According to Bungie's weekly update, they are currently testing their solutions to the various glitches and cheats that have reared their heads in Halo 2's multiplayer. They've mentioned the following are already fixed or in the process:
Sword Flying (in multiplayer, anyway-single player is keeping it in)
Dummying(where an Elite's body stays in a warthog while the "eyes" are seperated)
not being able to pick up guns at times
"bouncy teleporters" on beaver creek
Grabbing flags through walls
Among other things, they're also working to make standbying less effective. They're hoping to get all these out in about a month, though that timetable is subject to change.

The new matchmaking playlists are expected to come out with the update (assuming the update comes in the month assumed). And as for the new maps, they said a couple weeks ago they should be out before the update, so shouldn't be too long now....at least I hope not.

I don't care about that. All I want is a damn Legendary Co-Op where both people don't get reset if one dies, like how it is on every other difficulty.

Sword Flying (in multiplayer, anyway-single player is keeping it in)

Why fix this? The usefulness isn't all that great and folks that can do it well enough to kill lots of people with it are extremely rare.

not being able to pick up guns at times

Isn't the reason you can't pick up a gun most of the time because it has no ammo, not because of a glitch? Like when I leave the right front entrance to pick up the pistol in Beaver Creek. When the pistol's still laying there and I can't pick it up, that's mostly because the ammo for it has been picked up by a pistol-packing teammate or foe.

Grabbing flags through walls

Good. Maybe now I won't have to sink to using this move in retaliation.

Among other things, they're also working to make standbying less effective.

Praise Allah, Praise Buddha, Praise Krishna, praise every god in the book.

Can't wait, expecially for the new maps.

I've experienced all of the other cheats. What is "standbying"?

"Standybying" (named for the Standby button on modems used to cheat) is when someone holds their standby button on their modem. While they do this, pretty much everybody else has a blue screen while the person can roam about and do as they please. People do this most frequently in objective based games like Assault and CTF. Fortunately, it's VERY easy for Bungie to spot the cheaters (how obvious is it when someone has been the one to score/plant EVERY game they've been in?). Good luck with your streak, you're bound to run into these bitches at some point.

Why on earth would they correct sword cancelling? It's rarely ever used in an actual game. Sword cancelling is basically a glitching method to get above or below each level.

Grabbing flags through the wall isn't cheating imo since both sides can readily use this strategy. Example: In coag CTF most teams aren't stupid enough to let the bottom be totally unguarded. If you see a warthog coming you basically assume that he's going to go under the base to grab the flag through the floor.

Dummying and Standbying should have been fixed a while ago. That shit pisses me off to no end. Once both of these are fixed you're going to see ranks drop like crazy.

And I think the Doc is right. When you can't pick up a gun that means someone already used up the ammo for it, as in someone walked over the gun and took the ammo, heh.

I've personally experienced the gun glitch in Beaver Creek. There's a pistol on the ground, but I can't pick it up. If it was really empty from ammo, the "hold x to pick up" wouldn't pop up, but it does. That's what I think they're talking about.

As for Sword Cancelling, I've personally been on the end of attacks from it. it's not so helpful in a slayer match, but consider the following: You're running with the flag in, say, Zanzibar, back to the beach. A guy at the base with the sword and say, a battle rifle, or the rocket, doens't really matter, sword lunges at you with the glitch. You die, he's right there at the flag and can pretty much hold it there until his backup arrives. You could also do this in Midship, going across the entire map into the enemy base, just because some fool walked in front of the window. It may be fun, but it has the potential of abuse, and I think that's what they want to remove. Sides-it'll make Halo 2 trickers actually work for their tricks again ;p

As for maps, they haven't said how many yet, just droppings hints on major bits and pieces of them-apparently one has a giant tree, one has a trench, another has just the word "timetable" associated with it, and of course i know hang em high and wizard's remakes were both almost complete by the time H2 shipped, so I expect they'll be in there. I'm guessing at least 3, but who knows-they won't confirm a damn thing until they're ready to release them, so they won't get burned if they don't live up to expectations (like the whole ATV thing).
