As of yesterday EB Games is no longer accepting Genesis games or hardware in trades. We will still continue to sell through our inventory.
That makes me sad! The price-restructuring made for some great deals. But now I won't feel bad buying Genesis stuff off of customers lol.
Still taking NES and SNES games though.

Really? I had thought that EB had stopped taking most things pre-Saturn already.

Nope! We take GB, NES, SNES. It's possible that individual stores might not take in certain games, we have some discretion there.

It would only be a matter of time when EB Games would follow GameStop's path as well....
Well let's not bicker and argue over WHO killed Genesis! This is supposed to be a HAPPY occasion! So who wants to make a trip to GameCrazy or GameRush now? :)

Yeah the price restructuring was awesome. I picked up Phantasy Star III complete for $5.99 a while back.

Just like the movie industry; you cannot ignore the power of packaging. Would you buy a DVD from a pawn shop loose?
I swear the heads of these companies don't have a clue about their market..

My local Gamecrazy is awesome...SO much stuff. I'm going up tomorrow, right before I go thrifting and hitting up some TRU's.
I only know of one EBGames location with Genesis stuff, I've totally abandoned EB and Gamestop as sources of anything pre-PSX. That's why there's Gamecrazy, Ebay, and the Salvation Army.

My nearest EB only has PS1 used games, besides the current three consoles, and even that now only takes up one or two small shelves. I didn't even know any EBs still took Genesis.

There are VCS games at one of the local EB's..
When did this "price structuring" take place, anyway? I've noticed a HUGE difference in the price of N64 stuff since around January...

And this is why I like Gamecrazy so much-they carry games for older systems. (Granted, lst time I went, they had shit for NES, but they had a *ton* of Super NES and N64 stuff.)

Here too. I just bought an Atari game at EB today. Maybe Canada has different policies though, because there's always a bin with SNES, NES, VCS, etc games in it.

None of my local EB's have had any NES, SNES or Genesis stuff for some time anyways, so this doesn't really affect me that much. However, it's still sad to see another big chain discontinue taking in some classic stuff.

If I hadn't already cleaned out all the eb games of genesis/snes stuff a few months ago when they were 5.99 plus buy one get one I would be hunting tomorrow. After I get off the meeting from work tomorrow morning I may check out the eb games down the corner as they have a very large selection of stuff, maybe there's something I missed. Guess I'll have to make a detailed box/manual list ;D.

So why the Genesis discrimination, if they still take SNES? That's just stupid.

My guess is that NES and SNES games sell better than Genesis, and that they don't have room to continue stocking all three. Also, the DS and the upcoming release of the PSP likely played a big factor in their decision.
One of GameStop's main reasons that they discontinued taking in NES, SNES, Genesis and Dreamcast was due to the needed shelf space for the DS and PSP.
EB already stopped carrying NES, SNES, and Genesis in their mall stores because of lack of space - they still continue to carry them in strip mall and standalone stores because those stores are generally larger and have more space.
I have a feeling that sometime within the next console generation (if not earlier) EB will probably stop taking in NES and SNES titles as well.
It would be cool if more chains stocked retro stuff, but that's just the way it goes. Stores like to have what makes the most money, and it's always going to be the new stuff, by far.

Well I sure hope that GameCrazy never runs out of room! Guess I'll go there.

I wish we had a Gamecrazy or a Gamerush around here. I know a couple stores around that stock heavier amounts of older stuff but they're usually pretty well picked over. I've never had much luck at thrift stores in the area, either.
As to why Genesis and not SNES, NES; Genesis neither sold as much or was traded in as much as the other two.
THe price restructuring happened before Christmas.... I want to say early November or so. Almost EVERY GAME, with the exception of rarer titles, for NES, Genesis and SNES was priced at $2, $4, or $6. And then some sports titles at $1.
And yes, N64 stuff is overpriced hehe. But there seems to be a fairly large demand for it at the moment. And come to think of it, N64 games were ALWAYS overpriced...

I could care less actually. The few EB's that had carried Genesis games near me would have like 5 or 6 craptacular games and nothing ever good, let alone a complete game. Most of the games look like someone dropped them in a bowl of chili without ever cleaning them off. The chances of me ever finding a Phantasy Star IV, complete, was next to nil.

All the EB's near me stopped selling anything pre N64/PSX a while ago. It still sucks though, I got some good deals from EB.

I always wondered, what does EB and Gamestop base their prices off of when it comes to SNES NES and Genny games? what about PSX? because with psx games they seem to know what games people will want and jack the prices up.

Aw, I'm sad. There's an EB not to far from my apartment that all the regional stores would send their Genny stuff to. Most of it was crap, yes, but every so often you'd find something decent. Knowing there won't ever be anything new there is a bummer. I guess Dreamcast probably won't be too far behind...

The EB's here didnt have much as far as Genesis stuff anyway.
Oh sure i did find "Valis 3" on the EB near the college...but i had to dig through alot of crap and most of it was overpriced.
The EB in the mall is worthless, I only go in there to see if they have any leftover PSX games that would be worth my time...most of the time its not.

So why the Genesis discrimination, if they still take SNES? That's just stupid.
I can answer this one from a consumer standpoint:
Older sports games don't sell for crap, and that's basically all anyone ever traded in on the Genesis side: sports games and sonic whatever. There's only so many copies of Madden 94 a company can take before they realize it's time to stop.
In the EBs around here that had Genesis stuff, most of the time it was just sports games and MAYBE a complete cool game.
Also, we get a LOT more people asking for SNES and NES stuff than Genesis.
Concerning Game Crazy, they can kiss my ass for all I care. All my local ones threw out all of their PSX cases, and tossed every last game in a paper sleeve. They were a HUGE source of research material for variant hunting, and now *poof*, all gone.
Time moves on, buy up everything you can.

That's pretty much how supply and demand works :P If you own a lot of copies of a game, you sell it for cheap because you need to get rid of them. If you own very few, you sell it for expensive because it's the only one you can make money on. If nobody wants a game, you sell it for cheap because you want to entice more buyers. If everybody wants a game, you sell it expensive because you don't have a problem selling the copies you have.
So it's the same for 8 and 16 bit games, just that they gave up on trying to be really precise and categorized everything (with a few rare exceptions) into 3 categories.

Yeah, I about cried when I saw an Game Crazy employee toss about a 3 ft. high stack of saturn cases. They also took every PSX game, tossed the cases only to put them in a plain non slim jewel case. O_O

Good I say. More buisness for the Indie shops. They are were its at. EB and the like don't care about games only profit margins. How many cases and manuals must die for everyone rise up and stop thier brutal takeover!!
Fortunately I completed my Genesis collection over a year ago :P
Don't rub it in... :hmm:

I knew an indie shop that took back used games and reshrunk them as new..right in front of me...and I knwo another one that is so over priced it's basically killing him, and he carried everything from intv to neo geo to import PS2...and the third one out in freaking nowhereville Illinois that had the LARGEST selection of EVERYTHING I have ever seen, and I refuse to shop there because the kid behind the counter is a complete fucking dick, and they price ebay sniper level.
Every store has an issue, corporate or indie.
