Does anyone know if a Japanese top-loader NES will play US games without an adapter? If an adapter is needed, how much do they usually run and are they hard to find....I was thinking of picking up a Japanese top-loader because I heard they output AV instead of typical RF like the usual US models.....thanks in advance. :)

Japanese Famicom carts are different in shape and size (one or either). I wouldn't buy one for that reason. Of course, you could always get a cheap adapter.
Get a disk system if anything!

well i have a chance to pick up a NEW Famicom toploader for like 90 bux, wondering if that's a good deal seeing as how US ones go for that much used, and they output crappy RF.....
All Famicoms were top-loaders... ;)

The Famicom or it's various clones has 60 pins [two rows of 30] while the US counterpart has 72 [two rows of 36].
Adaptors to go either way [fam-nes or nes-fam] are readily available on ebay for about $10-$20.
Another thing you have to watch is the power supply. make sure it's rated for US use.
I picked up a US NES Toploader in good condition at an indoor flea market last summer for $5.
