Tonight they are having a special based on the Grand Theft Auto Series, saying that the game caused a man to kill a cop. What do you guys think about this?

I suppose we should wait and see how the report is done before we criticize it.

All I can do right now is shake my head. I can't see anything good coming out of it. :/

This topic has become far more of a dead horse than that of the argument over the war in Iraq. It seems the only people who are out to blame games and movie violence translating into actual violent behavior is the media and the people related to the offender. It couldn't possibly be Johnny! He's such a nice kid, those games made him do it!
Ugh, spare me.

I will never make a connection between playing violent video games and being violent in real life. I play GTA once in a while, and was obsessed with Doom when it came out, and I have never wanted to hurt anyone or go on a killing spree. I personally think that the people who do kill people are probabley messed up to begin with, and they fantasize about killing, so they find games like GTA fun because they can act out what they want to do. They soon become bored with this, and they want to do it in the real world. Then someone close to them who is in denial that their friend/son/whatever is a psycho, says that video games made them do it, which we all know is a bunch of shit.

This reminds me--I guess one of the accusation from the plaintiffs in some suit agains Id or something after Columbine claimed that Doom "brought intense military training into the private sector". So, it's a good thing the Marines use Doom to train, so that when they infiltrate the moon and have to shove a rocket in the brain of a giant goat-skull ornament plastered on the wall while ascending and descending on a moving platform, they'll be prepared.

Heh, looks like I missed it...
I think the whole argument is, in some ways, stupid. I mean, games don't make people go out and do what they play...
But, on the other hand...
There are many kids who don't come away from GTA with nothing. Many kids DO get a lot of bad ideas from it. I mean, games in which you run around killing innocent people at will SHOULD be kept out of the hands of most children.

Ooh, I wonder if they'll get the evil Jack Thompson (http://www.stopkill.com) on camera?
(I'm sure someone out there is waiting to put his voice and likeness in a creative Half-Life mod.)

I saw it. It was decent, it didn't go TOTALLY for the anti gaming people. They never did mention that there are RATINGS for what ages games are for.

The media and politicians will always need scapegoats for poor parenting.
What was it that inspired John Hinkley to shoot President Reagan? The movie Taxi Driver. I don't recall any outcry to ban R-rated films or DeNiro or Scorsese.
Remember when Judas Priest was blamed for that kid who killed himself?
Come on! Get real!

Last time I checked the FCC controlled the content of your broadcast media. WHEN are they going to link games to terrorism.. I wish they would hurry up.

Yeah, that's why it's rated "M".

All I know is I grew up playing Pac-man and now I can't stop biting people.
Not to mention how Mario caused waves of anti-goomba violence.

*THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED*
I was sitting in the back seat of a car with two of my friends in the front. This was about the time when GTA3 was still INCREDIBLY popular. All of us were GTA3 FANATICS. The following conversation took place:
Friend 1 (DRIVER): Hey, dude, look at that old lady....
Friend 2: Should we.... should we hit her?
*long pause*
Friend 1: Nah... not now.
The kids were actually serious, and the experience left me puzzled.
