Simple question: Of the "Current Gen" games you have started playing, what percent do you think you have actually finished? By "Current Gen" I mean: Gamecube, PS2, and XBOX.

There will be a series of these questions. If you could answer all that you possibly can, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

i end up picking cheap titles i think will be interesting, but just never seem to get through them. any title i pick up at $50 is something i know i'll play through, but the budget titles sucker me in, and usually fail to keep my attention.

although, i did pay $50 for metroid prime 2, and played that for about 45 minutes.... i really should get back on that one.

So far all the current gen games I have started I've finished, so right now I'm at 100%

Not many, maybe only 5%. It's easier to get into the Classic games more, so I never find time to complete any Current Gen games.

With the exception of a few, I've finished al of them. Now if we were talking all the games I own, that number would be a hell of alot lower.

Out of the nine PS2 games that I have, I have only finished one, Katamari Damacy.

So many games...so little time :(
Seriously, I've been collecting PS2 games for a while now and out of the 230+ games for the system alone, I've completed a pitiful 6 games! Time to stop spending and time to start playing.

I always buy games with the intention of finishing them, but most of them I never get around to playing. There are just too many games and not ebough hours in the day. I need to not have a job but still get paid. I just don't have enough time to play as much as I want to. I've been playing RE:4 for like 3 weeks and still haven't beaten it. Maybe in another 2 weeks I'll be through it. So by that logic I should be buying less than a game a month, but I bought about 10 GC games last month, not to mention all of the games I bought for my older systems.

Hopefully bitrot is bullshit. If so, then I know what I'll be doing when I retire in 40 years.

75 - 90

I still have those ones I'll never play again: Deus Ex Invisible War, Star Wars KOTOR, and Morrowind... but other than that yeah, about 75% of my current gen games have at least beaten the final boss, if not 100% (SMS or F-Zero GX for example)

There are a large number of games where I just got bored and stopped. I have only finished the GTA III games by cheating though I got pretty far.

Most of the time if I get stuck in a game for more then 4 hours I break out a code and at that second I don't count the game.

Then I have the games I won't cheat at (Super Monkey Ball 2 and F-Zero comes to mind) where I get stuck and move on.

Then there is the dreaded "to many good games to play" syndrome. Like I was all about Rachet and Clank 2 there for a day then BAM! World of Warcraft came out.

Do PC games count? (Doom 3, HL2)

Aside from those two, I have played and NOT finished 10 PS2/Xbox/GC games of the 108 total games I own across all 3 systems. I have played and finished 31 of my next gen games.

So out of the 41 I've played, I've completed just over 75%

i own about 40 PS2 games and ive beaten about 30 of them. so im at a decent 75% but with old school im a lot better.

Honestly, with the amount of discounted games I've bought in the last few years, I find it amazing if I finish any of them. I have completed maybe 1 or 2, period. I just don't have the time to play games that take hours and hours to complete. What I'd give to be a teen again... :hmm:

i still have tons of unbeaten games... i have only beaten:

Halo(co-op)
Halo 2(co-op)
Jet Set Radio Future
Sonic Adventure
LOTR: ROtK(co-op) i think..

i think GBA, DS, and Dreamcast should be included in "current gen". Maybe n-gage too..

Well, I beat Baten Kaitos and Pikmin on GameCube, and I beat Choaniki, Katamari Damacy, Star Ocean 3, and Radiata Stories on PS2. Those are pretty much the only current-gen games I really "started", so I guess I'd be at 100%. I own some other titles, but I never seriously started playing them. Once I sit down with the intent to beat a game, I rarely every quit, but it's getting to that point in the first place that's hard. Most games I just try out a little and then they get put away until the mythical day in which I will have both the time and the desire to play through them from beginning to end. :P

I honestly haven't felt like finishing a lot of my current gen titles. I've got about 40 or so games combined for my NGC, PS2 and XBox, and I've played them all, but I haven't bothered to finish most of them. I think the only one I HAVE gone all of the way through was Katamari Damacy. So... that's a crappy percentage, ain't it?

I voted in the 10% to 25% range even though I'm probably not quite there with Xbox / GameCube games... but am easily if you include Dreamcast, which I would consider basically current gen still.

Also, my numbers would be skewed in three other ways:

Recently, I have purchased a bunch of games cheap, tried them and then sold them if I didn't like them right away. (Thanks to EB's sweeeeeet deal :D). I am not including those games.

Secondly, of the games that I own that I intend to beat, the number would be higher. I don't have as much time as I'd like to play through games, but the games that I have right now I kept because I intend to beat them.

Finally, there are certain games that I don't think that I would classify as ever officially "beating." For instance, I have MLB 2K5 which I picked up recently. I'm playing Franchise mode right now. Even if I played an entire season, it isn't like the game is over... just that season. How should you count those or other games without a true end?

I have a few questions for you, because I'm imagining some gray areas here. Just want some clarification.

1. I have games that I bought (for cheap!) but have never played, aside from putting them in the system to make sure that they boot up. Would you consider that "starting" the game for the purposes of your poll?

2. If the answer to 1. is "no", then what about games that I've played for, say, less than an hour, just to see what they're like, knowing full well that I wouldn't get around to seriously playing them until later?

3. How much Ikaruga do you have to play to get to "completed" for the purposes of your poll? I mean, some games that don't have as neat of an endpoint as others. When have you "completed" Atari 2600 Space Invaders?

Just about any game I start, I play until I beat it. Ikaruga and Contra for PS2 are a couple exceptions.

That's part of the beauty of the poll. I've left the requirements for "completion" fairly open because I believe that the definition of "complete" is different for every gamer. For example, I would never, ever, ever play a game like GTA with the intention of getting 100% completion. So, to me, just finishing the story mode makes it a complete game to me. On the other hand, many gamers get a kick out of getting that 100%. So, since the definition was left open, I think each type of gamer has probably answered this question based on their own feeling of what "complete" means to them. That's the way I would hope everyone would answer.

I really try to buy games that have excellent replay value....or games that "could" never really "end" unless you want them to.

I do fairly well with my racers and crawlers......but to be quite honest, I find that many of today's games have a huge dead spot near the middle that kills my desire/motivation to finish them. I've found that so many of today's games are a waste of money due to the fact that they AREN'T finished.

I've made a concious decision to stick mainly to the racing genre. Value-wise, I'm better off for it.

bargora touched on this - I have to put 10% (and it's probably closer to 1%) because I buy most of my games for collecting purposes. I'd go so far as to say that 25% of my collection is still sealed and 75% of it is unplayed by me.

If I look at the poll in black and white, I'm in that <10% range.

However, if you're asking what games do I buy that I intend to play, with the hopes of finishing it once started, I'm closer to 30%.

Which is it?

YoshiM
03-08-2005, 08:54 AM
I think out of the games I owned and rented combined I'm probably at 25%. Some games (not many) will hook me enough that I will play the game like a man possessed (ask my wife about Prince of Persia: Sands of Time) until I beat it. Most of the time I'll get to a point where I can't go any further and I'll set it down for a few months. A new phenomenon is playing a game, setting it down for a while, playing a newer similar game then going back to that original game and being let down. APEX is a great example: after playing Burnout 3 APEX just feels....so......slow.

I have 175 X-Box Games (beaten maybe 10)
PS2 Have 125 Games (beaten maybe 15)
Gamecube Have 25 Games (beaten 1)

Out of those 325 current gen games, I have 40 that are still in the wrapper, and I have turned on the rest of them to make sure that they work, now, I would say that I have probably 175 of those games that I actually want to play all the way through.

TOO MANY GAMES TOO LITTLE TIME

Plus EQ2, and WOW, and SWG have me sucked in right now ad FFXI forgot about that one as well.

I don't even want to think of how many PC games I have that I haven't beaten probably close to 400.

PS2 completed (3 of 18):

Aqua Aqua: Wetrix 2
Burnout 2: Point of Impact
Crazy Taxi

Xbox completed (2 of 10):
RalliSport Challenge
Halo

GCN completed (4/8):
Wave Race: Blue Storm
Burnout
Soul Calibur II
Smuggler's Run: Warzones

Total: 9 of 36 = 25%

More than I thought. :P

These always REALLY SHOCK me. I can't see the point behind buying a game, spending money and time on it, then not beating it.

I would say out of the past 100 games I've played, I haven't beaten 5-6 of them (and not from lack of trying)

I've beaten 13 out of 32 Current gen PS2 and Cube games that I've started for 41%. I plan to up this number to 75% ASAP, but I have Tron 2.0 for Xbox coming in the mail and no Xbox, so who knows! ;)

Of the 35 current-gen games that I've "started", I've "finished" six. For a rate of about 17%, which is actually higher than I would have guessed.

Of course, I've only "started" 35 of the 98 current-gen games that I own. That's including 33 Dreamcast games, of which I've started 9 and finished 2. Leaving Dreamcast out doesn't really affect my started/finished number, but it sure does cut down on the owned number.

I hope that this helps you in your statistical analysis.

I've finished Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, Skies of Arcadia, Xenosaga, Zone of the Enders, and Final Fntasy X. Most games just can't keep my attention I'll start and be obsessed for a few days, than I'll start a new game and the old one will get pushed aside.

So true, so true. Made me laugh.

I have a terrible addiction to ebgames.com. So many good cheap games to get (even if they're not complete, you can't beat $3 or under).

I've completed lots of GC games, but only one on PS2 (Vice City). But I still think my total % is between 25 and 50. Ok its probably lower, just trying to make myself feel better.

Seriously, I've been collecting PS2 games for a while now and out of the 230+ games for the system alone, I've completed a pitiful 6 games! Time to stop spending and time to start playing.

I have the same problem! I just keep collecting, cuz I'll find games I want or interesting, good, or just quirky, obscure or random games for cheap and I'll pick them up, but I don't have a lot of time to play them. Right now I'm working on all the old Zeldas that I still haven't beaten. I finally beat Oracle of Ages, since I hadn't played it in 2-3 years and now I'm working through Seasons. Still gotta be Link to the Past and Zelda II, and try to stomach my way through Wind Waker.

Out of the somewhere around 300 games that have definite ends out of my 345 games (which is counting demo discs, Plug n Play TV Games and Game & Watches) I've only beaten 27. But eventually, I'll beat them all. Even if it takes the rest of my life!

Who can actually list all the games they've beaten? Since when I was a child, I wasn't as big a gamer and didn't have a large selection, the games I beat back then are a measly 2, and ever since I started being a gamer back in high school and since I'm super obsessive compulsive, I keep extensive lists. I have a Word document that lists in alphabetical order and separated by system all the games I currently own (cuz I lose track - once I bought Guilty Gear X2 #Reload twice cuz I forgot I bought it!) So when I beat a game, I put an asterix next to the title. So far, here's my measly list of games I've beaten:

NES:
Darkwing Duck
Legend of Zelda
Super Mario Bros
SNES"
None! How lame am I?
N64:
Gauntlet Legends
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Paper Mario
GAMECUBE:
Luigi's Mansion
GENESIS:
Aladdin
Ren and Stimpy: Stimpy's Invention
Sonic 2
SATURN:
None (but I've only had the system a month and I only have 2 games and they're both 2D fighters)
DREAMCAST:
None! Lameness again!
PLAYSTATION:
Crash Bandicoot
Crash 2
Crash 3
Spyro
PS2:
Devil May Cry
Evil Dead: Fistful of Boomstick
Katamari Damacy
Mad Maestro!
Ratchet and Clank
XB
Halo
Prince of Persia
GB
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages
Pokemon Red (although I don't have that version anymore)
Pokemon Ruby
Super Mario Land
DS
Zoo Keeper (yes, it has a definite end, and what a weird backstory to a puzzle game)
GAME GEAR, LYNX and NEOGEOPOCKET COLOR:
None, even lamer

Can anyone loan me some extra spare time so I can beat some more games? LOL
