Has anyone ever played this game? it is so cool! it looks almost cell shaded. its a 3-d shooter where you can walk around as a mech or fly as a fighting craft. too brad the draw-in distance is awful and stuff pops up right in front of you but its cool nevertheless.

Haven't heard of it. Sounds interesting. I'm not so into the 3d thing, but when it's done well (Panzer Dragoon 2, fer instance) I can dig it.
For some reason I read the name as "Bulk Stash". *shakes head* Sounds like you will have to navigate your way through hippies and cops collecting roach clips and Twinkie power ups.
I think I need some sleep. :)

its done VERY well for 3-d. very good control with the shoulder buttons controling left/right movement and the direction bad doing forward and straffing. it takes a few, but once you get it you wonder why all 3-d games dont follow the scheme. i like it alot, except for the pop-ip and draw-in.

Interesting that you've mentioned Bulk Slash now... just a few days ago I posted a review of it on the OPCFG, along with a review of Assault Suits Leynos 2. Check it out here: http://www.geocities.com/opcfg3/bslashreview.html
Sorry about the quality of the pictures... those were the only ones I could find, and I don't have the ability to hook my Saturn up to a PC.

I have the game and played it briefly a couple years ago. I don't think I knew what I was supposed to do or how to fend off enemies so I never played it. Tips?

Opps... and I was here thinking there was a bulk sale with prices slashed on Sega Saturn games. LOL

zaxxon - do you just need basic gameplay tips or something a little more advanced? I've gotten to the end of the game, so I can be of some help.

I guess basic instructions of the controls and what I'm supposed to do to complete the first level or two, just to get me started.

Okay, let's see... I don't recall which buttons do what offhand - it's been a while since I played it - but luckily I found a tutorial on it.
"Your mech switches from land to air mode at the simple press of a button (which happens to be 'A').
While running on land, you can fire your regular gun or special weapon (you can pick up a fire weapon, for example. you do either by pressing B), swing your sword (press B when up close), toss a grenade (press B when your power meter is full), and run & jump like hell with more accuracy. While in the air, you can fire your regular shot (B again), missiles (you get multiple missiles as the charge meter charges up. press B to fire, okay?). You can also adjust the speed of your flying mech by pressing C, which is a nice feature, allowing you to make sharper turns at slower speeds.
One of the interesting features of the game is that is truly in 3-D. Pressing left or right on the D-pad will only result in your mech moving left or right. Press the shoulder buttons, however, will turn the camera in that respective direction.
You have a little map in the upper-right corner of the screen to guide you to the targets of the stages, although by default it just displays you and immediate heat signatures. Press X for it to briefly display the targets and - if there's only one or the boss around - turn to it quickly. Rather handy for when you go up against one of the game's bosses.
The primary goals for the majority of the game's levels are pretty simple: destroy all of the targets, boss comes down to wreck havoc, you kick their butt (eventually), game progresses. However, some of the other levels present different goals to you. I'm not going to give anything away, but there's just enough variety to keep things from getting boring."
You may want to read the review I wrote for a little more info (link's up above). Once you get into it, the controls become pretty intuitive. You should have no problem blasting through the first few levels, but it does get trickier later on. Keep an eye out for the M.I.S.S. units as well... those navigators come in handy.

what a great bunch of reviews! i love to see info on obscure japanese stuff. i like that section on classic gaming that deals with japanese games but it doesnt go into enough detail like your site does. great work! i am trying to design my own shooter site, but im not very smart so its taking me a long time.

Sir, my bulk stash remains on earth until I build up enough minions to ship. I send them back to the red planet, not Saturn, Sir.

Thanks. BTW does anyone here know how to finish the last level of Stellar Assault SS (import Saturn) and if there's a way to save your game?

Dire 51, I just looked at your page and was reading about Metal Slug for PSX. Do you know how to play the minigames, "Another Story"?

Atari7800 - thanks! :)
zaxxon - no problem. As far as the "Another Story" game, I have an idea of how to play it, but not much of one - I always get killed within a couple of minutes of starting it. I really wish I could read Japanese...
