I'm interested in trying out the best software that the PC Engine has to offer for both the CD and Hu cards. Initially I'm going to have to just try the roms and stuff to see if I really, really like the game, these TG-16 and PC Engine games are too damn freaking expensive, you better well know that it's a game you truly want.

The games I'm most interested in are the ones that are exclusive to the PC Engine or PC Engine CD. 2D Action type games are my favorite. 2D horizontal shooters are the shit as well. And I can get with the vertical ones too. Not really into the RPG's unless they are action RPG's. Stuff like Dungeon Explorer and Neutopia and Zelda type action RGP's. Basically, I love 2D action type games, the platformers, action/adventure type games, and all the shooters and action rpgs and stuff like that. Not really into puzzle games too much. I'm cool with peeping out some of the fighters too. Streets of Rage type games are ok. I love sports, and I know the PC Engine had some great baseball games. Did they ever have an CD baseball games?

Basically, I'm just trying to figure out what the cream of the crop is, in regards to the best PC Engine Hu cards and CD games.

Sorry if the lists are too large but I like a lot and it's hard to narrow down.

Card

Bonk series AKA PC Genjin(Platform)
Blazing Lazers AKA Gunhed(Shooter)
Alien/Devil's Crush(Pinball)
Aeroblasters(Shooter) It's also on Genesis but I prefer this version.
Son Son 2(Platform/Adventure)
Chew Man Fu AKA Beball(Action/Puzzle)
Ninja Spirit(Platform)
Neutopia series(ARPG)
Super Star Soldier/Final Soldier(Shooter)
Soldier Blade(Shooter)
Air Zonk(Shooter)
Don Doko Don(Platform)
Coryoon(Shooter)
Download(Shooter)
Liquid Kids(Platform) The Saturn port might be better but I haven't played it.
Military Madness AKA Nectaris(Strategy)
Legendary Axe series

CD

Dracula X(Platform)
Gate of Thunder(Shooter)
Lords of Thunder(Shooter)
Star Parodier(Shooter)
Ys Book I & II(ARPG) I'm not really into them but a lot of people are.
Spriggan(Shooter)
Exile series(ARPG)
Forgotten Worlds(Shooter) Also on Genesis but I remember this being better in some ways.
Valis III/IV(Platform) Better than the Genesis/SNES ones
R-Type Complete CD(Shooter)

Some CDs I have yet to play that are considered good: Shubibinman 3, Sylphia, Psychic Storm. There are CD baseball games; the Pro Yakyuu series looks good. It's good on card and if you have played Namco's baseball on other consoles you should like it. The card World Class Baseball(domestic name) is also good.

Sapphire... quite possibly the holy grail of all shooters.

Gates of Thunder / Lords of Thunder are also great shooters.

Dracula X is, IMO, the best 16 bit game out there. I don't even know there's a close second.

Toilet Kids. That game ROCKS.
Photograph Boy also rocks.
World Court Tennis has the only real Tennis RPG in all of gaming.

Dungeon Explorer 1/2. There are so many great games on the TG/PCE, you can almost never go wrong.

Red Alert is the most unintentionally funny game in existance.

I'll second Neutopia. It's a complete ripoff of the first Zelda in almost every way, but I think it's actually a better game. The music is wonderful, too.

yeah yeah yeah...same ol answers...dude....if you want some good PC-Engine exclusives, here is what you need.

PC Engine shooters (Super CD-ROM):
1. Nexzr - (OR Anything Summer Carnival related) - Amazing visuals and super fast shooting fun.
2. L-Dis cheap yet cute little shooter
3. Sapphire - I have it and it's FREAKIN awesome, but expect to shell out $300+ for it
4. Rayxanber III - a superb shooter that isn't quite as frustrating as the 2nd one.
5. Fray - This can go either way...as a shooter or more of an intense Action/RPG. No japanese really is needed to play this.
6. Mystic Formula - one word...FUN

PC Engine Action (Super CD-Rom):
1. Double Dragon II - Not really exclusive, but the best port of the game BAR NONE!
2. Ane-San - A FUGLY girl beatem-up quite good.
3. Renny Blaster - A suckier version of Dracula X, and since Dracula X was such a SUPERB game, this game aint half that bad if you give it a chance, THAT IS, if you CAN FIND IT. Probably the hardest to find after Sapphire and on the same price range.
4 Flash Hiders - A combo fun 2D fighter with RPG elements.
5. Moonlight Lady - Another cute Action/RPG type. Very little japanese is required.
6. Kaze Kiri - A FANTASTIC 2D action game. quite hard to find...although I do have one on ebay right now (shameless plug)
7. Faussete Amour - Another rare 2D plaformer that follows the same formula of Cute & Fun.

PC Engine Shooters (Hu-Cards)---I'm not a big Hu-card PC engine fan...so as far as games go...I can recommend
1. Coryoon - another rare yet Cute shooter.

AND THERE ARE A WHOLE SLEW MORE....just check out some sites with reviews and you can get most of the Hu-Card emulated stuff online, as for the Super Cd-Rom stuff though, you either gotta take a chance and buy it or get more info from people who have the games..like myself.

Hope this helps...

Take Care :D

I know this game is mentioned in every thread like this (it's been mentioned in this one, in fact) but I can't stress enough to snag Ys Book I & II. It's not tough to come by, won't cost an arm and a leg, and is one of the best games the system has to offer. Some of the best music I've ever heard in a game, and simple, yet addictive action RPG oriented gameplay.

6. Kaze Kiri - A FANTASTIC 2D action game.
This game came so close to being a ninja classic like Shinobi or Ninja Gaiden but just missed the mark for me. I still like it and the style is awesome.

One of the most overlooked shooters in my opinion is Data East's Override.
I guess it's because it's always snowed under by the more wellknown favourites such as the Star Soldier series, Coryoon, Sapphire etc.
The game's got some amazing weaponry combined with some great level design. It can get quite frantic and the final FINAL boss is almost impossible to beat (have yet to succeed).
Check out: http://www.retrobase.de/pages/show.php?platform=nec_pc_engine&title=Override

It's got gorgeous cover art too, so well worth tracking down!
