IGN's been stroking their ego's over having 30,000 games in their database today, which got me to wondering...just how many games are in THIS site's database in comparison? 30k seems like a hell of a lot, but I've gotta think this site's got even more.

Heh.

30,000 they say, eh?

DP dwarfs it... just look in the online database 8-)

i'd say our db has around 32000 actual released games in it, the list shows 359 pages (100 per page), that's 35900, but systems, demos, protos and not to forget rumour mill are in there!

One of the things that makes the DP Database so much more relevant and useful is that it includes hardware. You can't find 50+ CDI machines in IGN's database, can you?

Really the only big frontier left now is peripherals, but that's a big can of worms, even if you want to keep it 1st party only.

In addition, the DP Database includes INFO about these games, which the IGN database does not. DP also has more import/multiregion stuff, and DP has accurate values, wherein IGN seems to have values that are more like original retail.

Totals:
U.S. Game Releases = 12,178 - 12,276
Non-U.S. Game Releases = 16,732 - 16,830
Homebrew Games = 223
Prototypes and One-of-a Kinds = 497
Non-Cartridge Items = 1,684 - 1,782
Rumor Mill = 2,674 - 2,772
CD-ROM Games = 156
Demos, Samplers, & Non-Games = 1,067

So that's between 35,211 and 35,603 entries, or between 30,853 and 31,049 games if you subtract the Non-Cartridge Items and Rumor Mill categories.

There will soon be an extra 300-400 aswell when I submit the updated non-US Master System section (all the Japanese & Brazilian releases) :)

If I work out this deal with KLOV we'll be adding another 3800 arcade games as well.

IGN sucks. Most of their games don't have any cool info like DP does.

KLOV hasn't been updated in years. We need a site like KLOV, but one that's updated regularly.

Thou shalt not rag on the KLOV. Thou cans't expect it to be updated as much as a site about console games. There beith more console games.

Can I pretend to have discovered an obscure 1980s console that had 1,000 games released for it? It would add to our numbers, and we'd probably have fun seeing how many other sites copy the info.
