Well, the Mappy Sing-A-Long Contest has ended and we have the winners. Originally we were going to give out 5 prizes, but there was only 3 entries.

You can view the entries here:

http://www.digitpress.com/media/mappy/

There's one from Cauterize, one from DJ Beat Mongrel (along with his lyrics in a text file), and also Gun Panther.

The original right from the game can be heard here if you want to compare: http://www.digitpress.com/dpsoundz/mp3/mappy_main.mp3

Good job to everyone who entered! My favorite entry was by Gun Panther. I think I had more of a soft spot for him since I play guitar and it sounded like he played the song on guitar with an accompanying drum machine.

Gun Panther wins the grand prize:
- Neo Fami top loading NES clone with Mappy game. This is brand new and will be arriving before the end of March. It's a new model and better than the old one. You can use original NES joysticks on this one, so you're not out of luck if the Neo Fami joysticks break. You can also plug in NES carts directly without the need for an adapter.
- Promo Metroid Prime 2 shirt (brand new in package)
- A 2-year subscription to DP and the guide of your choice!

Cauterize and Beat Mongrel both get:
- Promo Metroid Prime 2 shirt (brand new in package)
- Promo PS2 Mortal Kombat Deception skin
- A 2-year subscription to DP and the guide of your choice!

Everyone also gets a free copy of my friends band's CD if you like rock music, if not pass it along to someone who might like it.

If Joe doesn't have your address then please get it to him and I'll get it from him and get your items out. I have everything ready to go 'cept the Neo Fami which I am awaiting arrival in the mail.

awesome, i wish i coulda sang over my track though. once my cold blows over i'll do it the way i wanted to heheh. it was definitely fun doing it and i'd love to see more music contests come up (it was a challange enough trying to meet my goal of making the original music funky LOL ).

Also congrats to Gun Panther and Cuaterize, you both did a good job :D

Props to everybody who entered/won!

I gotta give it to Gunpanther. I drug out my guitar and worked on an entry for an hour or two but never could get down a couple of those riffs. If only I could go travel time like Bill and Ted, take guitar lessons, and come back to do a better entry!

The Metroid Prime 2 Echoes promo shirt is large. I think I have 5 of them left.. do you want the other 2 also?! Yep.. I just double checked. All larges and I do have 5, so if you want you can have 3 of them. :)

Here's what the back of the shirt looks like, only it's still folded in the plastic bag it came in, the front says "Samus":

Here's a picture of what the PS2 skins look like:

They cost $16.99 new, but I got them as a promo.

@_@

I won? OMG. I WON. :eek 2:

Thank you so much for even choosing my entry, Yuppicide. I am truly honored and humbled.

Seriously, I didn't think I'd have a chance, but after seeing that only 3 entries were submitted, I guess my chances increased just a little bit. :P

Everybody submitted some really good music, from djbeatmongrel's professionally sequenced and catchy rendition of the Mappy song to cauterize's unique blend of samples to come up with a great original song, I feel that we all did a great job.

We all definitely let the creative juices flow and look at the result; We won some really nifty prizes by the ever-so-awesome Yuppicide and Joe Santulli. :)

I thank you very much for the opportunity to participate in such a unique contest.

A few of the prizes will definitely be put to good use;

I plan on donating the Fami-clone console to the Kid's Center where my brother volunteers at (but I'm keeping the Mappy cart as a memento. I really dig Mappy.) :D , and the t-shirt will be donated to my nephew, who recently had knee surgery. (It'll cheer him up quite a bit, especially since he's a big fan of the Metroid game series)

As for the DP subscription and the guide (I'm still not sure which one I'll choose), those will be put to good use. I need to make an inventory list of all my games, so it'll help a lot.

Anyway, thank you once again, Yuppicide and Joe Santulli. It definitely was fun contest to participate in. :D

*applauds Yuppicide, Joe Santulli, djbeatmongrel and cauterize*

Thank you for the compliments djbeatmongrel. Your song was also pretty damned good. I found myself listening to it quite a few times, just like cauterize's. I'm also a fan of dance/techno/industrial/funk/eurobeat types of music (I used to really listen to techno music back in the early 90's).

I got an idea; Why don't you just re-submit your track to Yuppicide anyway? I'm actually looking forward to hearing your vocal track.

Would you be willing to collaborate? I'd be willing to lay down the guitar riffs if you're willing to sequence the rest of it. I'm curious to see just how excellent you can make my crappy guitar playing sound.

Let me know. :)

Here are the lyrics to "Mappy Go!" if you were all curious as to what the hell I was 'singing' (if you can call it that) in the song:

- MAPPY GO! -

Lyrics, guitars and MIDI drum sequence by GunPanther

He's on his way

To the museum today

Little does he know

That the cats came out to play

Unlocking doors

Slamming those cats in the face

He's on an adventure

To keep those treasures safe

Oh, man, can he go.... Whoa... Look at Mappy Go! Go! Go!

Oh, man, can he run! Run Mappy, Run! Run! Run!

Oh, man, there he goes. It's Mappy! Mappy Go!

Oh, man, there they go.... Cats Go! Cats Go!

i'm defintely resubmitting my entry with lyrics when i get a chance (i think my cold is slowly blowing over). About collaborating it would be cool. I normally try to work with someone in person so theres equal input through out the whole project and it also makes it easier when it comes to recording but we can try the online route. My AIM sn is Djbeatmongrel, just send me a message when you can.

again, good job to both gunpanther and cauterize

I actually listened to all 3 entries about 20 or 25 times each.

I can see why. That Mappy 'theme song' sure is catchy, isn't it?
