Welcome to this week's Monday Morning MAME Club Posting. Every Monday, a member of the MAME club will pick a new game for you to play in MAME! All you have to do to participate is install MAME, download the ROM of the week from this message, and then post your thoughts about the game! You can post a full review of the game or simply tell us what you liked/didn't like about the game. Have you played this game before? Have you played it in an actual arcade? Do you like the genre? How did it run on your computer? Did you beat it? If so, how long did it take? What was your high score? How far can you get? Did you have any problems emulating the game? When writing your review, post it right here in the sticky topic and include any thoughts you have about the game. Remember, YOU are the reviewer. Let us know anything and everything you think about the game! Just remember, if you want people to respond during YOUR week, you should play along on OTHER weeks!

The ROM of the week is: Pang (available HERE (http://www.robohara.com/mameclub/pang.zip)!)
KLOV Link for the game: HERE (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=&game_id=8971)

Pang is one of my favorite series!

Very simple game that is an Excellent mix of the Puzzle, "Action", and Strategy genre's. The original isn't as developed as far as variety goes, but it was a great start. Not much to say about the game I guess... But it is a truly Excellent game none-the-less!

On a side note... is Mitchel developing Polarium on the DS? I though Nintendo brought up Mitchel in an interview... I'm probably wrong. But Pang is Extreme to the Max!

In the U.S. we call it Buster Brothers!

I love this game. If something came out like this for the DS, I would totally buy it.

I was watching Welcome to the Dollhouse a couple of weeks ago, and the kids are playing it in the 7-11 scene. It's pretty funny.

Excellent pick!

BTW--I'd never heard of Mitchel before (except in my last name, of course!), but in the U.S. Buster Brothers was published by Capcom, both in the arcade and on the SNES. Can somebody shed light on this for me? This is the first time I've tried the "Pang" rom.

Mitchell developed the Pang series (I probably spelled it wrong... though) I think They developed Puzz Loop 2 on CPSII Board late in its life as well as Puzz Loop on NGPC

From the few minutes I've played so far, this definitely seems like a good recipe for a fun, addictive experience.

Just one question though: I can only shoot up. Is that normal or do I need to tweak my settings to be able to shoot in other directions?

Nope -- it's all about shooting up!

It's been a long time since I played the original (I always seem to stumble across Super Pang). I really enjoy the simplicity of this game -- basically it's a platform version of Asteroids if you think about it with lots of power ups!

WHOA! Sorry fer missing this, Rob! I don't know why I have, because Pang rules! I know it better by its American title, Buster Bros. There was this old restaurant/arcade that served great food and had equally great games... and Buster Bros. was probably the one that took up most of my time there. Good times, good times. I can't explain why this game is addicting. There's just something about breaking down killer bubbles into tinier and tinier pieces until they disappear that I find addicting. After I get that machine gun, I just go nuts. Ah, so many memories with this game. :)

It's not that I don't like this one (I do), but it almost seems pointless unless you can go multi-player. Having a buddy save your *** when you're in trouble just seems to make the game. Oh, and anyone have any theories as to how bubbles can kill you? LOL

Uhhhhhhhhhhhh... either they're made up of poison liquid (or gas), or they float all the way up to your brain and... make it go bad? I dunno, I got nothing. LOL

You never saw this game before? I know you're in Rhode Island, but in good ol' Bellevue Washington, this game was everywhere. You couldn't avoid it. It was at 7-11. It was at arcades. It was at pizza joints. There was even one at RKCNDY in Seattle, the old all ages club that now has a stupid hotel built on it's foundation. Buster Brothers was really popular.

That's strange that you never saw it. I'm not trying to be mean, or anything, I just thought it was funny. :D

I really like this game, but I am very very bad at it. I think I can make it to the 4th level before dying...

Very fun game though

Well I haven't been too active posting comments for the MAME club, but I think nows a good a time as any to start! Pang was a game I remebered playing as a kid in Dream Land, an arcade in Ankara, Turkey. I couldn't remeber the name at all and so for a few years I searched for the name of it. It wasn't until I posted here asking about it that I finnaly learned what it was called. I chose pang because I think it's a simple yet sometimes complex game that everyone should try at least once. If anyone is having troubles a few tips I have is to make sure you don't pick up dynamite unless you know you can handle all the little bubbles and to make sure you use the sides of your rope to pop the bubbles. Let the bubbles come to you.

If you guys enjoyed this one, also check out Super Pang. Same basic game, more levels. Plus you get the voice sample, "supah pan!"
