06. :D

good. now maybe games like the incredibles and starfox adventures won't get slapped with a teen rating for something as innocuous as fantasy violence.
seriously, when a game based on a PG-rated movie gets a teen rating, something is kinda fucked with the system.

Finally! Always thought the ESRB should have a PG or Y7. There are many games in the gray area between E and T. Anyway:

Agreed. Another thing is that The Matrix got a T while the movie was R. Which point is more fucked up? You decide!

Atleast somebody realizes that. I was beginning to lose faith.

Huh. Maybe they're trying to curb that whole "That game rules 'cause it makes me look older when I tell people I play it!" syndrome by making the differences so miniscule that it doesn't matter...
Hopefully this will help put a bit of consistancy and sense into some of the ratings. Why exactly is Gradius 3 & 4 rated E, but Gradius 5 rated T? Is there really such an amazing difference between "Mild Animated Violence" and "Mild Fantasy Violence"? Hell, R-Type Final has "Fantasy Violence" (not "mild", either) and it's still got an E rating.
