Let me re-frase that question. I know what the Konami code is, but when it is done in Gradius III on the SNES it blows up your ship. I seem to remember that there was some variation of the code for this game. Anyone remember what it is?
Thanks

That would be Up, Up, Down, Down, (The shoulder) L, (The shoulder) R, (The shoulder) L, (The shoulder) R, B, A
That should do it!

Thank you very much for the super quick reply. So it would appear that the LRLR part has simply been moved to the shoulder buttons. I think it is very funny that the original code on the directioal pad causes your ship to explode. Like the programmers are laughing at you!

That's absolutely hillarious. There's actually a Indie Rock band by that name too (up up down down etc....) - really.
I have always wondered, does this code exist in EVERY Konami game to date? I can't imagine that it does.
More specifically, is it in Snatcher or the MGS series?

I think one of the funniest moments in my life was when I was talking to a co-worker of mine, and the subject of old Nintendo games came up for some reason. I was wearing that code shirt (I got it for Christmas), with this kind of thin button-up thing over it.
At one point he's talking about Contra, and he's like, "Man, do you still remember the code?"
"Remember?!" I rip open my overshirt, revealing the code on my chest. "Bitch, I'm WEARING that code!"

Hah! I have a shirt that says "The Code: "
And then lists the code. That shirt rules. I like explaining it to folks who don't know what it is. I basically explain that it's the most famous VG cheat code in history, blah, blah, blah.
I give major props to the folks that call it "the Konami code" right off the bat when seeing my shirt rather than the more common response: "the Contra code."
It is not in every Konami gamke by far. I believe the first game to use it was Gradius, then Contra, then LifeForce, then (backwards) Gyruss, then Gradius III (SNES, with a var. to the code mentioned above).
There were plenty of Konami games from the early days that didn't use it: Rush N Attack, Double Dribble, Stinger, Castlevania, etc, etc.

I don't remember the title of the SNES game, but some action/RPG game by Konami actually had you go into a store where a shopkeeper said,
"If you enter the code: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, Start...
Nothing will happen!"
I thought it was cute.

There's an episode of Invader Zim where they say the code. (Except they say 'A,B,B,A start' instead of 'B,A start'). According to the commentary, they showed it at a convention and people started cheering.

The Code has kind of fallen out of use in recent years, but some recent games that DID use it were Gradius Galaxies for the GBA, Konami Arcade Advance for the GBA, and Gradius V for the PS2.

I think the TMNT game for GC/PS2/Xbox uses it as well, although IIRC all it does is make your footsteps sound funny in the game. Kinda lame, but at least they put it in there.

If you tried the code in the Parodius games, all you get is a text balloon with "OH MY GOD!!!" in it.

I think you mean blown up. ;)
And it works a little differnt in Gradius Galaxies. You can get a 'full power up' for each stage you finish. So if you're on Stage 4 and have used the code once allready in Stage 2, you can use it two times in that stage.
It may also be a case of the shoulder buttons for L and R again, also.....

Yup. Gradius Galaxies is the shoulder buttons again.
but just to be really mean this time, they GIVE you all the powerups if you do the original code, and let you play about 10 seconds before the Vic Viper detonates.
Still kinda funny LOL

There was another game with this code in it... I don't remember if it was NES or SMS, but if you put in the code, it gave a message saying "I AM NOT KONOMI"
anyone remember what game this was?

Code also used in Sexy Parodius expect at the end it's L,R,L,R,A
For a full weapon power up.
There's a variation of it in Silent Hill 3 to get the detective shown in his underwear.

There is a version of the code in Gradius Galaxies that takes away 1 from life stock instead of the blowing up bit.
D, D, U, U, R, L, R, L, A, B if I remember correctly.
(not the triggers BTW!)
This way you can actually get use from the powerups.....
If you want to be extra cheaty go ahead and up the life count in the option menu :)
I will have to try the SexyParo code sometime, never even thought to look for one for some reason...
BTW Tron, you know of any decent shops that sell old and/or import games in MD?
Back on topic, why the heck did Konami remove the code from the US release of HardCorps (not to mention the lifebar :( ) The world will never know....
Do kids these days not know what the code is? I never thought about it...
It's like a piece of me just died.... Or not, but still, how pathetic!

Yeah, independent video game shops in MD seem to range from slightly sleazy to countdown to being raided for XBOX modding sleazy.
Haven't found a local shop with import games yet that doesn't have loads of boot anime and anime soundtracks. That kind of makes me weary of dealing with people. Half the time I end up buying from Japanese sellers on Ebay because I know I will get the game in nice condition. I swear I've had games show up in 2 days with EMS, but that seems physically impossible.
I guess the 'net will be it for me indefinitely. I know of at least one local Ebay seller who has a lot of nice stuff and is trustworthy at least....
I was really bad at games back in the day so I wouldve appreciated it if more games had had the Konami code, Jackal for instance.
It also wouldve been nice if they had done something to make up for the lack of a disk save option in Castlevania now that I think of it. Metroid, Kid Icarus, RiverCityRansom's passwords were rather annoying as well. Same reason.
Though the Famicom was an unparalled victim of piracy because of the lack of cartridge protection coupled with the disk system fiasco, and I must say I am glad we don't have to worry about demagnetization over here,....
Magnetic disks are pathetic.
