My girfriend and I are moving at the end of the month to a nicer more central location in town.
HOWEVER, I will be 4 miinutes from a Salvation Amry (that I will have to pass EVERY day). 10 Minutes from Value Village, 6 minutes from Microplay and 8 minutes from Traders. So, assuming I don't spend a massive ammount of time at each I can visit 4 stores in an hour.
Three of them have to be passed to and from school, and one has to be passed if I go anywhere. Granted the salvation army one has never ever had anything and I stopped going there, but when you pass by it every day, who knows?
Anyways, anyone one in a similar situation?
Does it turn out to be a blessing, or a curse?

Any location that gives you possibilities is a blessing. A friend of mine found a 3d0 and 20 games for 60 at value village. I check my store everyday The joy comes when you get that one rare item that makes it all worthwhile.

Damn, no value villages in the mid-atlantic. That's just piss-poor.

The thing is, these stores could yield treasure at any moment. That's the addiction. Just because you don't find anything at one of those stores for a year doesn't mean that the next day there won't be a bunch of R10 games there waiting for you. You never know!
I think I'd have to stop at every one every day!

I pass by a Salvation Army and a GameStop everyday I go to school. However, since I have to walk over a mile to the bus stop and the bus rides take about 2 hours, I'm pertually running late and don't have the time or energy to make unnecessary stops. Plus the Salvation Army stinks like death (and this coming from someone who has grown a tolerance for most stinky thrift stores). I used to stop at the GameStop all the time when I wasn't on my way to school, though. I spent tons of money when they still had lots of NES, SNES, and Genesis carts for sale.

I usually have to drive 20 miles out of my way to hit up any thrift stores.
There are none in my town. No goodwill. No salvation army!
No Gold Exchange!
By the way, ^ the Gold Exchange is my secret game stash :D Awsome selection! i wouldnt go in there for a year because I thought it was a jewelry store or something. The one in Red Bluff rules, fellow Californians!

i live really close to the warehouse of www.chipsbits.com. they have a good selection of games but they just hae new ones so i know that there will not be anything new there. if i need something i'll drop by and get it though, i don't have to pay shipping! ^.^ hopefully when i am old enough i can get a job there... :)
There is a Gamestop within walking distance of the office where I work and I often spend money on something I normally wouldn't buy just because I'm bored at work so I think "I'll go buy a game".

Well my town just got a gamestop so I usually buy cheap or rare PSX games when they have a buy two get one free sale. There is also a few pawn shops and a Goodwill here but I rarely find anything. So I usually drive about an hour or so to do any good hunting.

I usually hit the stores in my area once a week... I used to go more often, but I just found it really wasn't worth the effort.

None for me either. Only GameStops. I don't even have this Gold Exchange thing. There is a pawn shop, but it's crappy. Barely any games.

Within walking distance of my house is a GameStop, a Game Crazy, a couple pawn shops, a Goodwill, and a Value Village. While I check out these stores on a regular basis, there are other stores that I've spent more money at that I have to take a bus or two to get to (I don't have a car). The convience is pretty nice, though.

I don't have one in the neighbourhood, although the flea is always on sunday next to my home (2 min. walk),in town we have 2 gameshops who only sell next gen stuff so no luck for me with them.I always have to check Ebay or 2nd hand sites, sometimes i trade some stuff with others.
But if i had 4 interesting places to go without going to far from home i would look every day just to be sure.

Well, I live in a small town. Only has a 2.5 mile radius if that. (And that includes the suburbs!)
But then, we only have three dedicated game shops (Two of which are EB), so there isn't much milage in it really.
We also have the usual high street stores, and one or two pawn shops on the roads leading out of town, but that's pretty much it really.
Walking from mine (The outskirts of the town) takes about 10 - 15 minutes. I usually take my mountain bike though, and it only takes me about 5 mins to get into town. And it's really such a short distance you wouldn't justify paying over £1 to catch a bus.

The closest store to me is a Salvation Army Store across the road. Picked up a few things there, though nothing major.
After that, I have about 15 Cash Converters, Good Samaritan and Salvation Army all within 20 mins drive or less.
Oh, plus a couple EB's in that radius too.

On my way to work I pass a Cash Converter store everyday. It is very usefull and I've bought a lot of good stuff from it (a used X-Box and a used Satun and several games for nearly all systems I own). But it also is a money eater since I go in there nearly every day...

Game stores are close to me, not walking but a 10-15 minute bus ride to the mall.
But anyway, most the time I go in and browse and see if there's anything I'll want to pick up at some point for gaming or collecting. Now with my sweet discount at FYE I'm getting games there. :)

Whether or not you're walking this sounds like a good setup for thrift hunting. My three best thrifts are all located on one major thoroughfare (the same side of the street, too) and spaced about five minutes of driving time apart. I can hit them all on a lunch hour, and I do this 1 or 2 times a week.
From experiences as a thrift store hound, I wouldn't go every single day. You're bound to experience burnout if you do. Also I will impart Pantechnicon's Salvage Maxim which states that the best time to go to a thrift is the middle of the week - Tuesday or Wednesday. Garage sales are for weekends, and thrift stores are for weekdays.
Good hunting.
