Do you use the analog stick or the D pad? I'm wondering if I should buy the GC or PS2 version

I've played both versions and didn't notice much of a difference; although, truth be told, I was never a huge Sonic fan back in the day and might not notice any slight nuances between the two versions that other, bigger fans of the series might notice.

For old school games like this, I'm a d-pad man.

I prefer using the d-pad, as it's the control format originally used.

The problem is that the d-pad on the GC controller is so tiny. If there arent any real differences between the two releases, I would get the PS2 version, just because the d-pad is easier to use.

that Hori snes-style pad is one of my best purchases ever.... perfect for anything that uses the d-pad

I've played the PS2, GC, and the Xbox versions, and I use the d-pad on all of them, just feels the most natural and best to me.

I heard there was something wrong with the screen size/ aspect ratio of Sonic Mega Collection Plus (the newer version). It was in a magazine. Can anyone elaborate?

Yup, I use the d-pad as well. Why wouldn't you? BTW: I don't think the GC pad is so wee that it's unusable...

I have agree, it's a great deal at $25 for a real D-Pad and having the official feel.

I'm not saying it's unusable...just less usable. I have pretty big thumbs. Mostly I dont care for it's location under the left analog stick.

The D-pad its what the games were designed for waaay back in the 90's
I like the PS2 version with the extra genesis games and the Dual Shock does fine.

getthe ps2 version simply because its got more games.

or get the nintendo version so you could laugh at the miserable failure that sega has become and play sonic on your nintendo. then you can laugh at sega fans.

i prefer the latter.

Well, if that's not a post that's just asking for some bashing, then I don't know what is.

I use the analog stick. It feels fine for sonic. However, Mega Man collection is another story.

It's obvious that you shouldn't even bother with the GC version. The PS2 one has more games, a better d-pad to work with, and it lets you save your progress in ANY of the games. The XBox version is probably the same, but I haven't played that one.

I own the GCN version, and I find it easier to play using the d-pad than the analog stick.

But if I hadn't owned it on the Gamecube already when Sonic Mega Collection+ came out, I would have probably bought the PS2 version instead. In fact, if it goes on sale for about $10 somewhere, I might get it and get rid of my GCN copy.
